Yes and you came up with this without even seeing the game for youself at this early staged.

Read the reviews, and read established premise.
Less RPG choices, more combat, ninja like moves, and so on.

Those articles were written by idiots and have only served to spread misinformation to lemmings.  To advocate them means either to be a lemming or to be an idiot.

Congratulations on being either.

If complete character customization is what makes an RPG then The Witcher, Planescape: Torment, Fallout 1&2 and EVERY JRPG aren't role playing games

I think that the idea of genres is as pointless as the ever elusive definition of a "true RPG". DA2 should be a fun and enjoyable game. I could care less what you choose to call it.

Yes... they reviewed a game that has yet to even come out. And where did the articles say that "theres more combat and less story"? They didn't, they just said the console versions combat is more dynamic while the PC's stay the same.

The witcher had much heavier combat, a voiced protaganist, and ninja moves yet it is one of the best RPG'S out there, i don't see how having a voice makes the game less of an RPG.

Would you still be dauntless if I called the game the most unholy abomination to ever sour Earth's air?

Roleplay means you play a role.So that means everysingle game where you play as a character is a roleplaying game.
All the rest of the names are labels meant to grab some peoples attention so they will buy.
Like SIMs is not roleplaying.
But Black is roleplaying.
Black is a ps2 game that is a first person shooter where you play as some guy*forgot the name* who is retelling his past missions to an internal affairs guy.

Neither had a first part, which allowed for customization like Dragon Age 1. Witcher is based on a book about character, Torment is specific. Fallout 1 had several characters to choose from :P

Witcher was one of the most annoying and ugly games I played. Not to mention the in game dialogue was pompous and pretentious.

That's a popular misunderstanding with how the term "RPG" is applied to gaming.  To say that any game where you assume a role is a role playing game is entirely unhelpful and inaccurate in practical applications of the term.

When people say that a game has "RPG" elements, they mean that it offers the players stats that may be altered in various ways.  A racing game, for instance, that has cars with a "Speed" attribute and a "Handling" attribute that are each affected by various parts the player can choose to install would be said to have RPG elements.  A shooter in which the player can modify his or gun with scopes that might add to "Accuracy" or silencers that add to "Stealth" would similarly have RPG elements.

An RPG game is one that involves this with just about every aspect of the game.  The player alters his or her stats, which in turn alter the talents that said player has chosen, and also allow the player to equip more powerful items which alters his or her stats...

In a practical sense, the ability to form relationships and - gasp - talk to NPCs has little to do with how "RPG" is typically used in gaming.

In short, "RPG" simply means that a game does its best to show the otherwise behind-the-scenes dice rolls that govern a game.

Fallout 1&2 have complete customization. There's just some optional premade characters -_o
And yeah,  j"RPG" are not cRPG. More like visual novels with exp farming.

SO RPG for gaming is all about having a system using numbers to change the character's effectiveness in someway as you play....?

In the basic sense of the term, yes, I think that's right. However...

Absolute nonsense. Read what I wrote in my previous post on the thread. That is one approach to and understanding of RPG gaming, and a highly controversial one to boot. It is not only not even close to universally accepted, but that focus on game mechanics is frequently derided by RP'ers as a faux form of RPG gaming (through the derogatory term "Roll-Playing").

As I said, one of the problems with discussions about CRPG gaming is that different people have different ideas about what the term means and place a different emphasis on the different gameplay elements associate with those ideas. There's no way to discuss the subject productively until we understand that fact, deal with it, and try to develop a common language and terminoligy that takes it into account.

Most likely an action game with some RPG elements but not as much as DOA.
This is the trend Bioware is trying to create in order to increase sales from my view.
The hooked RPG gamers will buy it anyway in 80-90% while there is a chance a number of consumer base that played God of War, Diablo, Modern Warfare will buy such games as well.

Yes and you came up with this without even seeing the game for youself at this early staged.

For your information, people who play garbage like Modern Warfail don't bother with any other game that doesn't involve a first person view, they stick to those boring COD games or that boring beyond death L4D2.

ähhm....I regularly play Bad Company 2 online...as well as L4D2...I love to play God of War or Assassins Creed.
But I also played several times trough DAO aswell as Kotor, NWN series and the Baldurs Gate games (and im freaking sad that the cds are broken) and enjoyed all of them!....soooo....does that make to some kind of mutation then?

well i just want to say that i dont care its one race i dont care all the changes thay made
i will buy this game

but only if it is still an rpg!! true rpg!!

and not an action game with some rpg elements or an  action rpg what ever you want to call it...or action crp....thers tons of action games in the mraket i dont need another one..

so what do you think what genre da2 is??

-bg1, 2  fallout 1, 2  .kotor!! arcanum! for me was a great game!!!! planscape torment also..(you can play only human but it was great rpg) dao also was very good rpg not like those games but not so far from them...

what da2 will be?

p.s again sorry for my english ...

Roughly same situation, I didn't care for any changes they'd make as long as DA2 is RPG. DA2 seems to be an aRPG/hack & slash regarding the combat but will have a story.

Since it's a hack & slash, I'll probably skip for Diablo III. Hack & slash games are a different kind of beast than old school RPGs, they're fun but have limited replayability value, less interesting combat, at least in my eyes, and they need super graphics & spell effects to be super cool.

I have played both Dark Alliance & Demon Stone, but bought them under 10£ , used, in gamespot. Demon Stone was fun, but a 10£ price tag is about right, considering it took me two days to finish it and never played it since. Diablo on the other hand will have recent updates, stability, the kewlest spell effects, yearly expansions, frequent (probably free) content patches/DLC, and most important of all - multiplayer.

Any AAA hack & slash imo needs multiplayer, only non-multi player hack & slash that I liked recently was Torchlight, but again I payed ~10£ on Steam for that one as well. It's the multi-player aspect mainly that makes hack & slash games fun, else they feel kinda stale and I find they're worth playing for a couple of days but not more than that.

Anyhow, to cut the long story short, as this is probably my last post in DA2 forums due to lack of interest for a hack & slash by Bioware, I won't be following the developments. Hack & slash games, except diablo usually provide a fun 2-3 day experience and the pricetag I'm willing to pay for them is ~10£, usually years after release. Now, since DIII is around the corner, I can't see me purchasing another hack & slash for at least 3-4 years. In any case, hope those of you that play DA2 enjoy the game even if I'm not looking forward for a hack & slash DA2.

That's an interesting definition. The problem with it is that it makes RPGs sound like a colossal misnomer.

And if the core meaning of RPG means that Adventure Quest is the epitome of RPGs, I'm turning in my RPG player license.

But really, who the hell cares? If you know what's in the game, you'll know if you'll like it. The box we put it in is irrelevant.

You are exactly like me, i enjoy those games too, i was just telling that other guy that people who solely play games like MW2, BC2 or shooters don't care about games like ME,ME2,DAO,KOTOR or the upcoming DA2

Oblivion w/ guns - no wait, we already have that

Oblivion with God of War combat! (sounds awful) but Curt Schilling just announced that is his new game.

I got it

Ninja Gaiden w/ Swords! Because it's not like the market is flooded w/ air combo action games.

Devil May Cry

Devil May Cry 2

Devil May Cry 3

Devil May Cry 5

Ninja Gaiden

Ninja Gaiden 2

God of War

God of War 2

God of War 3

Darksiders

Dante's Inferno

Bayonetta

Yep, that's what we need, another 10 hour long action game w/ leg guns and air combos
