Hey everyone I'm True Zarken
I have a question that needs answering because if I hear my girl friend ask it one more time my head is going to explode =P Anyway...
What she wants to know is will we ever see Dark Elves, or Drow, or even slightly dark skinned elves in the Dragon Age series?
Thank you in advance.
True Zarken
I can't believe I am asking this...

Maybe. There's a lot of Thedas that we haven't seen yet, so it's possible that a Drow-like race of Elves could exist. I won't say "Yes", though. Tell her to go back to reading Drizzt and the War of the Spider Queen series

Could be some half Qunari half Elf breed somewhere in the DA universe, so possibly?

There already are "slightly dark skinned elves" in Dragon Age: Origins. One that comes to mind is Adaia, who has something of a cameo (assuming it's THE Adaia...City Elves should know who that is) in the Leliana's Song DLC.

This isn't D&D, influences aside...

There is one right in Denerim's Market district. Just outside brother Genetive's house, with 2 humans.
none you can talk thought, that I'm pretty sure.

I like drow. But I like DROW drow, not prissy oh-look-at-my-chaotic-goodly-WANGST Drizzt drow. If something along those lines exists in Dragon Age--and I kind of hope they don't as I like to keep at least a semblence of separation between my fantasy fandoms--they'd better not resemble Drizzt.

What is it with this Drow fixation that everyone in the fricking world seems to have? Sure, Drow were an interesting race/culture, but there have been many interesting cultures to appear in fantasy and even rpgs over the years - but for whatever reason people get this Drow thing stuck in their teeth and can't get it out. The second you see an Elf or elf like creature in any game someone screams Drow ... not every world is Forgotten Realms! It just gives me such a headache.

There were dark skinned elves, but I don´t think that means anything other than different skin pigmentations.

elves make me sick, but dark elves make me wanna cut my wrists in despair
i hope we never get to see dark elves in dao and i hope something happens in DA2 that wipes them out.

Umm calm down? It was a simple question you don't need to come in and say how **** Drows are and how disgusting they make you feel. Not everyone has the same opinion as you, just because someone has a different opinion to you doesn't make it wrong. If you don't have anything positive to say don't say it at all.

Filetemo is entitled to have an opinion too. Dont flame him for telling it.
I agree with him though.

I am sorry if it came across that way I didn't intend to. I just don't get why someone would have such a deep dislike of a fictional race when it's just fiction.

You need to learn that on the internet people might have different opinions and if they do they might express them.

I've nothing against any of these popular races, but I was one that was a bit unhappy with Bio using the standard races of humans, dwarves, and elves for DA:O when they had the opportunity to do something very different. But, in the end, they struck a good balance with giving people something familiar with their own added twist. Likely, if they add anything similar to "drow", they'll do the same and make sure that people can't really relate them to D&D.

I'd prefer that they don't have drow elves.

I like the fact that there are no drow so far... I love playing a drow in D&D, but I don't want Thedas to feel too similar to D&D. In DAO, elves can be a wide range of colors already, especially if you use mods. That's just the way it is. So dark-skinned is already possible, but the existence of drow and dark elves who are special and different from normal elves is like a 99% improbability, I think.

I'm one of the folks that was already not too enthused about the 'standard' fantasy races being used in a new IP. Elementals and Weres and other critters were/are so much more interesting, to me, than our usual 'humans with pointy ears,' 'short humans,' and 'human humans.' But I still love and appreciate it for what it is -- now, anyway.
I'd cringe all the more, however, if a 'dark' race of elves were added. Alienage Elves and Dalish Elves, IMO, were the dividing line in elven culture and philosophy and way of life. So we already have 'two factions' of elves as is.

No thanks. Dark Elves annoy me to no end.

I actually like Dragon Age's "standered Fantasy setting." Blood Elves, Orcs, Night Elves, Dark Elves...Ugh, enough already! We have WoW for that.

Tell your "girlfriend" it seems unlikely if they haven't talked about them yet. From what I've heard most of the lore for DA has been set so adding in a whole another race would be a bit of a stretch.

I'd rather see more Qunaris.
