Let's compare character names in DA1 and DA2

Starting with PC's.
Your surname in DA1 could be
  • Cousland
  • Amell
  • Surana
  • Tabris
  • Mahariel
  • Aeducan
  • Brosca
In DA 2 your surname is
  • Hawke
Is it just me or the DA1 have more fantasy and RPG feeling while the name Hawke sounds very simplistic and boring?

If by "fantasy and RPG feeling" you mean names that don't actually exist ITRW, then maybe it's true. Hawke is a real English name, as are Amell and Cousland. (Edit: British, not English; sorry, Scots.) The dwarven and elven names seem to have been made up out of whole cloth.

So the name issue collapses into the "playing a human" issue.

Well fantasy usually takes place in worlds that don't exist, and usually names are to be more of exotic feel. The name Hawke seems simply boring. If I would like to play in traditional England I would pick another game.

 Oh dear god.

The surname Hawke is just as decent as most of those you listed. It's reminiscent of an Olde English surname (because, oh hey, look at that, it's been around since the 7th century), and given the fact that you're playing a human, that's the way it really should be if you want a ~fantasy and RPG feeling.~

I guess you should have picked another game, then. DA human language patterns are explicitly based on RW equivalents.

How come this didn't bother you when playing DAO?

Because I had a choice.

Hawke reminds me of a bird and sounds silly. And I actually dislike playing humans.DA1 offered me a choice in that regard. DA2 offers you "play a human peasent or play a human peasent, if that doesn't suit you, you can always play a human peasant".

There's already a thread about Hawke's name
