Funny I thought the Tali romance option was...Creepy and awkward while the Jack romance was quite moving.

And I think they all come off as creepy and awkward. Because people do not fall in love that way.

I really hope they don't add any new LIs and just improve on the nine that have now.

Still at least I'm glad she's not the least popular and that at least 163 people also want her back in Mass Effect 3. Whatever, I'm still happy with the end result.

I like Ashley a lot (she is my second favorite female LI next to Tali) and I think the problem with her popularity right now is her horrible, horrible portrayal on Horizon. Also the fact people over exagerrate her "racism" is probably not helping.

I don't think you can over exaggerate "racism", your either racist or your not. And she is racist. We dealt with it extensively in my cultural anthropology classes.

Not really.

'Racism' is defined as I understand it as the fear and hatred of other races based on the fact that they are different to you or the idea that your race is superior.
That really doesn't fit Ashley.
Ashley isn't racist, she's prejudice.

Ashley doesn't hate aliens, she has issues yes but it is not based on the fact that they are different to humans or that they are a different race or that she believes humanity is superior, she just has prejudices against aliens largely because of the past history especially the fact that her grandfather was the first human ever to surrender to an alien race and as a result her family name is blacklisted by the Alliance military.
Thus she has been given really crappy planet side assignments and has a complete lack of working with aliens in any way and because of her family's history she doesn't trust the Citadel Council and doesn't think Humanity should rely on them staying allies. That's why she distrusts aliens in general, a lack of experiance and bad history.
She doesn't hate them because they are a different RACE, she merely distrusts them because of bad HISTORY. There's a difference.

That said, she still happily volunteers to assist the Salarians on Virmire, she compliments Tali in the elevator conversations especially noting that some humans are angry at the Quarians after the attack on Eden Prime and that she hopes that Tali helping them out can change people's views on the Quarians. She also flat out despises Terra Firma believing their reasons for distrusting aliens and their policies are completely unfounded and is offended to even be compared to them. She herself also says that humanity shouldn't 'mistreat' non humans and that she doesn't believe humanity is 'superior'
Also as anyone on the Ashley thread can attest, if you pursue the right dialouge with her she can actually move past her prejudices against aliens and actually grow to trust them and the Council and even be proud to be fighting alongside the multi-species crew in a joint effort to stop Saren.

So yes, when I hear people shout:
"GAH MOST RACIST B*TCH I'VE EVER SEEN IN A GAME EVER, SHE ONLY EVER SPOUTS ANTI ALIEN RANTS AND RACIAL SLURS BECAUSE SHE BELIEVES HUMANITY IS SUPERIOR!!"
Yes, they are exaggerating. Pretty badly too.

Whenever someone hates a character they will exaggerate the hell out of that character's negative traits.

Hater's gonna hate after all.

Not just for characters, but for games as well.

Wow. I honestly thought Miranda would've gotten much higher results than that, possibly even higher than Tali's.

People hate Chakwas? Seriously?

Morinth sucks. No surprise there.

surprised Tali has retained so much popularity this much after the release.

Since V-Rex already gave a well detailed post on the reasons why Ashley has some prejudiced, I figured I'd add my two cents. By definition, Ashley meets none of the qualifications of being a racist.

Racism:
Racism is the belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race. In the case of institutional racism, certain racial groups may be denied rights or benefits, or get preferential treatment.

Racial discrimination typically points out taxonomic differences between different groups of people, although anyone may be discriminated against on an ethnic or cultural basis, independently of their somatic differences. According to the United Nations conventions, there is no distinction between the term racial discrimination and ethnic discrimination.

Now compare that to Prejudice

Prejudice:
A prejudice is a preconceived belief, opinion, or judgment toward a group of people or a single person because of race, social class, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, disability, political beliefs , religion, line of work or other personal characteristics. It also means a priori beliefs (without knowledge of the facts) and includes "any unreasonable attitude that is unusually resistant to rational influence." Although positive and negative prejudice both exist, when used negatively, "prejudice" implies fear and antipathy toward such a group or person.

Now honestly, of the two, which one sounds more like Ashley? IMO, Prejudice. As V-Rex pointed out, she blamed Aliens, when it really was humans, for what happened to her family. She has a lack of experience working with them because she had been stuck working groundside until the start of ME1. But if she were truly "racist" she would find herself associated with groups like Terma Firm and say things like aliens are only holding us back, not that we should be dependent on ourselves.

It still amuses me to that haters still completely ignore that you can nudge her out of her beliefs can convince her to become more open minded. But alas, people still want to use a "She's a racist" as a blanket term and bash her.

Why can't people leave other people's LI in peace?

Subconciously, people think that any attention given to another LI means that their own LI will be forgotten and left behind in ME3. Therefore, character wars.

I'm going to go and put it out there that one of my favourite characters is liara. Was my LI and I just really liked how pensive she became and how she matured throughout the series

And they were right.
