hmm... so krogan are lizards, garus is a bird, liara a cuttlefish (squid, octopus, etc.) what are quarians, cats or elves or something? 3 fingers/toes, I thought they were another lizard type, or highly evolved goat/pig...

Sheppard could never physically romance (None of that vitrual cyber touchy touchy) a Volus anyway - he'd either be crushed or they'd explode! LOL

Oh, but wouldn't that be an even more tragic love story than a human and quarian? Quarians can take a bunch of antibiotics for an evening. The love for a volus will never exist past the suit. Plus, you know, squat things you know it's certainly not beauty that's the attraction.

Think turians are more like the dinosaur/bird missing link. Quarians? Well, they don't have any insects for pollenation on their homeworld. I imagined quarians having very fine cilia all over their body that collects and disperses pollen. Oh, and almond-shaped bug eyes.

Perhaps they have no flowers and everything is wind pollenated?

OK Here's My first attempt at a Volus Female.
Here is My concept of a Volus female - a species that evolved in a high
pressure environment with an alien atmosphere. Therefore the species has
evolved a strong exoskeleton with a bare minimum of exposed flesh only
at a minimum of necessary joints. Their internal organs all exert an outward
force, helping to support the exoskeleton and resist the high pressure
of their world. Under such constant intense pressure, their exoskeletions frequently crack Volus skeletons are constantly growing.

In a human safe atmosphere, the Volus must wear pressure suits or they would depressurize - exploding from the inside out.
Female Volus have concave torso's and male Volus have convex torsos.
The pressure suits that Volus wear are designed to roughly mimic standard humanoid features to facilitate easier communication with the other sentient races.

This design is a bit more "Me" than the other ones I've done so far, since there was only the exo-suit proportions to work from.

If you want to check out the "entire set" so far - Krogan, Turian, Quarian, Drell, Volus - you can either check out the earlier posts in this thread, or watch the slideshow on My blog http://sashaburrow.blogspot.com :wizard:

I always imagined the Quarians looking somewhat like the Protoss, having very gracile and slender features.

This is Selendis, a female Protoss from StarCraft II.

Ok, so here is another concept that will probably have everyone going wtf?!?!?

It's My interpretation of a female Quarian. :wizard:

I had a few goals in creating her, the main one was not to simply to a human with wierd hands and feet.
Nothing has annoyed Me more than the lack of imagination, creativity and actual "surprise" in the versions I have seen drawn by other artists so far.
I considered that as Quarians almost their entire lives in those suits, their skin would be pale, waxy and somewhat translucent.
Tried to keep her as "attractive" as possible for humans! (All those Tali fans out there are having a heart attack about now! LOL)
I also wanted to get a little more H.R. Giger into the ME universe!

So without further ado, here is the censored version:

Looks almost like the licker from resident evil 2

Appropriate considering the artist said she was going H. R. Giger and that alien from Species was designed by H. R. Giger.

I've got to say, I really like that female quarian design. Yeah, it is a liitle Sil-ish, but that's no bad thing at all. Giger's a genius, so any creature design homage to him as well-executed as that is a good thing, plus it integrates the cybernetic element of the race in a more asthetically-pleasing way than just having the dreaded poking-out-inplants look that is seriously cliched now.

Yep - like it a lot, actually. If Tali looked like that, I'd romance her more ;)

Awesome thread.

I love your interpretation of what some of the alien females should look like, particularly the Krogan and Turians. Also it seems like you've put some thought into why they should look a certain way from an evolutionary perspective, which seems to be rare in the fanart community. A quick search for an unmasked Tali on deviantart for example, reveals mostly humans with exotic skin tones or space elves. Kudos for actually making the Quarians look alien, as they should.

This is probably my favorite rendition of what a female Quarian (aka Tali) looks like:

Posted Image

I'm not sure about the four nostrils, or whether her skin tone is necessarily purple (the purple hue could just be coming from her visor), but the artist did a very good rendition of a Quarian that looks alien but is still beautiful in it's own way. And like it or not, Quarian females should be at least somewhat pleasing to the human eye, since Bioware unfortunately decided to  make Tali a romance option for male Shepard. I also liked that the artist, like the OP, gave her the white, almost luminous eyes that we can see through her visor. If Tali was given eyes that look like human eyes, it would be a retcon of what we can actually see through that visor.
