This is mainly a move of a post from the old forums...

I've made a new wrapper using Wineskin (http://wineskin.doh123.com/) for NWN2 customized up and bug fixed. Its playing really well for me!
This allows you to use the normal Windows version of NWN2 (including expansions, patches, multiplayer, custom content, and everything...) on Mac OS X, without Windows.
DOWNLOAD LINK (hosted on Mediafire.com)
Download for NWN1 version there too...
grab NWN2 WinToOSX wrapper of the latest version, I fix bugs as people find them.

This is not endorsed, sponsored, or supported in any way by Atari, Obsidian, BioWare, EA, Aspyr, or any other related company.  It is offered as-is only, though I'll help if I can.  This is only a wrapper, no game files are included... you must supply your own Windows NWN2 game!

It runs a lot better than previous versions. I recommend for best performance though to use Snow Leopard... everyone should upgrade, it runs great... but it will always run lower performance than it would natively on Windows, but not quite as bad as compared to the Mac 'native' version.

Please read the Directions that are included to know how to use the wrapper. Once you have it set up, it runs like a normal Mac app. Its by default in Fullscreen mode, but you can change it to a windowed mode.. but don't use in game settings, always leave them as fullscreen and use WineskinSettings.app Screen Options.

Current Annoyances

Wine caching issues. When you run the wrapper the first time, Wine will do some caching, and it may take 30-45 seconds for the game to start. Runs after that will be much faster... unless you haven't run the game in a few days, it will need to cache again.
Some ATI cards will still not work.. (ATI X1600 and X1900 mainly). I cannot fix this, as its due to deficiencies in the drivers in OSX for these cards. Some people have reported that newer video drivers on 10.6 do work right though.
The Server and Toolset are currently still not working... I haven't really bothered to mess with them at all... cuz they are major pains in the rear.
Old fixed bugs
0x0 screen resolution in nwn2.ini occasionally would cause it to crash at start up. This no longer happens, Wineskin double checks the nwn2.ini on launch and sets it to the right resolution (what you have set in Wineskin Screen Options).
Patching pain...Inside the wrapper along with WineskinSettings.app is an app called NWN2Updater.app. This will run the normal nwupdate.exe utility to patch your game to the latest version. (read the directions)

Fixed bug from v2 that caused fullscreen and windowing changes in WineskinSettings.app -> Screen Options to not work right.

Installation might still not work right with some versions or on some Macs, so if it doesn't work for you... you can still install on Windows and copy the installed version over into the wrapper to use it. (directions are included)

Need some help...

I got a new machine iMac core i5 (snow lepoard) with ATI 5750.
I don't have Win anynore I would need to re-install the whole thing.I had the old Wrapper running on my previous Intel Mac with Leopard.Right now this is the only one working BUT I had to move it back to the external hard disk. Else I would get tons of Applescript errors and nothing else.I have installed the latest wrapper on the new mac and copied the nwn folder from old wrapper to new wrapper (I know that may sound creative). The thing does launch fine all the way to "Load Game", "New Game"... but beyond that I get empty stuff (like invisible fonts) and if I try new game or new character it tells me the module may be corrupted.
Any idea anyone?

I'm looking into getting the Nwn2 Toolset running under wine. Have you explored this doh123?

Thanks for this, works great! Even got Mysteries of Westgate working on this.

No more switching to Windows to get my NWN2 fix.

I recently installed Wineskin and the associated files via the instructions and this Original Post. Works great, and much faster than the Mac version with Mob and SoZ files installed from extracted Windows files.

Pretty darn cool! Thanks.

Or, is there a way to simply update the wrapped application v4 to the latest engine.

I have the Full Screen/lowered text problem, as well as a few other graphics errors when playing a PW with the wineskin port....and I'm hoping to get them fixed with the latest engine. Thanks.

I updated this to a version 5 you'll see in the downloads...
Its using an engine built off Wine 1.3.19 and Wineskin 2.4.
There should be no more problems with mutlimonitors, or desktop flashing or anything.

If you want to multitask, use Cmd+Opt+A to toggle in and out of fullscreen mode.

Its a normal 2.4 wrapper so you can modify it however you want, but 1.3.19 is currently the newest version that is stable. Later versions either cause Mouse or sound problems, and the newest 1.3.27 cannot run it at all, it crashes loading areas.

I have never tried the Steam version.
You can try... run Wineskin.app and go to Advanced -> Tools tab, and run Winetricks and select Steam from its list to get Steam properly installed inside the wrapper.  Make sure you turn off Steam community notifications and anything that causes pop ups or notifications because they can cause games to crash while playing.  Many games will workthis way fine, but I do not have NWN2 steam to test out.

