I don't ban anyone but I do add them to my ignore list.

Folks who send me PMs inviting me to a PW.
Folks who send me PMs advertising junk.
Folks who send me PMs linking to polls.
Folks who send me PMs linking me to messages.

Of course, if they're on my friends list, I don't ignore them.

FP!

This sounds a bit off topic; if you mean from an NWN 1 PW, no I have not been banned as a player, and have banned only 1 player from my PW campaign, though there were three prior to me hosting our PW that were banned for griefing.

And as far as from these or other BioWare Forums, it is generally not open for discussion.

Well I haven't seen Kail post yet...

I've only been banned from one message board in my 10+ years of posting... That was a political forum with a very biased group of mods...

We have banned 12 people...all the same person though using skimmed CD Key Codes. And from what I understand we ended up sharing these with four other large servers because of his actions on those servers. (Greifing, sexual tells, and junk like that.)

I wish Gamespy had a true policing group so he could have just been removed all together.

I have banned a total of 16 people.  9 of those were only temporary bans as these people only caused minor disruptions and just needed a temporary "time out" in order to let their issues and the parties involved calm down.   We currently have 7 people on our permanent ban list.

We do not take permanent banning lightly as I firmly believe that after a "time-out" most mature and reasonable individuals will realize that what they have done has caused a major disruption to other peoples fun.  Obviously though, some people do not learn even after numerous explanations of why their behaviors were offensive and several chances to correct such behavior.  I'd much rather ban a few people who cause disruptions for others rather than allow them to continue to cause disruptions.

1.Why lol whos Kail?

2.Ya some people out there have multiple cds...Those are like the hardcore trouble makers they go out and buy new cds lol and come back just to cause more trouble.

3.As for not posting this is general discusion ....well i dont think there is really a good spot for it..maybethe dm spot but i figure the storys are intresting.

4.As a moderator what do you look for when banning people.Do you have like a code you follow or do you just get frustrated and ban them.I was awalys curious about that.A long time ago i guess someone named scareface got banned but it sounded like he was a good scriptor.I feel some people just get frustrated with computers along with scripting and tend to freak out a little.

5.As for me i was banned on the vast when i first started playing. It landed up being the first server i ever played and i awalys wanted to go back because it was my first server.AFTER $ years they finally unbaned me.

6.Overall i dont think people should be banned.Only kicked from games.Maybe if you have a persistant unban dm widget you could ban them for like a time but i think everyone deserves a second chance.

I hate banning people because they usually react in a crazy destructive ways when we do, but it's gotta be done sometimes. We've had x-players that create new blog pages about our server because they were mad at a ban... seriously, people? Just find another PW, it's not worth all that.

I've only been banned from one PW because one of my pcs mentioned she lived in the Vast and was just visiting the server's area. I used to work there and some of the staff and I butted heads before I left. Kinda funny because the head guy admitted technically I hadn't done anything ban worthy and it was a wrongful ban.

I only ever banned one person from my server.

Killing cows for no good reason the instant you log-in on a RP campaign server and ignoring Tells will do that though.

Banning a Player would be best, because then the players KNOW what kind of server it is, if you can't constructively handle bad players (eg. characters), and banning is your only solution, then I guess it only shows what kind of server your running... (Score one for the dark!)

I always get really constructive on this subject...

Naptime is a DM tool I use to black out the players screen, of course the script tells them why they have been put to sleep, and if they log, they will have to start the process ALL OVER AGAIN...
They can't shout / speak by any means / nor send tells...
So they are 100% disabled...more or less

If they really want to be a pest, they can log on another toon, show their still being obnoxious, and then promptly get a nap for that character as well...

If they just don't know when to quit, become obnoxious even more, then we properly bring them to town and have a nice little parade. where all their gear is randomly distributed amoungst the onlookers (Players) - (Think like Luskan Carnaval here...) "100% DM control is always fun.."

Then of course if they flat out disrepect everyone, attempt to crash the server, or are blatantly hating, then we reserve the chains of darkness forever for them... unfortunately....

I still disagree with banning.Especially for just killing cows. What if that player really liked your server....and actually genisys has about the best idea where to just black out there screen with a dm tool.

Could you post your script or link to that.Id prefer a single script instead of a package.I looked threw some of those packages you made dont dont remember seeing that in there.

