Been looking through all the different weapons, and their states, and been wondering which weapon is bested for squadmates. Example, what's the best Shotgun for every Shotgun squad member? What's the best Assualt Rifle for every squad member? What's the best Sniper Rifle for every squad member? etc.

Thoughts?

Best sniper for squadmates is the Incisor SR. Shotguns suck on squadmates, though Eviscerator is best due to its best range. As for rifles, Vindicator should be better, but Avenger is pretty good too.

Haven't played around with the Incisor Sniper Rifle enough, but I'm told it's quite nice in the hands of your squadmates since they rarely miss and don't have to worry about the low clip count. But I tend to give them the Viper as every shot with the Viper hinders the enemy's ability to recover. I tend to keep the Vindicator on my squadmates as well, as I believe its DPS is the best of all of the assault rifles minus the Revenant.

Shotguns and squadmates are my cross to bear.

Eviscerator for shotguns. Vindicator for assault rifles. Incisor for sniper rifle. Tempest for submachine gun.

No love for the Geth Pulse Rifle I see? Not surprised, but it is weird that it's not considered useful since it's only unlocked on Insanity.

Hardcore and Insanity actually... it can be useful on Shepard who is an adept (but only after the accuracy upgrade).  And mostly just for Collector missions... which means two missions total.  That has been my experience.  As for squadmates... nah.  Give them the vindicator.

Fighting Suns (Disruptor on 1 Geth Rifle, Inferno/AP etc Revenant)

1 Carries Geth rifle

1 Carries Geth rifle

Me Carries Revenant

Fighting Eclipse/Collectors (Warp ammo on Geth rifle and Vindicator, inferno, AP on revenant)

1 carries Geth Rifle

1 Carries Vindicator

me Revenant

Fighting Geth Disruptor on pulse rifles, Inferno on Revenant.

1 Geth Rifle

1 Geth Rifle

1 revenant.

Geth Rifles.. SMG mostly the same.

Shotguns.... For Grunt Found the Scimitar to be my taste, he shoots faster with it I think, maybe is just me, I personally use the scimitar with Inferno, if somebody closes in their shields are long gone, and I like the higher rate of fire better for Grunt.

Jack, tali, Jacob, the evicirator, long range just in case.

Pistols.... hand cannons, they need as much power in as few shots as possible to remain more time in cover, so hand cannon makes them survive more in my games.

Snipers... varies for me between mantis and incissor, high dmg for either armor or shield/barriers, with minimal time out of cover. Depends which badies are

Pistols: I give them the Carnifex, but it's a moot point since I never have them use pistols.

SMGs: I usually give them the Tempest. They're unusually accurate with it, which allows them to deal a much higher rate of damage than with most other SMGs. The Locust is pretty decent in their hands too.

Shotguns: I give them the Eviscerator, although I give Grunt the Claymore. Squadmates usually don't know how to close in for the best use of their shotgun, so the Eviscerator's better range works well.

Assault Rifles: I usually give them the Vindicator. Again, they're unusually accurate with it, although it means you won't be able to get suppressing fire from your squadmates. If you have access to it, the Geth Pulse Rifle is quite handy too. (I usually give Legion the GPR over the Vindicator just for flavour. XD)

Sniper Rifles: Incisor all the way, except for Legion, whom I gave the Widow to. Once again, squadmates are unusually accurate with the Incisor (it seems to be the case for all burst-fire weapons), and since squadmates never run out of ammo, that negates the two main drawbacks of the Incisor when using it on Shepard.

I'm in the same boat as Zaxares for preferences. The squadmate's 100% accuracy essentially means that a weapon's accuracy isn't particularly important.

I generally outfit my squadmates with a weapons that give them a balance between long and short range options. So, for instance, that's Vindi and Claymore for a Grunt, Scimitar and Carnifex for Jacob, and so on.

The only real decision involves whether to give squadmates a Tempest or a Locust. They're very comparable - it really boils down to whether I expect the squad mate to be using an SMG at short range (Thane, Samara) or using it at longer ranges (Miranda, Mordin, Kasumi).

I just equip squadies with whatever gun suits their characters. Jacob and Jack are Vanguards so they'll be using the Eviscerator, Grunt is a Krogan - wouldn't make sense to not equip the Krogan shotgun eh? Legion uses the Widow or GPR. Thane and Garrus are snipers - Viper. Samara is basically an Asari Commando plus Judge and Executioner - AR (Vindi). Miranda, Mordin, Kasumi (and Morith) will be firing a SMG (Tempest or Locust, not sure which one I prefer, its the Tempest for Shep), Zaeed will be using the Vindi and Tali her shotgun - I just love SG so I equip everyone able to use one.

Did I mentioned everyone?

I see different weapons as holding different roles:

Shotguns

Scimitar: I give this to characters that I want on the back lines hopeing they spray and pray. I expect the Geth Plasma Shotgun to take its place.
Evicorator: Give this to grunt to maximize his cqc ability
Geth Plasma Shotgun: I have yet to try it. see above.

