Patch 1.04 DLC authorization problem

I've just updated to 1.04 today and when I try to play, all my DLCs that require authorization says unauthorized when I logged in. I didn't say that when I logged out but I can't stand being unable to log in and play so I reinstalled the game and the same thing happens. I then tried a lot of the stuff in the unofficial DLC faqs but it still didn't work (manually running the DA Content Updater and all). Finally after deciding I can live without Patch 1.04, I reverted to 1.03 and now it says authorized when I logged in. I don't know if the DLCs will work properly, the big ones like the Stone Prisoner and Return to Ostagar are still downloading but we'll see in a few minutes. Also does anyone encounter any problems with their DLC authorization after updating to Patch 1.04 or is it just my terrible luck at work?

Yep, for some reason either the servers aren't up to snuff, or the patch itself messed something up. You can play the game offline and avoid the authentication issues, but then you won't be able to upload your character information. I can't wait for when Dragon Age 2 comes out, and they shut the servers off entirely! Just like Madden!

I fixed this problem with the following found it as a solution to a similar problem in the DLC game errors FAQ (http://social.biowar...58/index/759141)

First try and manually start the service just to make sure that it will run properly :

1.) Press the windows key + R (or click Start and then RUN) and type in services.msc and press ENTER

2.) Locate the Dragon Age: Origins - Content Update in the list of services.

3.) Right click it and select START

I was less lucky than you. I have lost my part of the dragon armour and all my DLCs after 35 hours of play (with only 5 slots for savegames, you don't have much chance to recover anything)... I tried everything. No luck. I wiped out the savegames from disk and I'm thinking to trash the game.
After 8 months from the release, we still have these problems. The bad thing is the release notes of this patch claims these problems are fixed. No, they're not fixed. I lost 35 hours. At this point, I fear this game. I don't know if I have the stomach to restart it from the beginning (playing with the fear of this problem).

Sorry, but I won't buy the next DLCs and probably I won't buy DA II. I'm tired of these non working protections that punish only people that buy games. Very tired.

I've found that I can get my DLC eventually, but it takes anything from 1 to 5 minutes before DA gets through its authorisation process. This is only since applying 1.04 and is remarkably tedious when I just want to get in and play, but I guess is better than not being able to get in at all. BTW my DA update service is set to start automatically with Windows, so that isn't the problem.

I think you can shorten the delay for the first savegame loading by following these steps after the game launch:

1. from main menu, check that you are logged in then select Downloadable Content

2. if you see your DLCs on a green background, proceed to step 7

3. wait for Point Balance to be updated

4. close panel

5. click again Downloadable Content

6. this time you should see your installed DLC on a green background and the Points Balance in update mode again

7. wait for Points Balance to be updated. If you still see any DLC on a green background, return to step 4

8. close panel and load your saved game.

You only have to proceed this way on your first savegame load after DA:O launch. Once this is done, you can directly load savegames during the same session. Using this procedure, I generally wait less than one minute before being able to correctly load a previous savegame after initial DA:O launch.

I've found another thread about the same problem (don't remember what it's called though :P ) and they said it was the lagging server too. They suggested going to the first tab in the DLC menu and wait for your BioWare points to update, I believe this solution has been mentioned here, too. It worked for me, took about 3 minutes though... Hopefully this work for you guys too and sorry to those who has to restart from the beginning (I did that about 4, maybe 5 times during my course as a Dragon Age player). Too bad this problem came up, Dragon Age is a fine game. Maybe the next patch will be less problematic. Also really looking forward to getting Awakening next month (I know, it's like I live in a cave somewhere in Siberia but I just haven't got the opportunity) and of course, DA II

Dragon Age savegames for your charecter [name] are stored in Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age\\Characters\\[name]\\Saves (or My Documents\\... under XP) . If you have moved or deleted this folder, saves will not appear in game. They also do not appear if you changed the location of Documents (or My Documents) folder from Windows without moving the content of this folder.

Was this a digital version that you manually patched?

These problems with the registration DLCs have more than one year and Bioware/EA could not reach an adequate solution?!... They must do something right and ethical for a change! ... Any lawyers here???

Read the "Our DAO PC Plans Going Forward" thread. A patch to correct the DLC is in the works.
