I've seen a lot of people fixated on certain aspects of the story, or supposed changes in the mechanics of the game itself, but for me the most interesting thing about this sequel is the fact that it takes place over a period of ten years.  Of particular interest to me was the post David Gaider recently made which included

Was the combat we showed in the demo over the top? Certainly. As we've
mentioned elsewhere, that part of the tale is a brief glimpse at the
"exaggerated" legend of Hawke-- he kills monsters with a single
stroke, slicing each one in two with a single slice of his sword, and
farts lightning bolts out of his ass.

Now, to me, this sounds like the story MIGHT be told in a manner similar to the Wuxia film Hero, which I would find extremely interesting.  I believe I've heard something about the story being told between a Dwarf who travelled with Hawke for some time and a Chantry Inquisitor - I would love to see an interplay of 'what everyone says happened', 'what the Dwarf says happened', and 'what really happened'.  In my opinion, games don't play around with narrative structure enough.  Recently, Alpha Protocol told a story through flashbacks, which I enjoyed quite a bit simply for the novelty, and I'm hoping DA2 is told in a similarly unique manner.

What do you guys think?  It'll be a traditional narrative?  Do you want it to be different?  Or does no one but me care about these sort of things, so long as the game behind it is functional?

Hero was a very fun movie and I greatly enjoyed it.

As a way to tell a video game story, sounds completely annoying to me.

I'm thinking Aladdin, the disney movie. Guy walks in, guy talks about an old tale and wonders if people know what really happened, guy tells story, and at the end of the third movie that was direct to video, concludes the story and rides off.

I frankly think this formula overtly smacks of Fable.  A game set over a long period of time told in a story book fashion that lets you see how your character physically evolves over time and how the world around him evolves based on choices he has made.  Yes, that sounds like Fable to me.  And this makes me happy.  Because I think Bioware can kick Fable's pretentious butt like it deserves to be kicked.  (I actually like Fable.  I just don't think it is the RPG to end all RPGs it likes to pretend it is.)

I already played DA under the assumption that I was experiencing an exaggerated version of events, for the most part. Especially with the dudes who would be thrown back several feet in the wake of my tank's battle cries (I didn't so Loghain doing that in The Stolen Throne!). That DA2 is making this explicit doesn't bother me in the least.
