I haven't lost faith in the game yet but everything I hear makes it sound more and more like ME. While I love Mass Effect, I like DA because it was different.

Well said. Its only been 2 brief previews from IGN and 1UP thus far, but the impressions gathered by the 2 people were that DA2 is a "streamlined" or "dumbed down" version of Origins focusing more on combat. Thats the impression BioWare gave them- is that what BioWare was aiming for? I understand its difficult to market the RPG aspects without giving story spoilers but the changes seem to be rubbing a good number of people the wrong way.

I too loved ME and ME2, but I loved Origins because it was a different kind of RPG than ME. Thus far, it just seems the devs are taking more pages (at least superficially) out of the ME2 Sequel handbook (streamline, simplify, focus on combat), rather than the BG2 Sequel Handbook (iterate, add more content, build off depth of original).

If they make it a hack & slash, it's still a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate............................. Dark Alliance ! :D

...ok, I have to say if this weren't such an obvious joke/trolling I would grab a torch and a fork and go lynching a bit :wizard:

I don't get why everyone's freaking out about the "hack-and-slash" comment this previewer made. One of the devs mentioned that in the demo they showed, combat was amped up because the person "retelling" that part of Hawke's story was a big fan and s/he was being complimentary.

Wait, that's really cool.

Isn't it just? I love the idea of someone going on about how amazingly awesome and fantastic my Hawke is, about how s/he could cleave down a dozen foes with a single swing of his/her greatsword or a wave of their staff. Makes me all giddy just thinking about it.

I had a "wait and see" attitude about both ME2 and DA:O, after hideous PR for each game.

Team Dragon Age surpassed my expectations, so I'll trust them for now.

Team Mass Effect, on the other hand... Image IPB

Why not add then to the story a bit? Hawke as the thirty feet tall giant who eats dragons, now that would be an interesting main hero based on someone else's story telling, I can already imagine what the greatest quest for Hawke would bne: Find something that can be used as a toilet (castle perhaps? or lair of a dragon? of course poor thing would suffocate from all that ****)

All hail giant Hawke!

By the time we got over the changes they announced with the sequel and accepted them, now they are shocking us with even more.

This marketing will be a fun ride 'till the release. :wizard:

It still shouldn't resemble like Ninja Gaiden, though. Not unless Bioware implemented completely separate gameplay mechanics for the exaggerated sequences.

I hope the preview writer simply has hazy memories of what NG was like. From all the humiliation and trauma that game gave him.

Some people have said that they believe the reference the NG may be the gore, no? Maybe during these "amped up" scenes, the power of your abilities goes through the roof, allowing you to deal massive damage without requiring an entirely different gameplay mechanic.

I dunno. I just think all the freaking out is premature, is all. Especially when these people think they're fighting orcs.

Yeah- if the 360 is the lead platform I worry they'll pull an ME2, where we only see much of any PC footage a couple weeks before release.

We care how it plays.

If you are in to story only then watch a film.

Ah, but you don't get to choose the outcome in films though do you? I could just read a 'choose your own adventure book' I suppose, but its not a visual medium.

Im not convinced the 360 is the lead platform. It could be the lead platform, or it could just be the lead platform for the consoles. We've heard conflicting reports.

If only there were some way to clear all this up...

Some interactive movies do allow that IIRC.

Final Destination 3 on DvD has it.

You can finish the movie in 10 mins everyone alive, chose a few deaths differently, kill off everyone or let a few of them survive in the end.

Ah, trash horror movie nights, great fun.

I'd like to think that, but given how expensive game development is, I find it hard to believe they're seriously making an entirely seperate PC version along with the consoles. I'd be thrilled if thats the case, but I think its more likely they're porting the console stuff back to the PC with only minimal changes made to the PC version.

I think one of the interviews mentioned how they want all platforms on a level playing field, which to me means they don't want the PC version superior to the consoles, like it was with Origins. I'd just like some hard news on the PC version at this point, because crummy PC ports of console games are par for the course now and it would be so disheartening to see DA2 take that route, especially after Origins was built from the ground up with the strengths of the PC in mind.