I doubt he'd have had the chance to find out.
A random log-on into a labelled RP environment where there's absolutely no reason to do that, and ignoring about 10 minutes of DM Tells and attempts to curtail the behaviour.
But, like so many of these situations, it really is a judgement call, a lot of which depends on the circumstances.

What truely amazes me is The amount of Banning double standard that takes place. Being banned for a reason, as from not following certain rules or, in most cases a lack of controling ones behavior, seams a huge suprise to the banned, and often a "that should not have happened" by the community, yet had the same reason been used, say to ban one from a web page forum, it is seen as perfectly acceptable. There are certain rules here for instance that if not followed will result in a ban. We all accept that as fine, even logical. Most of us do not push the limits of that, to see how far we can go, because We want to be here, and be allowed to continue contributing. Yet if in game, where rules are stated like they are here, and they are broken, sometimes repeatedly, bannings seams such a horendious thing to do to the one who can't follow the guidelines put in place.

Maybe it is just me, but If I took the time to build a PW, and host it, And even put a few things that I do not want done in it, and that I will ban the one who does those things, I expect either you agree to follow the rules and play, or to move on. if I have to stop, and deal with someone who is not, I will deal with them in the shortest amount of time possible. I do that by banning. I do that because if they are old enough to use a computer, and play a game, then they should be old enough to act like they want to be here in the first place. It is not my place to instruct players in behavior, that they should have learned in childhood. It is not my perogative to hold someones hand while they waste my, and everyone elses time to figure it out. Most NWN players are adults. Sometimes the anonymity of the internet takes away thier ability to act like it. Banning is a nice reminder that If you act like a bone head, we will treat you like one.

That being said, killing cows in game is not imho a reason to ban forever. Boot yes, ban till next reset sure.

I have only banned 2 players.

One for misconduct. (PG13 rule)

the other for brining in a haked character just to kill and harass other players. It was his first and last time on the server.

Anything for you Builder Anthony, I'm glad your still around mate, your a cool guy in my book. :)

Well the Sleep Wand is actually 3 parts (maybe 4 I think), so I could do a special little sample mod with an erf for you, but you will still need to merge the OnClientEnter event script with yours...

I'll post a link in a new thread for you...

It will be in the scripting forums mate..

This was more like a problem in the early years of NWN gaming...when all the servers where full also. Both players and admins have mature theese days.

That "cow incident" described is probably what we could call a "bored players syndrome". Maybe not a permanent ban but at least some kind of punishment. Being directly disruptive towards other players is ofcourse a bigger problem.

A bigger problem than the players I think are the admins that do not understand their responsabilities. Like being fair and treating all players alike. I've seen far more oversteps on that side than from players being abusive. Usually this is nothing that you will hear about while a server is running..

To sum it all up....as I mentioned before...both players and admins have matured. It is a whole different ball-game now. Well....still maybe some server admins think they can act badly but most treat their players as "customers"....as it should be....

I've seen a lot of bans in my time, but I've only personally had to handle 3 bans, for 3 players remaking Naruto characters with basically the same names and acting pretty much in bad taste.

I've been banned from a server once because I refused to put up/participate with the hosts attempted rape on another character.

Aye...servers that allow this really annoy me. Yes there is social servers that do allow this. Yet I honestly think that unless the server itself says WE ARE RATED NC17 SERVER WITH CONTENT UNFIT FOR THOSE UNDER 18 then rape and torture should not be allowed. You can easily emote "Does Bad STuff to other PC* and leave it at that.

Cybering and such I actually feel the same way but not sure how many else do so will leave that alone.

And Shova, I dig very much what you wrote. When servers try to be all end all for everyone they lose thier flavor of being different and sooner or later a banning will have to happen because in the rush to get players some Admins allow anything from half drow naked naruto pcs who are sorc/monk/rdd combos and wonder what the heck happened.

Memo to self: when working on next server, give all domestic animals 40 levels in monk. That'll teach 'em.

Of course the level of banning has dropped in the last few years. It use to be almost a weekly thing to have to try and stop certain types from logging in to a server. My favorite way was to actualy go in and script the cdkey, and isp in the on enter script. I actualy havent banned anyone in 3, 3 and half years, and that last one was for cybering on a teen server. Just goes to show that the level of maturity in behavior has in fact improved over the years as those who could not handle it, have moved on to where ever they go.
