Alistair to return?

Also, our warden disappeared. Be it with in Witch hunt or on an adventure with Leiliana. Could they unite and if so for what purpose? Will be interesting to see.

Ah, but lets not forget. Alistar IS a warden. That means he is destined for the deep roads. Perhaps he wants to have one last hurrah, or perhaps he is too stubborn to go to the deep roads and becomes a ghoul that needs to be dealt with. That is providing you let him live in one of your play throughs.

Did everyone's Warden disappear? Technically, if the epilogue is to be believed, mine disappeared with Alistair, so . . .?
Also, unless he's got some seriously bad mojo, Alistair shouldn't have to deal with his Calling for another 10-20 years after Dragon Age 2 ends, I think. I thought that Wardens remained Wardens around 30 years before finally being devoured by the taint?
Hm. Of course, it's late (for me!), and it's possible I just made that number up.

He has 30 years. At the beginning of DA2, he'll be about half a year or a little more into it--a little more than ten by the end of the game He'll still have more than half his life ahead of him, so the calling has exactly zero effect here. Although the 'That is providing you let him live in one of your play throughs' tells me that you already knew that.
Oh, I see that SgtElias already pointed this out.

And yes I think it is around 30 years for the taint, although Duncan was going a bit sooner, I believe according to the books... but it was probably sped up due to the blight etc.
Dragon Age 3: Return of the Hero of Ferelden.... and we all lean on our walking sticks, I mean aim our pointy sticks into the darkspawn horde... fueled by the DEMON NON CANON dark ritual baby that some of us did not choose to father/put Alistair and/or Loghain to father. DOOM DOOOM DOOOOOM.
Starts epic CGI and MUSIC
In walks Alistair with perfect hair, and quirked lip.... ok am all tapped out

Yep, my warden didn't go anywhere. Lots of wardens didn't go anywhere. Well, there was that crappy slide at the ending of Awakening, but I'm pretty sure that was meant to lead into an expansion that never happened, which was probably also supposed to explain the peculiarly abrupt ending to Awakening.TK2121 wrote...
But the Warden doesn't have to disappear. If you become King/Queen, and don't go with Morrigan then you'll still be around.

As has already been pointed out, 10 years is a bit short a time span for ghoul Alistair to be walking around.Biotic Budah wrote...

My Wardens aren't going anywhere with those chicas. Not sure who you're talking about. <_<Also, our warden disappeared. Be it with in Witch hunt or on an adventure with Leiliana. Could they unite and if so for what purpose? Will be interesting to see.

Thats what I'm guessing, my warden just goes off, not even with her husband..

Not to be a downer, but I tend to think they're not going to undo the Warden's disappearance, because I get the feeling it's a plot point *now*, regardless of its original purpose. The mirror is just one possible reason for it; I'm thinking Flemeth is the other possible reason. (And yes, The Reason may not have a pretty or definitive conclusion, but I think it'll provide sufficient justification for the Warden's egress.)ZombieGeisha wrote...

It might fit into the stuff that Morrigan tells you at the end of Witch Hunt, that the Wardens at large need to be wary of the change to come and that Flemeth played a larger role in the Blight than is realized. So having all the Wardens disappear (including Alistair) might free them up to return on more or less the same page in some future game. Or at least thats my hope.

I'd not sure that it can actuactually be said that they made the warden disappear at all. For one thing, end slides are variable, different people get different ones--not all warden's disappear, Alistair doesn't always go to Weisshaupt, etc. And not everyone buys DLC its and 'extra', so they can't really say to people 'this is what happened to your warden, you just didn't play it.'Ymladdych wrote...

They can say that anything happened that they want, for any reason, at any time--it's their game. But saying that it's because of a choice you never made in a game or in a DLC you didn't buy.... That wouldn't be so good.

My thinking is that the Warden disappearing is a plot point that will be dealt with- I think Gaider said as much in some thread. The fact that Alistair can disappear along with the Warden makes me think its something "Wardenly" they may be off to- not the Calling though, cause killing off your PC off screen like that would be laaaaaame.

That would be something pretty big that made the king take off without a word to go be a warden. I never tied that to Morrigan's statement in witch hunt before. I find myself intrigued!
And to pull this back to DA2... Wonder if Flemeth will meet Alistair and have anything to say about them killing her (if she was killed in one's game). It's usually Alistair who's gotten the deed done in my games.

Its when you go through Witch Hunt as an Orlesian that Morrigan actually says that stuff about Flemeth and telling the Orlesian to go and tell the Wardens to be wary of the change to come.errant_knight wrote..

Even if he is King, Alistair technically is still a Warden, right? So presumably if something super duper important was brewing, like Flemeth up to something or whatever that Change is, he could take off- Maric did as much in The Calling for lesser reasons.
That would be interesting...Can't imagine Flemeth would be too happy.errant_knight wrote..

@Brock, Maric's reasons for going off were pretty important too. I mean his kingdom reasons, not his personal ones. Don't want to spoiler or divert too much though.

I don't know. It's not that I want a fairy tale ending, heck not sure I want an ending at all but I definitely don't want "They disappeared" since that makes no sense whatsoever. And you shouldn't be cheated out of a better role for your character because you choose to buy the DLCs...

Gaider did not rule out the possibility that we might see our Wardens again...one day. He said that several podcasts ago.

He did say it. I specifically asked if we would ever know why our Wardens disappeared and he said we would, but not anytime soon. He also said that we shouldn't expect complete answers, which put me off a little... but to be fair I can't remember if the advice was not to expect complete answers *anytime soon* or at all.

Did he say it before or after Witch Hunt? I can understand the disappearence for some Wardens (gone with Morrigan).

If we are lucky Alistair will travel to find out more on his family. I mean his mother was free of the calling due to what happened in the deeproads and she is a warden commander as well a elven mage. Maybe the wash sister was a fake just to keep him from looking for her. We will have to wait until DA3 if the wardens will return to fill in the 10yr gap of DA2. We did kill the architech and utha who were the others they were allied with beside the orlesian mages. maybe flemeth herself due the fact she knew about the blight comming.
