Yes, no, maybe... will there be a Dragon Age 2 toolset?

It would be awesome to have a toolset that is easy to use. I used to tinker with the NWN Toolset and loved it. I'd love to have a chance to team up with some other novice modders to create a new campaign. But it seems toolsets are becoming more and more complex and not designed for creating new adventures. Or, possibly, now, not even exist. :( It's great to see how the builder community extends the longevity/interest of a game.

That reminds me of Treyarch with Black Ops but at least they promised toolset so we just need to wait (well 5 months has passed but whatever). Some of you guys may remember one of my old thread:

http://social.biowar...1/index/3244356

Eight months ago they said "we're not sure", now they say "we don't know". A simple "no" from the beginning would have been more honest in my opinion. Really, do you guys still believe that a modtoool will come out eventually? I do not.

I believe there's been and official statement that there wont' be a toolset for DA2.

It's quite depressing... the modding in DA:O improved so many aspects of a the game.

Link?

The graphics are stunning in my opinion and the engine has a lot of potential. A toolset will definetly have a positive effect on your reputation.

Not giving us a toolset, however, will only confirm what many already think a fact.

And to you console-users, don't blame Bioware for mods, blame Sony for dissapproving, when it's entirely possible to have the game read mods from a USB thumb drive -- as we can with video files.

toolset = purchase for me, though I don't have high hopes on this given the utter lack of support on the toolset for DA:O.

Still, it would be nice to get surprised :)

I sure hope Bioware reconsiders if it is in fact confirmed that there is no toolset.

DLC has absolutely nothing to do with the toolset in Dragon Age.

The only impressive unique content coming out of the modding community are a few armor sets and weapon models (maybe seven or eight total, at the most).

Most Dragon Age modders waste their time on nudity mods, not new adventures and quests with voice acting.

Exactly. While its easy to put the blame on EA (evil publishers want more money etc. etc.), I honestly think any decision regarding the toolset will be made by Bioware. It will merely come down to whether or not they think spending precious development time on releasing a new toolset to the public is ultimately worth it - that is, if they get a solid return on their investment of time. DLC rarely ever competes with player-created content (heck, even NWN sold a boatload of DLC, despite having such a massive modding community), so Maverick hit the nail on the head by shooting down this argument.
[/quote  i have one question. if i were to obtain user created content. how would i install it to DA2? i know how to in Origins (use the DAUpdater) but in this i dont see one. Help please. i <3 mods. lol

@Dalira Yes, you're pretty much spot on. They issued cease and desist orders to people who put out bug patches for the original DAO after 1.04 because it made it look like the community was doing better than Bioware themselves. They wont release a toolset for DA2 because why lets the community create content that will look better than what they made when they can just sell them content as DLC and recoup a bit of the losses from this shoddy release?

Also think about this. Lets say they did release a toolset for DA2. What art assets would it come bundled with? You'd be able to make areas that look like Kirkwall and....... Kirkwall and...... Kirkwall and.....

Well, you get the idea.

The game could definitely benefit from a modding paintbrush. Not least of which replacing many of the repeated caves/dungeons with community-made areas. Although, I fully expect 100 variations of "Nude Isabella" to wind up at the top of the list.

60DollarsWasted, in DA:O we could create art assets by using a modelling program and textures, so we can have more than "Kirkwalls". That could be an idea for a first community contest....

Also, Bioware, this will be a positive force for the fence-sitters. Thus, the green stuff for you and EA. Also it will turn the disapproval from many a little and show that you haven't completely sold out. The hype will end in a month or two, modding will prolong a moderate hype untill a new game in the series is released.

As Gaider has said, we shouldn't expect anything before months after release if we ever get one. I bought DA:O DLC even with all the mods being freely available.

God I hope it's a totally new package and not just an update to the original toolset. To this day, I have yet to get the original toolset to run properly because of stupid SQL issues.

Lol? Seriously?
There are about 5-10 nudity mods I can think off - and over 400 other mods that do not include nudity, and loads that provide new adventures.

- Dark times.
- Recreating BG2 in DA:O.
- Recreating NWN2 in DA:O.

...and so on.

i've even asked EA support about that. Well, they have no clues either. But don't let us the dark here, we deserve to know about it, even if it will be released if x copy of the game are sold, just say it :)

The lack of toolset is a big mistake.

Modders would be already working on the "same cave, same house" to make them different.

A toolset would keep the community active and interested. Many complaints would become irrelevant.

Games like NWN OC and Oblivion are still popular and beloved because of their toolsets.

I still write the occasional NWN module. I think it's fun. If they don't however release a toolset for this game within a month or so, I'm going to sell it. I'm working on my second time through DA:2 now and the repeated caves are killing me.

I for one am SEVERELY disappointed in you BioWare. DA:O was a total win, but DA2 is a complete failure. I've beaten the game, and now I'm left with nothing but a sour taste in my mouth. The reason I bought this game was for the toolset, and now there might not be? I'm giving my game away to some kid who wants it... so it can ruin is expectations about it as well. I will not support a game that HAD a toolset but doesn't anymore. Thanks for wasting my $60, I'll not be buying anymore games from you or EA because you've now turned into them. There was some fine points about the game sure, like the magic and attacks are now way cooler. However... there is a LOT more that pissed me off about it and now I don't care enough anymore about playing it. Thanks BioWare.

Just a little bump. I'm getting modders withdraw symptoms. I had so many ideas for new mods to.

BioGamerz Reply: DA2 wasnt a complete failure. the game has improvements compared to DAO. The graphics make the character models more detailed, the combat is better, and the conversation system is good too. i dont get why people are hatting the conversation system and a few people are hatting the combat when its way better in DA2. The only problems in DA2 is the repeated locations and no asymetrical view. People arent putting all the imrovements and problems into perspective, they're just complaining about the few problems. The causes of these problems are probebly EA. The first DA took more than 5 years to make while DA2 took around a mere 2. EA probebly gave Bioware a really close deadline which must be why they repeated the locations and said it was on purpose to help players. Bioware didnt have the time needed. Damn EA. Watch me get banned for this.

A toolset would be nice but I'm not sure if we'll ever see one. If the devs aren't working on the next game or patch, then they're working on paid-for-DLC. All of which are likely prioritised over a wildcard such as the toolset.

Have to disagree with the first half. It has improvements, but there are also many areas DA:O did better. Claiming combat is better does not mean anything either, that part is subjective. They are putting it in perspective. You're just unhappy there're more cons than pros.

If there's no toolset, what are the modders on DANexus making their mods with?
