The Paragon/Renegade interrupts were one of my favorite additions to ME2, and with the shift to a more cinematic style in DA2, I was wondering if we might see them in that game as well. I know there's no good/evil morality system in the DA games, but since the DA2 dialogue wheel will include icons to describe the intent of the forthcoming dialogue, maybe they could use those to indicate what sort of interrupt we might be able to perform, should we want to.

The *shudder* IGN article that came out mentioned something about sending NPC's to "dispatch" some enemies during a conversation, so I assume there is something similar in DA2 to ME2's interrupts.  Though the interrupts were rather enjoyable in ME2 for me, my shepard had no respect for mercenaries that didn't work for me.
(Zaeed's making salary now anyways )

Oh, I hope not. not unless they;re implemented very differently from ME2. Having a time limit to respond is an absolute non-starter for me, and ME2's interrupts have exactly that.

Given how vague they are (has anyone been able to predict the contents of a single Paragon interrupt?) it's impossible to make a quick decision about whether I want to trigger one. And since Hawke is supposed to be less of a pre-fabricated character than Shepard is, we're going to have to have greater control over his personality. And that means he doesn't get to do things we're not expecting.

Yes. The one on Jacob's loyalty mission where Shepard pushes the woman out of the way of gunfire was easy to predict.

You're not meant to think, you're meant to react. I loved the interupts in ME2 but I don't reckon they'ed work in DA:O where roleplaying is emphasised more than in ME2. You really need to stop and think what your character would do.

Hmm... prediction issues... that is a good point. A lot of the paragon interrupts in ME2 I had a hard time predicting what would actually happen... Like Volus tipping. Did not see that one coming. The renegade ones were kinda obvious though.

I though interrupts were pretty predictable. You got an NPC pointing a gun at someone and a Paragon icon flashes, it's pretty obvious IMO that the interrupt will stop them from shooting the person. A Renegade interrupt 9 in 10 times resulted in Shep killing someone in a creative fashion. I liked them quite a bit and hope to see them in DA2 as well.

And that's the problem.

Shepard can react, because he's standing there in the game world and he knows what he's going to do.

But I don't know what he's going to do, so how can I trigger an interrupt without risking him doing something out of character?  In ME2 he can't, really, because his character is pre-defined.  But DA2 isn't like that.

I thought they wer probably the best part of ME2, actually. They were the reason why my Shepard went paragade instead of full on paragon (... all the way, across the sky! What does this mean!?); the renegade interrupts were just too fun/ny to pass up. :)

So, yeah. You wouldn't find me complaining if they announce something similar.

Though I'm not sure how the interrupts would work in DA2 since the ones in ME2 relied on what was essentially a light side/dark side point system. Maybe we'll have different flavors of interrupts? Like friendly, humorous, aggressive, impatient... Man, that would be neat.

:lol::lol::lol:

Or threatening someone...

In this case, however, I don't think I'd like to see interrupts--and I doubt they'll be there. The Paragon/Renegade interrupts rely on the morality meter, which DA lacks.

I'd like it if you knew for sure what you were going to do. Most of the time interrupts were simply role-playing a Renegade/Paragon character, you did it because of what your character was rather than doing it because that's what you wanted your character to do (if that makes sense).

It's sort of the issue I have with Mass Effect as a whole. You're pretty much choosing between two/three versions of Shepard as opposed to role playing your own distinct character.

Which is why I said they wouldn't work in DAII

I hope there won't be interrupts in DA2.

While it may have been nice w/ the overall pace of the action game that is ME2 (or the dialogue w/ time limit on Alpha Protocol), I don't think I'd like it in DA2.

Hooray! Thank you for stating my biggest issue with the series in a way that's way more simple and articulate than I could have ever said.

We're pretty much choosing between a few preset versions of the player character in every CRPG, none of them have ever been our own distinct characters.

But that's a completely different topic, one which I'd rather not see this thread devolve into, as so many others seem to do eventually...

Bar a few that I cannot deny, I didn't think any of them were overly ambiguous, even paragon interrupts. Most of them were just Shepard healing some poor bastard or breaking off into an inspirational speech, which is all relatively predeterminable. Likewise, if the camera zooms in on a highly combustible canister there's a pretty sure idea that Shepard's next move will be to shoot it. I was never disappointed with the interrupts, personally.

I'd be happy to see their inclusion in DA2, with perhaps a little refining so as to not have players do something completely out of character.

I hated having to reload the game because my cold, calculating Shepard randomly hugged someone.

Never happened to me.  Maybe you're just bad at anticipating things?

No thanks. While providing the occasional too cool for school moment the interrupts were extremely poorly designed.

Judging by most of the choices you had with various NPCs in the first game, I can only assume we'll have two on demand action buttons that cut to the chase: One that kills whoever's speaking, and the other to sleep with them.

I quite liked the interrupts in ME2, they wouldn't have fit with the old dialogue system in DA:O but that might change with the introduction of the new dialogue system in DA2.

If they do add interrupts as in ME2 I'd like to see a third option added, the comedy interrupt.

But, you see man, the one hug interrupt in the game is when one of your friends just discovered that her father is dead and has huddled herself in a corner to sob. It is really not rocket science that the little blue blip that pops up there would be Shepard offering consolation, and it's basically the same with every other interrupt in the game. There's an abundancy of indications, and if you have to reload because you broke character it would be because 90% of the time you pressed it just to see what happens despite the fact that you know it's not going to be something your Shepard would usually do.
