Two things, and they are inter-related:

1.  You ignored the directions on how to report a problem

2.  Chances are very, VERY good that you also ignored the game's System Requirements as well.

Minimum System Requirements for Mass Effect on the PC
(Corrected from dumb, Pie in the Sky lies to the real thing)

Operating System:
Windows XP or Vista

Processor:
2.4+GHZ Intel or 2.0+GHZ AMD

2 Gigabyte Ram (Vista)

ATI Radeon X1800 GTO (X1300, X1300 Pro, X1550, HD 2400, HD 3200, HD 3450, HD 3470, HD 4200, HD 4350, HD 4550, and HD 5450 are below minimum system requirements)

Look at the list of what doesn't work for desktops. See the "210"? That's what you have, but in a laptop, and it's a weak BUSINESS level graphics device, not particularly close to the official minimum. I suspect that the configuration utility found it worked way too slowly to be able to do anything with it.

well you're wrong, I managed to bypass this issue and the game works just fine, with no problem in high detail, all it was just a security issue, nothing more, my laptop is able to run Crysis asn well in high detail, but thanks for the help, appreciate it

what did you do to resolve it?  I just loaded ME onto my laptop and am having the same issue.  I'm just beginning to look into a solution now before posting so please share if you can.  It should have plenty of resources to run the game W7 x64, Intel i720, NVidia 1gb 330m, 4gb ram.

Resolving this problem is very easy.

Do NOT start this creepy  launcher. Start the [Install-Path]/MassEffect/Binaries/MasseEffect.exe and it will run properly.

you're right, that does work on my W7 laptop. however I would like to run the configuration so I can choose the correct resolution for my machine. As it stands now, I can only select 4:3 aspect from within the game. The configuration utility lets you set up for widescreen and higher resolution after scanning the system.

The mentioned graphics card, according to the benchmarks, outperforms the supported 6800 GT, which is already quite old. No reason the game shouldn't work, even if only at minimum settings.

My own rankings place it out of the running, based on poor pixel shader capability. I ignore most synthetic benchmarks, especially when nVIDIA is involved, with their history of constantly including firmware for bypassing the tests that benches such as 3Dmark attempt to apply.
