So, my pc used to run on Windows Vista 64-bit, with DX 10 I believe, and I have an NVidia GeForce 9800 GT and the game ran beautifully on max settings. However, my pc crashed and the guy that fixed it did so by installing Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit.
I just recently got back into playing the game and I've noticed that there are terrible rendering issues that I'm pretty sure I didn't have before. For example, the archway in front of Lothering's chantry doesn't appear until I am about five feet away from the bridge (Sten's cage side). Also the textures of the hills in the distance seems uneven and unrendered.
Now, I'm wondering, is my game having an issue with Windows 7's DX 11? Or are these issues normal and its just that I haven't played the game in so long that I'm not used to it? Or is it something else entirely?
I would also like to note that I have made sure that my NVidia driver is up to date.
Any help would be appreciated.
rendering issues...

Hmmm firstly would check that Windows 7 is legit first. Just as a warning. Because if it is not, it will be flagged as unauthorised and you will be forced to buy new and to the point if you ignore it will shutdown every 2 hours.
The 9800GT is not a DirectX 11 compatible card, it will run on DX9c and DX10 though. Which leads me to the question have you completely updated your DirectX?
Also make sure your motherboard drivers are up to date also.
Also if you have 4GB RAM+ then the 32bit Windows 7 will not see it all. Why do you not have Vista 64bit? Surely you have your media you can install from?

I tried to reinstall Vista when my computer crapped out, but for whatever reason it wouldn't work. And my girlfriend's buddy, who works with computers, couldn't even get it to work, so he installed 7. I've also had similar problems with games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion.
I'll make sure all of my drivers are up to date, but do you think it might just be that it's an issue with Windows 7?

I dont think its an issue with Windows 7 as I am playing Oblivion on max settings no problem.
Could just be you have to install DirectX completely, as Windows 7 doesnt have 9c and 10 fully installed from a factory default setup. You can get from Microsoft's website, or run from a more recent game disc which should have a DirectX setup of some kind.
May I ask where did the Vista installation disk cause you problems? Was it with detecting hard drives? Or did it get past that point?

It just wouldn't install. After the crash, I wiped my drive and tried to reinstall and it just wouldn't.
And thank you for your input, btw. I really appreciate it.
Edit: When you say I can get DIrectX 9c and 10 from Microsoft's website, do you mean the end-user runtime thingy? Because I'm not seeing downloads for 9c and 10.

Yes the end-user or web installer, it will install all versions of DirectX run time files your system can use.

I ran the DirectX end-user program, and it said that it was unnecessary to update, so I assume that means DirectX is fully installed. I double checked my NVidia drivers, they are all up to date. And I updated my motherboard. But I'm still having this issue.
I'm thinking my next step is going to be a reinstall of the game.

Try rolling your nVidia drivers back. I've had a lot of issues (XP, mind you, but I have the same card) with anything that's 19x or above.

I'll give rolling back my drivers a try.
But now I'm having another issue (more of a minor wtf annoyance), whenever I boot up Dragon Age, the words "PHYSX > CPU" appear in large letters in the top left corner. What the hell is that?
Edit: It started happening after I fiddled with the troubleshooting tool, if I remember correctly. And it doesn't happen with any other games.
Edit: By 19x drivers do you mean anything that is numbered 190 or higher?

PHYSX > CPU is when the GPU driver chooses wether to use your graphic card or CPU to work out physx effects.

Ah, I see. Well it's gone now, in any case.
And rolling back my NVidia Drivers did nothing but make the colors look slightly different.
Also, a fresh install did not correct the issue either. Any other suggestions? I feel like a pest for asking, but truth be told I have limited knowledge on this sort of thing.
Thanks again for all the input.

To be honest with you, it may well be your friend may not be that good with PC's and may have installed Windows 7 wrongly, as right now I cannot think of any reason why your GPU performance is bad. A proper re-install should work.
And get someone who actually knows PC's very well (not someone who just knows the basics, although that is really all you do need but..) to install Vista for you, I know you said you couldn't get it install at all, but I am not there to see if you choose to boot from the DVD-rom first or from HD first. Or if there is another setting wrongly set in your BIOS. Very difficult to do over a forum

Yes. I think I might try that.

By that, I meant any of the 19x drivers - i.e. ones with version numbers between 190.00 and 199.99. And my apologies, I misreported on that point. I'm using the 18x series of drivers, and I've found 186.18 to be the most agreeable release with my system.StGrimm wrote...
