WHO TELLS YOU HAWKE JUST FLED. JESUS TAPDANCING CHRIST. Why do so many people assume that Hawke just said "boo hoo hoo, I don't even have my brown pants" and chickened out leaving the darkspawn to slaughter innocents. Maybe he fled carrying five disabled orphans on his shoulders. Maybe he fled after sweeping a box of kittens away from the darkspawn- and even if he (I am using exclusively the male pronoun out of laziness) did not commit some selfless act of heroism, it's not like dying in Lothering would have slowed down the darkspawn. The less people die, the better.

Also, even if he "fled the the Blight like a coward", surely to become Champion of Kirkwall and stuff he must be a pretty exceptional individual.

Also, food for thought, the Warden "fled" from Lothering as well. Does that make him/her a coward? Maybe Hawke too has something heroic to do in other places, just like the Warden.

Bravely bold Ser Hawke rode forth from Lothering.
He was not afraid to die, O brave Ser Hawke!
He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways,
Brave, brave, brave, brave Ser Hawke!

He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp,
Or to have his eyes gouged out, and his elbows broken;
To have his kneecaps split, and his body burned away;
And his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Ser Hawke!

His head smashed in and his heart cut out,
And his liver removed and his bowels unplugged,
And his nostrils raped and his bottom burned off,
And his pen--

People simply don't know the circumstances yet, and conjuring worst case scenarios is more fun to do on forums. :wizard:

Yeah I even heard some silly guys claiming players won't have choice of creating their own characters with unique backstories like they had in DAO with dwarfs and elves. Such silliness:wizard:

Some people just like to annoy other people.

I would have left too rather than being killed by darkspawn.

It doesn't matter what the circumstances were, fleeing the Blight is the PRUDENT thing to do. Anyone who says different is living in denial.

I know! Clearly any game that doesn't give you multiple origins and races is not an RPG, not a good story and doomed to failure. Crazy! What RPG does that, anyway?

Yeah, now they'll have to make do with creating their own character with a unique backstory like the did in DAO with a human. Times sure are tough.

He was actually kidnapped by a were-donkey and shipped to the Free Marches to be food for his were-donkey kin. However, Hawke escaped on the way by using his [class skill] to free himself from his bonds and diving from the deck of the prison ship and swimming to safety. To this day, were-donkey children are told this tale and cower in fear at the thought that one day, the man who became the Champion of Kirkwall will fall upon them from the east and wreak his brutal revenge.

True story.

I think your rebuttals are getting somewhat childish. Probably better than that nauseatingly haughty thread of yours that compelled me to write this one, though. "a name so common and boring it is almost insulting", am I correct?

It seems people already have their minds up that the way that Hawke leaves Lothering is very cowardly.

I think Hawkes escape from Lothering may have also been due to the responsibility of looking after his sister.

And Kordaris, why are you so determined to grace this forum with your negative posts? In the majority of threads I've looked at tonight I see your posts, and they don't ever seem to be constructive.

1) The Hawke the Coward theory has nothing to do with Lothering
2) Yeah, those stupid Wardens and soldiers sticking around to defend against the Blight. Man, what were they thinking...?

Dragon Age Origins was applauded as one of the first games to have "Origins" to this extent. If you actually agree with Gaider's sarcastic comment then you must not have enjoyed any RPG before Origins ever...

Truly a hardcore fan ;)

True, who could think that a game called Origins might have origins that were specific to Origins?

In other words-- I get the fact that you liked them, but the rage-flailing thing you're doing isn't exactly helping your case much. We're okay with having a single, solid opening to our story now that Origins has introduced our world. If you're absolutely not, and one story opening isn't going to cut it for you no sir, then there really isn't much more to talk about, is there?

Kordaris wrote...

We only require you to spend money on it if you intend to play.

If you don't intend to play our game, and wish to take your ball and go home-- okay! Totally fair. No money from you. That's how it works. If, however, you intend to barge into every thread and announce your beef no matter what the thread is discussing-- I'd ask you not to do that, unless you wish to be shown the door. That's rude.

I am sorry, truly, but I just cannot stand it when vexatious ignorance gets in the way of the facts. I can endure it for the first thirteen thousand times, but the thirteen-thousand-first time I heard Hawke being called a coward I just kind of snapped.

NWN2 introduced backgrounds with some sort of ingame effect already, DA1 took it to a new higher level, it was a terrible choice to take them out now instead of developing and improving it further

You have to admit... the name is... cheesy, predictable, pedantic and consistent with the fantasy milieu? It's like having a rogue character named Wolf... or Wulf, just to be different. This whole thing just stinks of ****ty marketing.
