I'm on an imac using snow leopard 10.6.8 (I don't want to use Lion because a lot of my games and programs will no longer work). I have the boxed dvd and my game is updated to 1.23.1765. I have Motb, Soz, and Sow installed (with much thanks to all the people who helped me!) and I download Raider from the Vault (a few times).

I have a 10.6.8 bootable Macmini with NWN2 on it so I can try to mimic your system other than the video card.

My saved game is 72.4 megs which can be segmented and I can stuff or zip it, whichever you prefer. Where should I send it?

Zip is probably better. I use Keka and I'm not sure it handles Stuffit properly. Try sending to bbellina@alumni.nd.edu. I'm not sure what the my attachment limit is.

Btw, kevL and Kaldor, would either of you be interesed in becoming a member of AME (Golden Dragon Awards)? It takes very little time and we need some new blood!

I'll think about it. Most of my free time is spent these days on SWTOR, not so much on NWN2.

I'll use WinZip Mac and I can break it up into folders to send separately since it's all loose in the folder. I'll break it up into a few zips, then you just have to throw them all into the same folder. Thanks so much for taking this on! I invested a lot of time in the first 3 chapters lol!

Btw, what is SWTOR?

I just looked in the saved game and the size is due to one file that zipped comes to over 32 megs! I'm going to try to send you 2 zips; one has most of the saved game and the larger one just has to be placed into that folder. I hope it'll go through!

Ok, I can only send up to 25 megs on gmail, but I was able to send that one large file to my google drive. I have never used this before, but I think you'll get an email with a link to download it as I put it up to share. If this doesn't work I'll have to find a way to segment that one file. Please let me know if you have any problems getting it! I emailed the rest of the save to you.

Thanks again!

Karen :)

I think that would be a great idea, and you're quite welcome. :)

Star Wars The Old Republic. It is a free to play MMORPG that has been out for a little more than a year. Written by Bioware so it has storylines for each of the classes as well as the standard collection of missions/quests. And like NWN2 you have companions that accompany you (only one active at time though). No modding for it but fun to swing a lightsaber and shoot lightning.  I have a Jedi who wields two blue lightsabers and looks just like a well known Drow. If you like Star Wars let me know and I'll send you an invite (if you later decide to become a monthly subscriber I'll get some credit for it.)

I was able to recover the saved game and load it up on my Macmini.  I didnt have any problem although it was much longer to load and save than I was expecting. I'm not sure why.  My guess is that for some reason the areas in the campaign require either a lot of RAM or a lot of temp disk space or possibly both.

It doesn't take that long to load on my computer, but loading wasn't the problem. I was able to start from an older saved game, finished up in the tomb, fought some elves outside the tomb, then tried to go back to town to get to the end of chapter. The transition won't work and I get that error message and dumped to the load game screen - not the desktop. I can't get to the next chapter unless I can get back to town and hand in the tome.

The save I sent you in the town worked though, right?

Sorry - I haven't had a chance to try it yet. RL got crazy - our landlord is offering us good money to move out and we're house hunting.

Last year my landlord did the same, without the offer of any money though. He gave us 3 months notice. Which, to be fair, is what I would have given him if I intended to move out.  Happy house hunting.

Can they just throw you out without a reason like that? Landlords can't do that in NYC! In any case, we have a rent control apartment in a coop building and they want to sell the last 3 apartments they own. I'll try to get back to the campaign as soon as I can!

I didn't challenge it. We had an annual renewal that said that either he or I could give 3 months notice. It worked out in the end and we own a house now, but it was a stressful period and we did have to temporarily move into  a friend's backhouse.  Good luck.  No hurry on the campaign. Let me know if you were able to retrieve the save file though so I can delete it from Google Docs.

Sorry, I should have made that clear. I downloaded the saved game - thank you so much! Please feel free to delete it. And congratulations on the house. Hopefully, I'll be able to say the same thing soon lol!

The news isn't good! I finally got a chance to load the game and the first time I got a message "had trouble loading module." The 2nd time it just dumped me to the desktop. The third time I got an error message "could not load module." It starts to load, gets almost all the way to loading, then stops. Any suggestions? If it's memory, I don't know what else I can do.

Kaldor, thanks again for trying to help!

Sorry to hear the save isn't working. I can see from other posts that the author is trying to figure out what is causing the memory usage to be so high. I haven't played the campaign that far myself so I don't have any ideas that wouldn't require you starting over again. If the 12x12 outdoor area is the culprit then perhaps that could be reduced in size without sacrificing gameplay.

Unless Darin compresses the files in some way I don't think restarting would help at all. I remember chap. 2 as being a memory hog too, but I was able to play though. To be honest, I don't know if I even want to start over - the puzzles killed me lol! I'll wait and see if he comes up with a work around. Thanks again for all the help - I really had hoped I'd be able to start from your save, but it looks like that's not possible.

Have a great summer!

Kaldor, did you ever play Tears of Ilmarid? If so, I'd appreciate some help (for a change lol). I loved the first chapter but my computer is not recognizing that the second chapter is installed and will only let me go to chap. 1 again. Do you have any idea why?

Karen,

I see that you had this problem back with Tears in 2011 and never got a response and at the time thought that it might be related to the lengths of the module names. I'm not familiar with these length limitations on the Mac. What information can you provide on that? Do all files have to be less than some maximum length? Haks, modules, scripts, 2da files, etc.? Are there instructions posted somewhere for hat steps can be taken to address this in a campaign?

I was getting help from the creator, but he hasn't been around since the major problems in Japan a while back. As far as I know, mac file names can't be over 32 characters but I'm not exactly sure. I know with sims 1 files 28-29 letters work best but I don't know how much help that is with NWN2.

And I think I have my memory problem is solved. I'm upgrading to 16 gigs, hopefully this week. Now I should be able to finish Tomes and do Crimmor - at least I hope so!

Btw, I just left you a message about the wizard's apprentice III - I can't find the link to the discussion about making chap. 2 mac friendly and he needs the info to fix chap. 3 because it isn't working on my mac either. I do love my mac, but it's a pain sometimes with games!

I just dug up my old CD copy of NWN 2 and I was excited to try this out. But I've faced a problem. I can't actually download the files! All of the download links are broken, and nobody is seeding the torrents, can anyone help me out in this regard?

Thanks,
TPW

EDIT: To clarify, I meant SOZ and MOTB, gotta get those working before the other stuff :D.

Frosty - the discussion about the hak issue with Wizard's Apprentice II is here. We got a workaround but never determined why the combination of a couple of areas plus a hak files caused the Mac version to crash.

PizzaWarden - I know that some people used to post the files for MotB and SoZ since there are no Mac versions, but that was never legitimate and I'm not surprised they don't work anymore. JapansRobo posted them on dropbox but those links broke quite a while ago. I personally always found that running NWN2 on Windows using Bootcamp was less problematic and more functional. If you have Windows XP or Windows 7 already then you can lilkely buy the Windows version of NWN2 with the expansions for less than what that NWN2 CD cost you.

Thanks Kaldor! Matthew figured it out and put up a no hak mac version of chapter 3 which works. I just wish there was some definitive answer so all the campaigns would work on macs! Of course, the people making them would have to be willing to go out of their way to make it work for us - and, thankfully, some of them do just that!
