Changing the appearance of armour and weapons.

I don't remember quite how to do it. I think I did it from the radial menu on either myself or the armour. I tried just now and I can't find an option. During character creation there are the craft armour and craft weapon skills that I assume are what allow me to do this but they're greyed out and say I need Hordes of the Underdark and Shadows of Undrentide installed.
Is that correct? I just have the basic NWN 1. Do I need to buy the expansions or is there a mod or optional update that I can download? I don't want the expansions, I just want the ability to change the appearance of my gear.
Also, on an unrelated note, when I was looking through the skills I noticed rogue skills like lock pick and hide are now available for all classes. Is it supposed to be like that? Is that new? And there's also a riding skill. I don't remember that before.
I have version 1.69
Many thanks

Kamiryn's customise character will allow you to change any aspect of your character including armour.
All classes can putranks into skills with the exception of UMD and perform which are limited. BUT, if it is not a class skill, it costs double and you can only get half the ranks so it is best to save your points for a few levels and then take a rogue level to get the full benefit.
Horses are new with 1.69. You need a module that uses horses to take advantage of it tho so don't worry about that skill now.
If I can suggest one more thing it is to get the 2 expansions. Most mp environments will require them, most of the free modules available on the vault require them and they add new classes etc too. Given they are very cheap now, you really do want them.
Have fun

You only need 1.69 to play offline, if you want to play online however, many servers use CEP 2.2 (if not CEP 2.3)
You can get that here: http://nwvault.ign.c...r=cep/downloads

Ride was introduced with v1.69.
Most all skills can be at least cross-classed across the board. The few exceptions that come to mind are Animal Empathy, Perform and UMD.
As far as the chronology... sry can't really help there.

Thanks, that sounds ideal.
Is there a mod that updates the character models? That might be asking too much though.
Thanks everyone.

Will I be able to assign points to that skill when I level up, or can you not be a weapon master with just the basic game, and they just included it as some kind of joke?
Many thanks.
Oh, and I've just noticed that unfortunately the customise character mod requires HOTU to work, so I can't use it. Ironically if I HAD HOTU I wouldn't need it. I'd buy it but it's only available where I am in a bundle with the original (which I already have) for fifty bucks, and that's more than I want to pay.

Have you patched your installation beyond its original version? If so, did you make sure to get the Original NWN file (as opposed to the NWN: Hordes of the Underdark file)? I'm not certain, but perhaps the wrong patch would cause this strange behavior.

If you really like NWN (like I do), I would file the original version in the historical bin and buy a Diamond DVD. Honestly, IMO it's the path of least resistance.Phil5000 wrote...

Are you saying your stores don't stock the Diamond version? I got a new Diamond DVD a few years ago on ebay for 12 USD +ship and there were several other vendors offering around the same price during the few weeks I decided to shop. As far as Amazon and other normally-reliable sources, I've seen stocks run out occasionally but then again those sites have shipping policies that make international delivery problematic (I'm guessing NZ falls into that category) even if you find them in stock. If the kids decided to use my Diamond copy for a frizzbie I would immediately be checking ebay again. Of course, this is only one opinion... so swallow with a grain of salt.

Your weapon master situation seems quite odd, Phil5000. Both the weapon master prestige class and the intimidate skill were introduced with the Hordes of the Underdark expansion; this explains the message you received about needing HotU to put points into intimidate. However, I don't know how this skill or class would show at all in a no-expansion install of NWN.

That occurred to me. The patch I used was NWNEnglish1.69OrigUpdate.exe. I'm assuming that's for the original game.

I can get the diamod version but it's fifty bucks on top of the fifteen I spent already on the original. I'm trying to save up for some big RPGs that are coming out in a couple of months, and I only really wanted to play the original again, I'm not bothered about the expansions. But I take your point, it would be the easiest rout. But I just can't justify it.

Yes, that should be the right one for you. I still don't know how weapon master references would appear in your game.
Not to be depressing (but rather, to avoid annoyance for you down the line), but without either expansion installed I believe you will not have any prestige classes available. You also should find the following skills unattainable: appraise, bluff, craft armor, craft trap, craft weapon, intimidate, and tumble. There will be feats and spells in this category, as well.

You're welcome. Sry it didn't work out tho. Another thread for you to check out is NWN Essentials . Near the end is a link to a post I made which might allow you to change your armour... and I've just checked and it doesn't go to the right place ! Grrrrr. Anyway, it's still a useful thread to make the game look and play better. I don't know how much of it will work without HoTU of course, (and can't stress how important SoU and HoTU are for most things), but the graphics and GUI andthings should work at least.
To change armour (in theory, completely untested without SoU and HoTU)
1. Export your character from the module and make a save.
2. Go to NWVault and download a character creator. (there's some linked in the Essential's thread I think.)
3. Load your new module, import your character and make whatever changes you want, then export your character again.
4. Load the module you're playing, BUT... from the NWN main menu, choose multiplayer first, then choose Load Internet/Lan game.
5. Now you will be given the option of choosing which version of your character you play so choose the latest one that you modified.
Have fun