Sniper
Incisor: hands down my favorite. Especialy if I snipe (no one can snipe longer than me:devil:). The bug makes this gun for squadies.
Viper: wtf why don't you have Aegis? Serriously though, without the Incisior its this or the mantis.
Mantis: Only use is to force allies to cover more often.
Widow: alright Legion you can have your rifle.

AR
Vindicator: best all around stock rifle available. No one will argue this.
Mattlock: have yet to try but will likely replace the Vindicator

SMG
Locust: Tempest does better.
Tempest: best squad mate DPS
Shuriken: Hear me out. The 3 round burst forces cover more often. Give this to Miranda, Morridin, and Kasumi and you will have to worry less about them

Pistol
Carnifax unless the Phalenx works well when I can test it.

i dont like to micromanage which weapons i equip to myself or my squaddies so i keep the same ones throughout the entire playthrough with those that have the highest base DPS

AR... the mattlock gives more DPS than all of the snipers, minus widow

sniper... allot of people say that the incisor is the best but its DPS barely scratches the mantis. if you're using legion give him the widow, of course

shotgun... i give my squaddies, other than grunt the geth plasma because of its high damage, i heard that squaddies will charge shots, but have yet to see it, but its accuracy at distance makes it best anyway. as for grunt give him the claymore just like giving legion the widow and send him charging into the enemy formation, as long as you have krogan vitality and heavy fortification on him he will be able to survive anything long enough for you and your other squaddie to take down the enemies that grunt doesn't get to first

SMG... haven't done much research into it but i heard that the locust makes getting the AR training for the other classes redundant so i equip it for those squaddies

HP... the phalenx is beast... that is all

Don't use Locust on squaddies - it has lower damage and they don't benefit from the higher accuracy. Have them stick with the Tempest, or even the Shuriken (they tend to fire the Tempest in bursts anyhow.)

As AJ said, the Shuriken also forces your squad to stay in cover more often, keeping them alive with less babysitting from you.

Some characters, like Mordin, are perhaps better off with the Locust due to their levels having mostly armoured enemies.

The Firepower pack weapons are all really deadly in the hands of your allies. The Mattock blows the Vindicator and the Geth Pulse Rifle away. The Geth Pulse shotgun works really nice in ally hands too. I don't have them use Pistols enough to see how the Phalanx turns out, but I think it winds up slightly better than the Carnifex.

If you feel the need to let your squadmates use shotguns, go with the Geth Plasma Shotgun.

Indeed. From my experience squadmates are extremely effective with the Plasma Shotgun.

I never understood what was so good about the Geth Pulse Rifle. Yes it destroys shields and barriers. But another way to do this is by just using a weapon with a much higher DPS. Besides, I will stick to my previous claim that armor is by far the most important defense to deal with on Insanity.

Pistols: Carnifex or Phalanx
AR's: Vindicator or Mattock, Avenger for Zaeed b/c of Disruptor Ammo
SMG: Tempest
Shotgun: Geth Pulse Shotgun, Claymore or Evi for Grunt.
Sniper Rifle: Incisor or Viper, Mantis for Garrus to take advantage of AP/Tungsten, Widow for Legion

Total agreement here. Yes, it requires buying the Firepower DLC, but its worth it.

Shotgun-wielding squaddies tend to rush forward at enemies, even when there's a horde of them. If you're willing to micromanage your squadmates a bit, you can place them behind cover with the Geth shotgun and they can fire effectively at decent range. Geth shotgun for everybody -- with the notable exception of Grunt.

=====

I used to like the Locust for squaddies, but posters on this forum showed me the error of my ways. The Tempest delivers massive firepower and the automated squaddies don't have trouble controlling it.

I strongly suspect the same principle's at work with pistols. If the same logic applies, then give squaddies the Carnifex for its higher rate of fire.

As for sniper rifle, I've found the Incisor better choice but can't prove it.

The simple truth is that no squaddie, not even Thane, is going to be a "one shot, one kill" specialist with whatever sniper rifle you give him. Therefore, the Incisor's higher rate of fire matters more.

========

I long to hear the "bam-bam" of a squaddie firing a rapid-fire double tap with a Mattock -- and haven't heard it yet. I've been listening for it a long time. What I keep hearing is the steady "boom - boom - boom" of single shots. Therefore, I'm not convinced the Mattock is the best choice for squaddies, but I'm researching the topic more.

Count me in as a fan of the Geth Assault Rifle. Zaheed, for instance, needs something that strips away shields. He has concussive shot for barriers and inferno grenade for everything else.

This has been my experience too. Squaddies just don't seem to handle rapid-fire semi-autos very well.

Exactly why I've relegated them to full-autos, burst weapons, and slow-ROF weapons. They simply can't take full advantage of the Viper/Mattock.

NOTE: I think I have had Grunt rapid firing with Inferno Ammo once, but not sure.
