Can I shape him into an dwarf, elf, a person that is not from a village and is not named Hawke?Grommash94 wrote...
Hawke will not be Shepard. He will be be 'your character' and you will be able to shape him into what you want.
I thought so.

The addition of a VO, a dialogue wheel, and a single "origin" is the only thing anyone who compares it to Mass Effect is really going on, and we've yet to see it in action. No one - even myself - has enough information to make a proper judgment on this game yet.
It's not just us irrational fanboys raging at the direction of Dragon Age 2. Mainstream sites like 1UP and Eurogamer are doing it too. Doesn't this tell you that something is off?

We also know that we'll be single-handedly shaping said "one character" into something entirely our own. Our choices will even be more poignant, as they're not only going by what happens when all is said and done, but your characters motives behind their actions.
Seriously, drop this "oh god oh god we only have one origin and it's a peasant this game is going to suck" nonsense. You don't know enough to make these judgments.

What haping? He is human. I cant change that into elf or dwarf race. He is a peasant-that's a fact. Can't change that either. I can't change his dumb name of "Hawke" into something else-in DA2 I had seven choices for surname.Seriously, drop this "oh god oh god we only have one origin and it's
a peasant this game is going to suck" nonsense.
Really? So where is our dwarven character, where is our elven character? Where is a character named somethign else than the "Hawke" ? Already player's choices have been limited. And what other origin other than Hawke do you see? Point it and than you can say that it is nonsense that there is only one origin.

In all likelyhood it could be Bioware marketing calling them so, in order to not to confuse their new target, who might be confused by exotic names.Grommash94 wrote...

Funny I seem to remember a game which was brilliant because it allowed numerous PC to be played with their own unique backstories. It was called Dragon Age.Grommash94 wrote...
So? Play the Fallout series, or the KOTORs. Defined roles are not new in RPGs, nor are they as bad as everyone seems to make them out to be.

Good one. So jumping on negative information and concluding the game will be bad is nonsense. Jumpint on the tiny pits of information we get and conclude that they indeed they will turn out to shape that one character into our own, contrary to what others fear, our choices will be poignat and concluding the game will be fine is alright?
Either, we have too less information, than we can't conclude anything. Or we have enough to make conclusions, than both are allowed. But simply saying believing the negative peices of information and get to neative conclusions is nonsense while believing in the posititive informations and get get to positive conclusions is just fine is nonsense as well.

Actually we are very much alike, one of the reasons why I like to play fantasy games-in order to play elves or dwarfs.Calla S wrote...
Wait, you're human, right? I'm human. Everyone (or, mostly everyone) on this board is human. Are we all alike? No, we aren't
Why am I forced to play one character when I could play several in Dragon Age? Thus allowing me to choose one I like the most.Just because you have something about playing as a human doesn't mean that we won't be able to shape our personal Hawke's personality.

I care nothing for a person named Hawke. Why should I care for a peasant from a small village?Grommash94 wrote...
Unique backstories, sure. But you wound up doing the same thing in the end; ending the Blight. That will not be the case here with Hawke, where you can rise to power in VARIOUS ways,

Hawke does something that just wouldn't make sense for Elves/Dwarves to do.
Also, it could just be that BioWare wanted to tell the story of one person who did whatever you wanted him to do. It isn't a new concept in rpgs, like I said.

Excuse me but what?! Do you seriously believe humans elves and dwarfs are the same creatures only with different looks. They have different history, culture, personalities and goals in life. They are extremely different from each other.Calla S wrote...
You do realize the only difference between humans, elves, and dwarves is appearance, right?
I feel sorry if you really don't realise how rich background each of those races has.So basically your only argument is that you're ticked off you can't be super short or have pointy ears.
I don't care for a peasant human female Bethany(sounds like Botany Bay or something really). Also, Hawke has a sister, Bethany. It'd throw up some major flags if you were a dwarf with a human sister.

because the other thread got locked, I
gonna rescue m comment about the issue with the single origin, as there
are people who don't realize this is a step back anbd why it takes
away from immersion and the illusion of variation that added to the
replayability of DA1the main issue is the background all were different, now we have a
single origin, with Hawke, a peasant who fled his village, you can't
even decide your origin to the point that you were the son of the smith,
rich daughter of the merchant, or an orphan sholar at the Chantry
