The artwork for DA2 has a very barren, "Dark Tower", magical/sword wild west feel to it

 Agree or disagree?

I kind of like this, a fresh break from the generic tolkein setting

From what we've seen? Yes, it looks very Dark Sun-ish.

Granted, we haven't seen much so far.

It is quite different than the first game, yes.

But, Middle Earth has barren landscapes, just saying :P

Stephen King's Dark Tower? The fourth book was the last one worth reading. The following ones just failed to deliver, though the final book wasn't as terrible as the fifth and sixth.

Though I would like to see an RPG with some inspiration from Dark Tower storyline, when Roland had his original ka-tet (Alain, Cuthbert).

You're right, it looks very desolate and barren. I'm looking forward to seeing how it plays out in-game.

The Darkspawn fled across the Wilds, and Hawke followed.

The areas they've shown us, yes. But I'd assume there's more variation than that in the final game. Or I hope so. It'd get dull if the entire game was like that.

Ah, if only DA2 drew upon The Dark Tower for influence, I could get into that in a big way.

Although, "We say the world has Moved On, maybe what we really mean, is that it has begun to dry up."  Is a pretty apt description of my impressions of the game.

To the poster that said book 4 was the last decent one:  I agree, after his accident King seemed to lose something.  I don't know what spark or piece of himself he gave up to survive that, but his writing was never the same.

That audio book sounds awful - the reader should be doing Winnie Pooh, not Dark Tower. That is the reason I so rarely pick up audio books.

And I agree the first 4 books were great - I tried reading the 5th and just couldn't do it.

Whatever the case, the devs have stated they wanted a darker feel for the second game and I really hope they manage it ... I want the "dark fantasy game" I was promised. (though, again, I'll give a nod to Awakening which did a much better job at capturing that)

heh, yeah.  I just threw it up there cause it showcased a good amount of artwork from the series.

No doubt. Yes-- you're just looking at one area of the game, and one that hasn't been fully "dressed-up" yet, so to speak (hence the "barren" look, I suppose). The final version of an area has a lot more props and lighting touches done to it. There are definitely other environments.

Ok this is just me but the screen shots instantly made me think of the 'Dark Sun" world of old school dungeons and dragons art.
