Has anyone tried these methods now that NWN2 is available for purchase form the appstore?  Aspyr is offering the fully patched no-cd version of NWN2 for $19.99 on the app store.

Just checked this out. I'm pissed now because it seems they have forsaken the 8600GTM cards of the 2.2 GHz MBP's. It still should work or at least hope so. Now here again I think and I say I think that if one were to get this, it might be a way to forget about the need for the disc. Though you would need to copy over the files for MoTB, MoW, and SoZ again.

This version seems way different. No documents folder. No nwncdkey.ini. When I run the application I see the CD Key appear in a CMD window but unsure where the key is being stored. I am new to MAC and App store apps.

Hi there. When you open up a window on your mac, you should see the listing for Documents. Click that and see in the directory if there is a folder called Aspyr or Neverwinter Nights 2. In the NWN2 folder you should see the .ini file. The fastest way is to do a search for .ini and then see the location of where it is.

The Mac App Store version has relocated the game and documents folders, so installing custom content is slightly more complicated (just slightly though). The good news is that if you know where to put the files then everything works. Basically what used to be in a subfolder in the Applications folder is now packaged inside the Neverwinter Nights 2.app itself. To see them you have to right click the application and select Show Package Contents. What used to be in the user Documents folder (which is where the override folder and nwncdkey.ini file were) is now in the user Library/Application Support/Neverwinter Nights 2 folder. The Library folder in Lion is hidden by default so the easiest way to navigate to it is to open the Terminal application and enter the command "open Library" (without the quotes).

Here are updated directions on how to copy MotB, SoZ, and MoW from a Windows installation (CD or Steam) to a Mac installation (CD or Mac App Store).

Instructions for getting the Neverwinter Nights 2 expansions (MotB and SoZ) and the Adventure Pack MoW to work on Mac (CD or Mac App Store installation):
Last updated by Brendan Bellina aka Kaldor Silverwand Nov 24, 2011

Any use of these instructions is at the user's risk.

Original threads:
<http://nwn2forums.bi...2567&forum=139>
<http://nwn2forums.bi...orum=139&sp=15>
<http://nwn2forums.bi...orum=139&sp=60>

Installation of MotB and/or SoZ:

Requires:

Mac installation of:
- Standard Mac NWN2 OC installation from Disk with 1.23 patch <http://support.aspyr...article/000602>
or
- NWN2 Installation from Mac App Store

- Windows installation (Bootcamp or VM) of MotB and/or SoZ accessible from Mac OS X

Using a Steam Windows install as the source:
When using a Windows Steam install as the source (rather than an install from original game disks) the source folders are named differently:
References to "C:\\Program Files\\Atari\\Neverwinter Night 2\\Campaigns\\Neverwinter Nights 2 Campaign\\" and its subfolders would on Steam be folder "C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\neverwinter nights 2\\Campaigns\\Neverwinter Nights 2 Campaign\\" and its subfolders.
The Modules folder for Steam is "C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\neverwinter nights 2\\Modules".

Using the Mac App Store version as the target:
This works when using the Mac App Store as a target but the folders are named differently than they would be if applying to a version installed from originals disks:
References to the Applications/Neverwinter Nights/ folder and its subfolders would for the Mac App Store version be Neverwinter Nights.app/Contents/ which can be accessed by right (or control) clicking the Neverwinter Nights 2.app icon and selecting Show Package Contents from the context menu.
References to the Users/[username]/Documents/Aspyr/Neverwinter Nights 2/ folder and its subfolders would for the Mac App Store version be Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Neverwinter Nights 2/. If the Library folder is hidden (by default on Lion) then the easiest way to navigate to this folder is to launch the Terminal.app utility and type the command "open Library" (without the quotes) which will open a Finder window.

Important Note:
Unless you install the Mac App Store version the NWN2 OC CD will still be required to be in the drive in order to play, even though it is not required when playing on Windows.

(MotB and SoZ instructions adapted from Rhistin's instructions)

Step one: don't get lost with the two Data folders
The Mac-side, holds a (first) Data folder, containing a (second) Data folder. For clarity, I keep on adding (first) and (second) throughout these instructions.

Step two: File copying from the PC-side to the Mac-side.

Copy both Ambient_X1 and Ambient_X2 folders to the (first) Data Folder.
Copy both Neverwinter Nights 2 Campaign_X1 and Neverwinter Nights 2 Campaign_X1 folders to the Campaigns folder in the (first) Data folder.
Copy the following from/to the (second) Data folder:
- 2DA_X1.zip
- 2DA_X2.zip
- Actors_v103x1.zip
- Actors_X1.zip
- Actors_X2.zip
- AnimTags_X1.zip

Copy the complete content of/to the Movies folder

Copy both Music_X1 and Music_X2 folders to the (first) Data Folder.
Copy the UI folder from/to the UI folder in the (first) Data folder (replacing duplicates).
Copy the dialog.TLK file from PC to Mac side, replacing the old one.

Copy folders from Windows Program Files\\Atari\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\ into Mac Applications/Neverwinter Nights 2/Data/:
- portraits
- Documentation

Copy files from Windows Program Files\\Atari\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\ Localvault\\ into Mac Applications/Neverwinter Nights 2/Data/Localvault/:
- All ".bic" files

Step three: Updating registration keys

Open in TextEdit the file Windows Program Files\\Atari\\Neverwinter Nights 2\\nwncdkey.ini and copy the lines starting with "Key2=" and "Key3=" to the clipboard.
Append those lines to the file in Mac Users/[username]/Documents/Aspyr/Neverwinter Nights 2/nwncdkey.ini (if you installed NWN2 from the Mac App Store this would instead be the file Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Neverwinter Nights 2/nwncdkey.ini).

