We're going to hear the name ''Hawke'' several times......so a better/more original name would have been a good idea.

We don't REALLY know that much about Hawke as a character.

We know he has a predetermined backstory, we know he has a predetermined race, we know he fled the Blight, we know he is a villager, we know he comes from Hawke family.

Hawke is just a name.

A very unfitting one as noted by several people.

Do we know his back story is pre-determined?, source?

No, we don't.

We do, developers never claimed it otherwise and talk about this as if it is obvious

i claim conjecture!

Gaider always said there is a single origin, this is the same as saying there are no other backstories/origins

I am going to go ahead and throw this out there trusting that this forum can be reasonable.

My last name is Dreher.
It is of Germanic origin, and is an occupational name for a turner, or "one who fashions objects on a lathe."

Quite an unfitting name for me, and unfitting for the vast majority of my family for as far back as I can find out...

And in the case of Hawke, I find the name rather fitting.  Hawks evoke images of power and speed.  They are a very "heroic" sort of image.  They aren't strictly heroic, but the image evokes the sort of feelings and concepts that you want to be associated with a hero character, but don't necessarily pin him down as being a savior in the same way that Shepard does.

ME2 did some pretty big overhauls of ME1, and it still did excellently, despite pre-release protests.

I bought ME2 as well on the success of ME1. I expected the similiar experience but with much more main and side- plot and better graphics.
I got a shooter instead. At the end I fought a terminator-like enemy similiar to enemies from arcade games from 80s and 90s.
I will not buy ME3.

You are not the entire gaming market. Why is it that you seem to insist that you and the small minority of people who hate the game based on the most inconsequential things represent the entire market as a whole? You did not like ME2--you probably won't like DA2. But, you know, that doesn't change the facts that ME2 still did well, critically and fiscally. So why should the devs listen to your argument that all of these changes are going to lead to ruin?

because when you label a game an rpg, and it turns out to be an action game, the rpg audience is going to be upset. bioware is actually pulling a marketing 180 here with dragon age. dao was a bg successor for true rpg fans, and now da2 is a 180 switch, jumping to cater the non-rpg gamers on the opposite side of the spectrum.

me2's ending was a joke too. the best thing about me2 was the (few) small things that had nothing to do with the main story (collectors and TIM). good parts: the good geth race appearing into the plot, tali's loyalty mission, grunt, until the end when he started acting like a caveman.... dispite me2 having some lame parts to the main story and the dialogue, and the limited goals (recruit, get loyalty, the end).. it was still enjoyable but only because it was on sale and was polished well. no point in buying full price at launch. they go on sale (at least for PC) quickly, so they are worth playing since they are cheap.

And yet it still did great. Thus, all of your points are moot.

Again, read what the developers actually have to say about the game before jumping to these conclusions. It is not becoming an action game. Almost everyone, despite some reservations, is willing to give BioWare the benefit of the doubt and buy the game. It is just a small, small fraction of people who aren't. My point is, BioWare isn't going to listen to these small few dissenters, especially because they were just listening to people complain about ME2--and look how it did!

Keeping the name very simple and short means that the name flows better in conversation, doesn't alienate your audience, and works effectively at personifying your character.  Shepard worked in the same way.  Hawke is supposed to be a hero.  The name evokes that sort of emotion.  Either way, nitpicking over the name is just absurd...

I vote that BioWare add a crazy relative that we find randomly way off in the corner of the world that does this, and it makes for a hilarious easter egg.

Yes. Being human, being a villager, being a refugee, having the name Hawke. This makes him unlikeable.

Not the same fanbase--DAO, ME, and ME2 appeal to the same crowd. ME2 might have broadened that crowd, but it still kept its fanbase, for the most part.

By your logic, BioWare should go into the movie business, since they do better. Start working for Pixar.
