Banning for killing cow just shows how bad are the module creators. As player I often trying such ridiculous actions just to see how they handled it. Mostly they didn't and will just ban you if you do it. However there are exceptions where guards will kill you in return and cows will be there again after some time.

Btw I was banned two times, once for PKing and bugging in "light" RP server, then on other server for making build which wasnt possible due to alignment shift (rdd/dd combo) and the way I did it - so they found out that I can do much more than that. However they canceled it as I made a script that disallowed anyone to do what I did before. Also once at forum, and Axe Murderer called on old forums for ban for me too .

Totally pro-ban. If someone's comin' on to your server, and doing things you don't want them to do, then, even as a player, I'm all for locking the doors. It's your world. You get to decide how it's played.

That said, effort should certainly be made to reconcile with the player, lest, in the extreme, there be no more players willing to make the effort. How much effort one wants to make is up to the individual, and likely, the situation. Banning as a first reaction may be infantile (and likely have rather negative consequences for your world building plans), but watching as a disruptive player strings out an administration until the last nerve is frayed is far more frustrating than a game should ever be.

Do note that I'm only talking about banning from PWs, or other open MP play. Public Forums (even if they're not entirely public) are a different matter. Ya gotta do somethin' pretty messed up to get banned here.

Killing cows for no good reason the instant you log-in on a RP campaign server

Memo to self: when working on next server, give all domestic animals 40 levels in monk. That'll teach 'em.

You know six, that's the exact attitude some Server Admins / Builders need, a solution...

Banning is only one way to handle the problem, but if you only put out the fire and don't look at what is causing the problem, then you will continue to put out fires all your life....

Temptation is the real problem, because it's tempting to slay cows just standing there taking up server resources. :)
(I hate placeable objects too.. :)

Of course, six has shown us a creative way of dealing with the problem, you will notice he didn't blow up, get mad, and just DM Slay the PC for being stOOpid, and yes  players (especially kids) can get pretty silly, believe me...

6) Not everyone deserves a second chance! But i do agree that personalities can sometimes get in the way and conflicts occur.

1) Kail... you serious? I think not knowing of Kail is a bannable for life offence! LOL :P jk

lol

...but srsly...who's Kail? Sounds like some "epic troll." which makes me sigh of course, but doesn't make me not curious now that you've mentioned him.

Kail has been an institution at the Bioboards for years now. If he gives you character building advice, no matter how odd it might sound at first, you should listen. He is very rarely wrong.

Have fun :)

Another thing to note....if I may be so bold to give some advice here...it is not always giving a player a total ban outright is needed. We tend to try and take a four strike rule with the fourth being the total complete ban. We have the one day ban, the Rule Breakers Items, the couple day banning, the loss of PCs and then the outright banning.

Sometimes even just removing the player and the DM from the sitituation helps to talk to them.

This is someting we have found works really well is that we have several different types of Staff on the server. All of them are equally important. Builders, Forum Admins/Leto Folks, Quest leaders/DMs, and then the GMs.

Now while a QL/DM may see someone doing something wrong they can send a tell or even better jump in and do real rp response to help curb the behaviour and show it is a unwanted behaviour OR they can contact one of us GMs on Skype if we are not in and we deal with it to curb QLs being seen as Enforcers instead of vital Storytellers like they should be.

Every player that logs in is also given a Tracking Thread which we post PMs, player name, CD Key Codes, deity and anything else useful for other QLs to do. This helps tremondously to facilitate communication which is key among servers. You would b amazed that even on a server that has 30 different regular players a aweek how hard this to maintain but how much it helps just having a place like this.

Now say they(the angry Player) have contuined thier bad behaviour and a QL/DM can drop on them Rule Enforcers Book which drops a player down to no XP able to be earned, all skills drop to 0, and all abilities drop to 3 and the player has a book in thier hands that gives al the Server Rules. Or a QL can boot them for the night ONLY after telling the player why and then after printing the log on the forum tracking thread so we all can read through it and offer suggestions if needed.

One of our QLs when he first came several people wanted to ban him. He had gotten an attitude and it contuined to flare up and we finally realized it had come to that both players and QL were getting burned out. So instead after the first offense of getting the book or booting only one of the four GMs handles it. He has now been on our server for two years and is a great DM.

This has made it much easier. Every server has these guys and gals. Not all DMs are created equally. I am not a Great Storyteller DM but I am very good at handling problem players as I talk to them and normally diffuse the thing.

SO allow your DMs to do the fun stuff and have a set few who dela with problems will help your server overall. Les bannings, less Staff burnout and more fun.
