To me the whole article reads as if the reviewer has jumped on ign's bandwagon
and aside from that rephrased quite a few passages from other articles, interviews
and concerned postings over the web.

What I'd rather like to know and wich surely will be revealed later:
Will the new hero still fight darkspawn if the importated Awakening
saved games indicate that the Architect told his folks to keep their
heads down for a couple of centuries.

I don't suppose the Engeneer and the Father got cranky becaiuse the
the warden refused to settle their dispute and now invade Thedas?
(just kidding).

Bottomloine: please don't worry too much.

The journalists still know little more thann us if any and some almost
seem determined to pay BioWare back for their silence - imho a silly
thing to do.

It's quite early to make a final assessment, but seriously if you want to go all out ''mainstream'' and even DA:O was pretty mainstream to me, then why even bother to make a new RPG-franchise?

Why not make it a shooter or sports game in the first place?

this is what pisses the majority of people off, imagine if Witcher 1 would have allowed a deeper character costumization just to be taken out for Witcher 2, or what the reaction would have been if races would have been taken out of Baldur's gate 2 after they were already in BG1

Everyone hoped for improvements and expanding on the existing things and we get instead streamlining and a massacre of what added most of the best things what increased the replayability of DA1.

Unfortunately the Xbox 360 is their lead platform this time around.

Like it or not, this will have a direct impact on the PC version.

Comparison with Ninja Gaiden is shocking. It's just another general type of combat. Ninja Gaiden combat is a reflex-based combat. Or maybe they referring to gore?

Note to self, and possibly others, with regard to dev response...it is Saturday, I'm guessing the guys are mon-fri 9-5, I may be mistaken, it has happened before and it will happen again.

I don't get why everyone's freaking out about the "hack-and-slash" comment this previewer made. One of the devs mentioned that in the demo they showed, combat was amped up because the person "retelling" that part of Hawke's story was a big fan and s/he was being complimentary.

Just wait until someone shows up and starts talking about how crap you are at fighting. You'll be surrounded by darkspawn, limply thrusting a toothpick at them, while Bethany manages to create a tiny brushfire.

I think I saw David posting last weekend. And I think its still comicon, so this might be an exception.

I'm thinking (hoping?) that its mainly in reference to the blood and gore. If you check out the screens released in the past couple weeks, it would seem limbs and such are hackable now, with the body parts scattered all over the ground. I'm fine with more decapitations and severed limbs but from the screens it looks comically over the top.

Oh I don't envy the devs- they come here on their free time mostly and at this point there isn't much they could say with regards to the combat and such. Really the easiest thing would be to just release some gameplay videos of the console and PC version overviewing the differences to set things straight. I'd imagine we won't see stuff like that until Gamescom in August at the earliest however.

But I would LOVE if a dev could confirm/deny the console/360 being the lead platform....

Abandon all hope. If this is made for Xbox than there is strong possibility the game will be nothing more than h'n's.

If so, i wonder why? The community is partly already worried about changes in combat and style, and the first demo you show you pick a scene that strongly enforces that impression? Only to tell later "don't worry, its just that way for the demo".

In a demo, i wanna give an impression how the game will be like and whats so great about it. Never heard about a demo that showed how the game won't be like.

Some where streamlining and simplicity have replaced depth and choice and what it means to be an RPG.

One day in the not so distant futyre -' Instead of you actualy chosing your fighting techinique the computer now does everyting for you, this gets rid of the need for of key board mouse or other conroller there by streamlining the gameplay and making for a very efficient gaming experience.'

I'm not sure I like that notion either with the narrator controlling events like that. It just makes it seem like we're not really even playing as Hawke or forging who Hawke is, but rather we're just puppets at the whim of the narrator. We're basically playing in ginned up flashbacks anyway, so who is to say that any of the flashback sequences regarding Hawke are the actual truth? It just reminds me of how the Leliana DLC is basically just Leliana's re-telling- its not necessarily what actually happened, its possible the whole thing was make believe rubbish.

Its a novel idea, but if they jerk you around too much with it, the whole flashback narrator structure could really get old quick, I think.

Seeing how mods are closing down threads critical towarsd cutting RPG content doesn't seem optimistic for the future of the DA franchise.

because the other thread got locked, I gonna rescue m comment about the issue with the single origin, as there are people who don't realize this is a step back anbd why it takes away  from immersion and the illusion of variation that added to the replayability of DA1

the main issue is the background all were different, now we have a
single origin, with Hawke, a peasant who fled his village, you can't
even decide your origin to the point that you were the son of the smith,
rich daughter of the merchant, or an orphan sholar at the Chantry

I just don't know about this. It seems like everything I hear gives me concern about the direction of the game. I have been a Bioware fan for years and never been disappointed. Because of that when the devs say "trust us you don't know all the information to make a decision" I take them at their word. But then when I start seeing reviews complaining about the same things I have to question if Bioware is just covering for the changes they made. If people who actually play the game say its dumbed down it is hard to believe Bioware when they say it isn't. I haven't lost faith in the game yet but everything I hear makes it sound more and more like ME. While I love Mass Effect, I like DA because it was different.

I doubt that these events will last for very long, perhaps just at the start of a certain arc? I don't think they'd have the narrator present every scene, all the time, as that would border upon the ridiculous. Plus, they were showing off the new graphical style and look of DA2, no big key points or scenes (which is obvious, since they only showed a few lines of dialogue, I think?), so they chose a part they knew they had completed and in the bag. I mean, they did only just announce it a few weeks ago. :)

Yes well...

PC origins got quite a few perfect scores.

While the Consoles did not...

I do not understand how they affect each other.