Kaldor thanks for your write up it worked almost flawlessly. The only issue I had was the key for MoWG was held in my My Documents/NWN2 folder in a file called westgate.ini. I had to rename the file westgate.key to get this to work. Aside from that I can say this works perfectly with the MAC App store version.
One thing to note (and this was really strange) my saved games from windows loaded up fine. 1 game from Mask of the Betrayer loads but all PCs and NPCs are invisible. Other games from MotB load and run fine. Quite strange but not really a problem for me.

I'll post that here for futur help, if someone have the same problem as me and try to google it :)

I have the appstore version of the game. Everything given here to install the extensions seems to work flawlessly. But I have two video cards installed, an nvidia 7300 and a radeon 5870. The game wouldn't let me choose a higher setting than 1024. Worst, when I tried lower resolution, it wouldn't revert back to a higher one, I ended up at 800x600 ...
Aspyr technical support was no help, as they only told me to try to force it by double clicking the game icon while holding apple key, but that didn't do anything on the appstore version ...

So, to make it short, I had to :

Download the DVD version on a torrent with a no cd or borrow the dvd from a friend

Install the DVD version

Update it to last patch (available on Aspyr website)

Get your own serial from the appstore by opening the nwncdkey.ini in text edit from user/library/application support/neverwinter night 2 folder (to see library folder hold down the alt key while clicking on the "go" menu)

Launch the DVD version with apple key hold down.

There's a window where you can choose the monitor (if you have multiple) and the resolution
Do the correct settings in this.

Then Just launch the appstore version, those settings from the dvd version while be the same in the appstore version.

thats really strange, they don't even store their prefs in the same place, so I assume Aspyr have something installed somewhere without us knowing it that also store those prefs :).

Hope this will help someone :)

Thanks for the detailed post! Unfortunately, I don't have a Windows installation of NWN available, have just recently bought NWN2 from Macgames and would very much like to play MoW.

Is there any way to install it without the installed windows version of NWN2?

Ranger Solo indicated at the nwn2mac forum  that there is some way to extract the files from the exe file, but I haven't seen any instructions.

OK for the life of me I could have sworn I could get at the files of the MoW.exe.

There are some other .exe's I can do but not MoW. Unless I misread something.

Anyway, Cantello check your PM.

Thanks a lot for the walkthrough.

It works great for me with a slight glitch:
everytime I launch the game it overwrites my PC original CD Key with the one from the Mac App Store. I'd prefer to keep my original CD Key as I use it for some Persistent World but I suppose I will have to switch to the new one.

Great thread, thanks for all the work. Tried it with the app store version of NWN2 and it works very well, except that there is no music playing. I have placed all files and folders exactly as specified within the app's package contents, but no music.

Did anyone else have that problem? Any ideas how to fix that would be greatly appreciated.

Found it out by myself and posting it, so that other people with the app store version can apply it to their installation.

All the music files must be placed inside the general "music" folder in the (first) Data folder. No external "Music_X1" or "Music_X2" folders as specified in the extended instructions above. Works like a charm now.

Happy adventuring y'all.

My instructions say that you copy the Music_X1.zip and Music_X2.zip files into the second Data folder (which is also where Music.zip is). You copy the Music_X1 and Music_X2 folders into the first Data folder (which is also where the Music folder is). I don't know why the music files would need to be inside the Music folder on Mac when they are not on Windows.

I can't tell you that. All I can say is that by following the instructions as quoted, the music won't play (in the app store version at least).

Moving all the music files into the "Music" folder solved the problem for me. Music's still playing fine.

Well, it wouldn't be the first bug unique to the Mac App Store version. Thanks for posting the work-around.

After looking at my latest free space I have on my 250GB drive. I don't have so much left now. Is it possible to play the Mac app version of NWN2 on an external drive? I tried the original DVD version this way and because of the document folder loader restrictions it can't play unless all the files are there. In the documents folder of the OS hard drive. I much rather have my games on an external drive like I can with NWN. Hell even though I still need the discs for BG2 and IWD I can and have installed them to my external drive to play.

Any info on this would be great.

The App Store installer will try to install it in your Applications folder on your internal drive, but I have tested dragging it to an external drive and it runs from there fine.  I doubt an App Store update would work though, if there will be any (which I also doubt).

As for being disk free, I achieved that by buying the DnD Anthology at GamersGate for $20 and installing all of the games BG, BG2, IWD, IWD2, ToEE, and PS:T in Wineskins. Direction in this blog post.

Using the app stopre version I got all expansions and MoWG installed. Upon playing MoWG in the East Market I enter a tower. Inside the tower I can hear voices but not see anyone including myself. All of the interior doorways are blacked out including the exit. Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Thanks for all of this. I'm running the AppleStore NWN2 1.23 version like a charm, with no disc. And planning to buy and get the expansions working later.

I picked up NWN2 mac version on sale this week for $0.99 and wanted to check it out on my Mac. I already have a couple windows copies and the windows expansions, so I checked this thread out and figured I'd set up the Mac version to work with the expansions.

Unfortunately, I'm having no luck so far. I've followed the above instructions as close as possible 2 times and get the same result - crash to desktop whenever I try to start a new campaign. Specifically, it happens right at the time when the "create/select character" screen would pop up (and does for me on windows with the "same" set of files).

There's one problem I have with the above instructions - the file "Templates_X1_v122.zip" doesn't exist in my windows install. I find this odd, as it works fine for me, but no one here has mentioned this, so what's up with that? I'm wondering if this is what's causing my crash, but, again, it works under windows..

I'm trying to pull the aforementioned torrents, but there aren't very many seeders..

So -

#1 - does everyone else have this file? Why would I not? Could someone send me it so I could check whether that's the problem?

#2 - has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions?

Thanks!
