Difficult with VO.

Um, not really. Look at Oblivion and Fallout.

Yes, but Oblivion mods so hard sometimes to work together, can be a nightmare, while when you have a toolset it makes it much more easier.

I might be wrong in this, but I assume that lots had to do with romance sceens in DAO that devs might have taken toolset out. There are many romance mods that I have personnally installed and used, but I am very sure that devs might have issues on their hands with such mods out in the market. Again it is only my opinion, and I do support the toolset and think even made a post about it.

I'm an avid fan of Bethsoft and Bioware games alike(looking forward to Skyrim and ME3). But it seems to me, based on what I've read here, that Bioware should probably be taking notes from Bethesda. The Oblivion and Morrowind toolsets were not only easy to learn, regardless of their complexity, but they weren't very demanding of system resources. Also, the toolsets for oblivion/morrowind had similar makeup/layouts, so going from one game to the other in terms of modding was simply stepping up your game and being more creative. 'Cause instead of learning a whole NEW toolset, you got to work with something more familiar, albeit more complex though(scripting in oblivion was a lot bigger than in morrowind). If they do release a toolset for DA2 give us similar options, make it more end-user friendly, and get rid of the need to use a database. There has got to be an easier way to use the resources than to have to install another program just to access them. Well, that's my 2 cents, take it or leave it. Peace.

Last I've seen there wont be a toolset because "supposedly" the tools they used to make DA2 are almost identical to the ones used to make DAO so evidently they are saying to use the old DAO toolset without actually saying it. Sounds like alot of laziness to me but if its true at least there will still possibly be a moding community.

I believe there's been and official statement that there wont' be a toolset for DA2.

It's quite depressing... the modding in DA:O improved so many aspects of a the game.

Meh, I was looking forward to getting a toolset for DA II.
I went on google a mere few minutes ago to see when it would be released then got bombarded with the "THERE WILL BE NO TOOLSET FOR DA II" websites/forums/etc.

-sighs-

So yeah: will there be a DA2 toolset? If so, how different will it be from the first? If there won't be one, why? I'm not just making this as a direct appeal to the devs; feel free to speculate in here.

I believe Mike already answered this, but let me repeat: we're considering it, but if there is something for you guys to use it will probably come in the form of an update to the DAO toolset (which would make sense, as we're essentially using the same toolset ourselves).

Right now we don't know for certain that we'll have a chance to do this, hence we aren't mentioning it (lest we be perceived as making iron-clad promises and then be accused of utter betrayal should we change our minds). We'll eventually decide if and when this will happen-- though I will say that the only reason you received the DAO toolset in timely fashion was because of the release delay. Had there been no delay you probably would have received the toolset around the time the game actually did come out-- we don't tend to work on packaging up a toolset for public consumption until after our work on the game itself is primarily done.

So the answer is: we don't know, on any count. But Mike didn't say "no", so that will have to do for the moment.

Oh OK well I guess your post makes more sense now.  Since this game was released only half finished and nowhere near done there surely wont be a toolset.

As if this game couldnt fail any harder.

Obsidion makes Bioware sequels better than Bioware does.  Whodathunkit?

I agree!
For example, dragon age: orgins was a great game as it is, but after your first play throgh - using mods made the game new each time. I will most likely play DAII three times - as a mage, a warrior and as a rogue. I done the same in the orgin, but with mods it made it possible to start the game afresh.

I will be greatly dissapointed if they do not release a toolset, even if I, myself, am and amaeture modder. :?

It's not Bioware anymore. It's EA. And making a Toolset won't make them money. Just like how releasing a finished product won't make them alot of money.

EA used the Dragon Age name to "cash in" it's chips to have us fork over 60 bucks, then feed us DLC so that we can end up with something that might seem like a more complete game.

Yup.

*INSERT COIN TO CONTINUE*

And no toolset makes it easier to sell items as DLC as well ...since people can't make their own. Same for the Companion- outfit/armor you can't change. I bet we will see a lot of so-called "Appearances-packs" to come.

It keeps teh AWESOME MONEYZ flowing, you know?

I think those people who bought the appearance packs (I'm guessing you're talking about the ME2 DLCs) will probably buy them no matter what. Personally I wouldn't buy DLCs unless they offer real value such as added story content or characters. Not releasing the Toolset does not mean an increase in DLC sales. I mean, if they stopped selling video cameras in Best Buy would we see an increase in box office ticket sales? The two things have little to no correlations.

In fact I think the opposite is true and not releasing the Toolset will hurt the DLC sales. Having a good supply of user modded content means the players will continue to play DA2. This translates to on-going interest in the game and thus the release of official DLCs. Should that stream of content supply cease up then players will have no reason to continue playing the game past its core content and thus be much less interested when official DLCs are released.

I mean, if they released an add-on pack for NWN now would you buy it? DLCs only work if the gamers are still playing. User contents is like free publicity for Bioware. If there is none, then most people will just move on to other games after they're done.

If there is sufficient community interest, the Origins toolset will be adapted and/or new programs created to facilitate modding.

Man, I really hope they release an updated toolset. I can't take fighting in those same 3 dungeons(warehouse, cave, and mansion) over and over again. I feel robbed by the lack of variety in level design. Giving us a toolset would let us fix a big community gripe, and BioWare wouldn't even have to pay for the man hours. :)

If they release a toolset, it won't be for several months. The only reason we had the toolset on release with Origins is because the game's release was delayed for six months after the PC edition had gone gold. So, if by September we haven't heard anything, then I'll start ****ing. Until then, I'll be happy that DAII didn't have its release delayed.

I doubt it. Morrowind had similar mods with no issues, Oblivion has similar mods with no issues. There was that "OMZ rating change!" a few weeks after release, but that was ridiculous. We're just going to have to wait a few months. If Origins had been released on time, we wouldn't have had a toolset at this point.

I would doubt it too.  If you're involved in the Morrowind/Oblivion(hell even FO3/NV) mod scene even in the smallest form you know that there's mods galore relating to hot steamy sex stuff.  It's generally the first stuff that gets kicked out, either that or nekid body mods.  But Bethseda has pretty much said they don't care, as long as people use the 'zomg warning' tag if they're linking to adult mods, and they don't violate the local laws.  Meaning damn near anything goes.  And if you're not in a western country, everything goes!

Simply at this point we need a toolset to fix the serious problems in DA2.  Maybe then it can move closer to an actual game.  Personally?  The first thing I'm going to look at doing is doing a 'staff focus-chest unlock' style mod so I don't need to keep a freaking rogue with me all the time.

Freedom of choice!  Nah gotta keep a rogue.  !@#(*&! that.
