Because dragons and spells are realistic, right?

Ninja jumping dragons and mages certainly aren't.

Maybe fantasy is the wrong genre for you.

Well, the demo was easy on purpose, as it was in 'legend' Hawke mode. It isn't like the entire game is going to be hack and slash ZOMG easy.

I'm talking about the FX from the talent moves.

I wasn't addressing anyone specifically.

In DA2 you will activate an ability and your character will charge/dash/ninja jump and use the ability on said foe.

It looks ridiculous.

I like ridiculous.  As I favor melee combat and find spell casting/ranged combat boring, I will enjoy my character doing some crazy heroic acrobatics/feats of strength.  Standing in one spot playing whack a mole isn't glorious combat. ;p

Just have to say this... but buy a different game then.  There are plenty of twich fest action games out there... DA doesn't need to be added to the list.  Especially since there are so few tactical RPG's anymore, or RPG's period.

DA2 isn't a twitch action fest game.  Read BioWare posts.

I really just want to see the demo in action. I was hoping there would have been a video on the blog or on youtube. either way I have faith it will be good. I mean DAO is my favorite game of all time.

FX talents make the game look like a hack and slash.  One is a downward stab to the ground, the enemy if close to death then explodes to pieces.

Look... if I can near instantly reposition my tank without running / moving time delays from where he is fighting to my mage/healer then it is twitch based. If I can spam all of my area of effect spells as a mage within 10 ingame seconds the game is twitch based. I dont' care that I have the ability to pause the action, if they reduce the amount of time it takes to complete said action, you don't even need to take the timing/flow of battle in to accound.

DA had 'ninja jumps' too. The Ogre finishing move, for example. You can have a tactical RPG that looks cool too.

Ugh...In Origins I was ok with some of the over the top blood and gore because it made sense in context- you cast Walking Bomb, it makes sense that the guy will explode into giblets. But stabbing someone and causing them to explode? Huh?

I'm concerned the gore and blood will make this game more unintentionally hilarious than Origins with the goofy blood splatter in conversations.

But DA1 was like that as well. I could literally do fireball, blizzard, and earthquake in around 10 seconds, reposition my tank quite easily, etc. Or is that the point you are tryin to make?

Exactly! I was hoping we could cut pieces of them, not make them explode sending pieces flying in the air. Especially not for a one handed warrior.

Another move allows you to slide (extremely fast) in a fiery streak towards your enemy to strike.

as I stated in an earlier post, and as discussed on the dragon age podcast, they are making it so you can re-position your tank to a new target faster, so when I used to have to, somewhat laboriously run if I needed my tank to pull agro off my mage, taking damage the whole way there, now I can zip over, pound the dude that is attacking my mage in to the ground and zip back to where I was. I find this less strategic, as I used to have to worry about my tank positioning and manage my mages aggro, now it doesn't matter so much.

Also, as discussed in the podcast, there are no longer "casting times" for the area of effect spells. so I can literally cast my frost AOE, pause, cast Fire AOE, Pause, cast electric AOE within "no time" in game, just one action after the other. It used to be offset by cast times, so it was not instantaneous.

There could be universal cooldowns though for certain types of abilities. I doubt they would wreck balance so carelessly.

I really never used to worry about my tank's aggro, tbh, and that too on the console version, where positioning is so annoying.

Another called whirlwind, I can't remember what that looked like. It was different than the rogue version in DAO

That doesn't sound so bad. It isn't as over-the-top as some of the Awakening talents.

Double ugh... I'm hoping the over the top effects are just for the over the top "legendary" parts of the game. I liked it in Origins how the talent abilities weren't so in your face and generally made sense. It always bugged me with Awakening with something like Massacre- "So my Warden screams really loud and kills everything around him?"

My impression is that they're going with more ridiculous stuff to make it more visually "cool" but it just ends up coming off as goofy and over the top. I mean it might make sense for a guy to blow up if stabbed with some sort of enchanted sword maybe, but why a normal sword? <_<

So they made the console versions more of an action-RPG. I don't see the problem. I thought the console ports were terrible, PC-style gameplay should never be emulated on a console. They are keeping the PC version mostly the same as Origins, no?

I will most likely play both versions, if they are indeed as different as they seem.
