Might have a crack at the Salarian female now, just to round things out.
Suggestions on what she might look like?

One of the Consort's acolytes in the first Mass Effect is a salarian. From a human perspective, she is identical to the males.

Well, you assume the consort only has women as her acolytes.

The, ah, rotund Salarian scares me. Which, considering they dominate all Salarian politics, is entirely appropriate. :P

The last picture makes me wonder whether I want to see your rendition of a quarian :)

If the idea of what My idea of a Quarian looks like is scary, then perhaps then a female Drell?

Maybe I should put together a faux issue of FORNAX!!! LOL

Wasn't really intending to do a series, but here's the Salarian female... she's sorta colored after Mordin and sorta not.
I am guessing from the various in-game comments, Salarians don't actually engage in intercourse? More of a spawning thing with the female laying eggs and the male fertilizing them.

I liked Mordin... he was entertaining - only people to give him a run for most amusing are the two in the engineering section.

I absolutely love this!

Thought I'd try an alternate version of the female Salarian...

"Well hiya there Mr Shepard, wanna spawn?"

The way Salarians talk about mating and female Salarians, I always did get that "Broodmother" vibe.

@tmk - working on a female Drell right now... hard to keep her alien and not "humanize" her too much, since Drell have VERY human bodies - might be unsafe for work! lol

@Just_mike - Why? Should they be? There's nothing "showing".

Did occur to me that the second salarian concept looks like it'd be kind of hard on the leg joints to move around that much mass. Did I see on your website that you described the first as a normal female and the second as a "spawning" female? :)

Laying a clutch of eggs, makes me wonder if they have incubate them or if they can just lay the eggs, orchestrate the male fertilization, then go about their business until the eggs are ready to hatch.

I used a reference of a VERY large female human who had an enormous body and tiny feet - so it's not that inconcieveable!!!

Yes, I would say that at spawning time, the female Salarian egg production goes into overdrive and she spawns the eggs externally which are then fertilized by the male(s) with the best family breeding records (Ala ME2 side quest about finding the Salarian's family breeding history). No incubation needed but environmental conditions must be just right.

I think then that part of the breeding negotiations must include a male salarian who is prepared to message her feet and ankles at the end of each day then. :P

I don't know if it's fan speculation or if it's actually in the codex that all reproduction was external like that. Tempted to think it's the latter, but too lazy to go look on the ME Wiki and find out. Do know that when salarians hatch, they imprint, so the mother is present with a select few members of the family.

Ok, so here is another concept that will probably have everyone going wtf?!?!?

It's My interpretation of a female Quarian. :wizard:

I had a few goals in creating her, the main one was not to simply to a human with wierd hands and feet.
Nothing has annoyed Me more than the lack of imagination, creativity and actual "surprise" in the versions I have seen drawn by other artists so far.
I considered that as Quarians almost their entire lives in those suits, their skin would be pale, waxy and somewhat translucent.
Tried to keep her as "attractive" as possible for humans! (All those Tali fans out there are having a heart attack about now! LOL)
I also wanted to get a little more H.R. Giger into the ME universe!

So without further ado, here is the censored version:

I have no doubt she'll look "human" when they finally do reveal her.

Almost have the female Drell finished.

I'm ok with this  *Saved*
I really like what you did here, much more "alien" looking than other drawings I
have seen. And thank God, another artist who didn't use elf ears

You know, I actually saw someone give her "Jar Jar Binks" type big floppy ears that sort of folded over her head and were hidden by her "hood"... looked damn silly!

That was one of the more confused couple of pages I've seen on that Tali thread. Do they like it? Can they say they hate it, knowing that the artist is right there reading? :P

I, for one, think it's one of the best interpretations of the quarians that I've seen. But you know how I feel the more alien the better.

Also, Grunt mentions quarians aren't as soft as humans, asari, and salarians, but not as hardy as turians. This fits the bill, I think, as it looks like they have a very dense muscular structure.

If Harbinger sticks around the battlefield long enough, he'll start trash talking about your squadmates. One comment he makes about quarians is that he finds their cybernetic enhancements promising, but canceled out by their immune system issues. So the image gives me the impression of cybernetics to a degree.

The eyes I've been thinking about for awhile. It seems we either get the completely white with a slight shine, or they're humans eyes with a slight shine. I'm not sure what sort of eyes I'm looking for, bioluminescent or highly reflective. I am reminded of when I dissected a cow eye and you get to the choroid that reminds me almost of the inside of a mussel shell or light shining on motor oil. The material covering that part of the eye is what causes animals eyes to glow when light shines in them at night.

And if anyone thinks this image is too alien for a quarian, they should have heard what my friend was saying while looking at the image behind my back. Because of the location of the light on the quarian helmet and the design of the geth, he feels the mouth is actually where we have our chins. Like Greedo in Star Wars. I looked at him and said "That would be the most maligned interpretation of a quarian ever."

I was thinking about the eyes and I have to say, that for them to "shine" through that faceplate that obscures almost every other feature, they have to be really luminous! (Either that or there is something like a black light shining on them to make them glow like a white t-shirt in a nightclub! lol)

Was considering adding some cybernetics, but thought I'd just go with biomechanical - the cybernetics are just so well implanted.

I made her lips slightly leonine, but had to be careful to keep her face "alien" or else she started looking like a damn furry!

OK folks, here's the last one (Unless BIOWARE wants to start paying Me to do more concept art! hint hint! LOL)

It's the DRELL female and probably the most boring to draw form wise as she's soooooooo damn human.
Tried to keep the standard breast "bumps" but make them non-human in appearance. Why oh why oh why does almost every single alien female have to have human breasts? Ugh.
I contemplated going with all sorts of fins and bumps and things but Thane is pretty damn human overall, so really kept her pretty much the same as him, with a more feminine quality.
I'm sure I could do more with the "scales" on the rest of her body (to match her head a bit more).
However, I also thing Male and Female drell are pretty similar looking.

Because the artists keep drawing them for no reason? :P Seriously, your version has no reason to have the "bumps" at all since she doesn't even have any nipples. The overall figure (wider hips/narrower shoulders) and facial features could still give enough hints without having to lampshade it by adding breasts where they make no sense.

Like the face though.

I agree with him. She's a good-looking Drell, but being reptilian-like (I can't remember, did they say 'reptilian-like mammals' or just 'reptilian-like'?), she wouldn't need breasts to begin with. SOE devs seem to be the only ones who have gotten it right. Neither Iksar, Froglok, nor Sarnak females have breasts or any structures resembling breasts. Because they are not mammals.

Sorry, that's a bit of a sore spot with me *blushes*.

How can this be the end of your series? We need a Batarian, Elchor, Vorcha & Hanar!!

I like these overall. Some of them could have been a little more surprising though. Some aliens might have females that look JUST like the males, but why couldnt other species have females that look far different? Sexual Dimorphism!

As for the Quarian, great work! A couple things I'd say though:

Quarian suits appear to be very skin tight, so the ridges and indentations you included seem unlikely to be accurate, unless they are just surface details.

Secondly, the lion lip thing: Isn't Tali's nose visible in her character model? I am pretty sure that she has a very human looking nose/upper lip area, but the idea of a crazy looking mouth is has potential.
