So they made the console versions more of an action-RPG. I don't see the problem. I thought the console ports were terrible, PC-style gameplay should never be emulated on a console. They are keeping the PC version mostly the same as Origins, no?

I will most likely play both versions, if they are indeed as different as they seem.

You see thats where they lose me, or for a better word - confuse me.
I'v never heard of any company doing two versions on a singleplayer game, especially combat.
So either BW is going that exstra mile for everyone, or something is yet to be revealed. Muuuahah. :P

I'd like to think they go the exstra mile. But what do i know, nothing. xD

I don't think the changes will be that drastic tbh.

Don't get me wrong, I had fun playing the demo.  It stopped right when it was getting good. :pinched:  Just something things looked out of place. Of course their target demographic playing the same time I did ate it up.

Kind of similar to the 1UP, IGN and joystiq impressions, but there you have it.

It seems to me the only cricitism there is about combat and we've already been told combat will be different on the consoles to the PC which will largely be unchanged but with some tweaks..

Yeah well I hardly think they're going to lie about something fundamental like that.

FX talents make the game look like a hack and slash.  One is a downward stab to the ground, the enemy if close to death then explodes to pieces.

That's not even silly. that's idiotic.
Perhaps we should stop pretending that DA2 isn't trying to compete with Diablo 3 in the minds of people responsible for this?

At least they have an excuse for the over-the-top action, the fact that its really a story being told, and exaggerated, by one of Hawke's allies.

It's not that far fetched. They'll have different teams working on the different platform versions anyway, and they have the mechanics for the PC combat already coded into the engine. They'll have the console teams add in the new console combat, have the PC teams tweak and add to the PC combat, and share the rest of the assets between all versions.

Combat now feels like an action RPG that is more similar to that of a Lord of The Rings game than Baldur’s Gate. While the skill/inventory wheel still exists and you can pause the  action to assess your battle options, fans of a pure RPG style of gameplay will likely be put off by this change. At the same time, this combat  system may bring in those gamers who like a little more control over  their character during combat rather than relying on the random roll of  the dice. You’ll still be able to jump between your party members and  control them.

Damn you action gamer noobs! You've dumbed down my game!!!!Posted Image

The console version has always been an dumb down version of the pc one so....  + the already said that the pc combat will remain the same.

exactly I really don't see what the problems is... tweaking the combat so it plays better on a console sounds like an good idea. Also the pc combat will remain the same as Origins so if u don't like the changes get the pc one. i think everyone is just over reacting and are still gonna buy the game when it comes out no matter what they say on the forums. Chill BioWare can careless what u say/think at this point since the majority of the people complaining prob haven't seen the game.

Obviously not.

Example: I'm male. I don't care at all for the direction the RPG is heading.

If I want to play a shooter type RPG I'll stick with Mass Effect.
If I want anime or idiotic twitchy asian style gameplay I'll play Ninja Gaiden or Bayonetta.

I don't understand why they thought changing a successful game (Dragon Age - Traditional RPG gameplay) into a reskinned clone of one of their other games (Mass Effect - Emphasis on combat over traditional RPG gameplay) was a good idea.

Further they went and removed the player's choice regarding their character. I don't want to be forcefed a protagonist when it comes to a traditional RPG. I don't care to level up someone else's character when I play RPGs and this is what it feels like by having a set in stone protagonist.

I would have pre-ordered it if they left the game alone but with these hiddeous changes it isn't happening. I'll have to rent it first before I decide to fork over $60.

As an aside, the console tweaks vs the pc pisses me off from a collection standpoint. If I hate the control scheme of the console I have to buy the PC version. The original was purchased for the console so to have the set I'm either forced to buy a dumbed down version or not have the set. :pinched:

Way to screw over your fans for the casual gamer that just wants to mash buttons and not think.

Dude.

The children who were born when the post you respond there was written are now taking their first steps and tasting their first paps. My best friend got married and Rotten Tomatoes aborted.

Seriously, what's the point of "joining" a dead and buried discussion as if it's still going on or something?

Somebody wanted a damned dialouge wheel? Less options?
These must have been fans in another forums, never saw it here.
Perhaps someone is mistaking "audience" for "guys from the marketing"..

Actually, about 80% of the changes are things I was encouraging and/or speculating about more than six months before Origins even came out.  The rest are cosmetic.

FIGHT LIKE A SPARTAN. EVERYTIME YOU PUSH A BUTTON SOMETHING AWESOME SHOULD HAPPEN. THESE ARE THE NEW DESIGN PARADIGMS THAT WILL PROPEL THE GAMING INDUSTRY TO HOLLYWOOD LEVEL INFAMY AND SOCIAL PERVASIVENESS.

I WANT BIOWARE TO GIVE ME RACING STRIPE TATTOO OPTIONS. BUT NOT JUST TATTOO OPTIONS, I WAN THE ABILITY TO HAVE RACING STRIPE DECALS AND FLAME DECALS THAT CAN BE PUT ON THE EXTERIOR OF MY ARMOR TO EITHER MAKE ME GO FASTER OR INCREASE MY AWESOME QUOTIENT.

*Cover ears* No reason to yell!!

Anyhow....

Why did Bioware make these changes? The designers stated that these moves were made in direct response to the comments from the fans and reviews of the original title. It’s good to see Bioware listens to its audience, but it may have misunderstood why some people enjoyed the first game so much. Especially when it comes to creating a unique protagonist.

This!