Hi doh123. First thanks for this excellent effort!! I never dreamed I could play NW2 on my mac... well I never dreamed I could almost play NW2 on my mac :-P

When I click "play" the game goes to full screen then goes all white.

The game patched OK to 1.66 and I am using the latest V5 wrapper.

I am running a Mac Pro/ Quad Core / with 16 GB Ram and an ATI4780.

Any suggestions would be appreciated and thanks again for all your hard work!

All forgive me I am truly an idiot!! I just realized right this moment at almost 2:00 AM that my "Diamond Edition" is NW1 NOT NW2. Oh how low i feel.

Sorry for wasting board space.

This is an older thread, but I'll follow up on it anyway in case others are trying to do this. I was able to get NWN working using a Wineskin and detailed the steps I followed in my blog. I did install it on a Windows partition first and copied it over. You can probably install directly from the Diamond disc using the Wineskin Installs Windows Software option.

I'm working on a NWN2 wrapper as well. At this point I can play the game with it (OC+MotB+SoZ) but what I am really hoping to do is get the toolset working as well.

Regards

I've been having some video problems running the Wineskin. It seems to work great until the introduction video begins. Once the Atari logo is supposed to pop-up, the video blanks out but I can hear everything loading just fine and dandy right up to the menu screen. However, my window is blank. Sounds like its all running good, just no pictures.

Everything was installed and updated according to directions. Here is my Mac's hardware:

Processor 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

Memory 4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Graphics ATI Radeon HD 2400 XT 128 MB

Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b)

Is there any configuration tweeks I might have to do? Also, I had to go into some of the preferences to get my keyboard working when I was installing the game, but didn't have any snags after that. Now, I can't remember where to go modify the preferences.

If there is a thread for this on the Wineskin page, I'd appreciate a link! I think this is a great idea as I've used Parallels in the past to try and run games but it takes so many resources that the video card become useless (after all, I've only got a 128MB ATI...).

So, if anyone else ran into this problem, its actually a simple fix.  I found it thorugh trial and error (and by the above quoted post, you can bet it was more ERROR than anything else until I got it right).

Follow the directions on the .pdf and pay attention to the highlighted part that tells you:
This is where you will find “Wineskin.app” you can use for
Install, Settings and Configuration. here are the settings for my machine that worked to get SOZ running right away (and incidently, its how I got my keyboard to work for the Setup process, so if you are entering your CD-Key and nothing happens, play with these settings at that time as well!).

Under the "Screen Options" Dialog, I got the game to run windowed by the following options...
"Override Settings" Rootless (windowed) checked
"Virtual Desketop at: 800x600"

Installer Options  I have "Force Normal Windows" checked

"Override Wine control of Screen Settings"  Override sleected

Other Options I have "Decorate Windows" and "Auto Detect GPU Info for Direct3D" both checked.

Works like a charm now!  So, if you have video trouble, or keyboard issues, play around with those settings and I'm sure you'll get it squared away soon (hopefully faster than I did!).

I've posted instructions for creating a NWN2 wrapper from scratch and installing the OC, MotB, and SoZ and patching them on this blog post. Mine is a little different than doh123's and Paul the Tall's. I regret that I still haven't been able to get the toolset working though.

Hi, Kaldor--just curious if you'd made any progress in getting the Toolset to run in a NWN2 wrapper using Wineskin.

Fnast,

I haven't worked on it in a while. I've been distracted, but I am beginning to miss NWN2 so I may try again with the latest versions of Wineskin and see if anything has changed.

Hey, got the game running on my mac using this-but when i enter the game (a buddys nordock server) my head is always missing. If i try to equip or unequip a helm it crashes.  Character creation shows most of the heads including some that don't show ig, but ig never shows any of them.  Also, regardless of messing with helms it crashes occasionally anyway.  I'm not using any add ons, only running platinum edition 1.69.  Have any of you had this problem and/or know what the solution would be?  I really wanna get to playing again but, alas, I have a mac :/

Mac OS X 10.6.8

processor  2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo

memory  4 gb 1067 ddr3

gpu  NVIDIA GeForce 320M

Please help I need to get back to my player group! xD

I posted instructions on my blog for running NWN1 using Wineskin here. I haven't had the problems you are reporting although my testing did not include trying to run on someone else's server.

hmm, some of that's a little over my head honestly but give me some time and i may be able to make some sense of it xD i think i'll try reinstalling first. it seems to me that there may have been some files that didn't get installed correctly. if there were a list of all head textures somewhere i could check first so i may try and find that, although on examining my inventory i think there are other textures missing as well since there are certain items that just aren't showing up.

one thing i will mention is i've noticed that wineskin has been crashing regardless of messing with helms, whether im ig or on the main menu. has anyone had that problem?
