best games imo is Oblviion and DA:O.
Of course both could use some more work...Those two lasted the longest in replay.

Oblivion is considered the WORST Elder scrolls game w/ made.  I liked Oblivion, but it was a step backwards from Morrowind

Arena is the worst of the main line, and Oblivion had better gameplay mechanics just a crappy setting

Morrowind Tribunal is the epitome of how to do an Elder Scrolls game perfectly. Deep, but not too big. Lots of quests, but MEANINGFUL quests w/ real rewards, none of that "ok here are some level 1 potions" rewards.

Not to mention the Storyline in Tribunal pwnz.

This is what I thought too, Oblivion's engine and mechanics were by far the best in TES yet. It was just burdened by an incredibly cliche plot and dull art direction. Which is why I am glad the interesting regions like Elswyre, Black Marsh, and Hammerfell are left to get the next treatment.

Well, I would hope it's still considered an RPG.

so what do you think what genre da2 is??

-bg1, 2  fallout 1, 2  .kotor!! arcanum! for me was a great game!!!! planscape torment also..(you can play only human but it was great rpg) dao also was very good rpg not like those games but not so far from them...

what da2 will be?

p.s again sorry for my english ...

Personally, I think they ruled out the possibility of it being an RPG when they hid the dialogue. You can't really roleplay a character when you don't know what you're saying, you can only prod your puppet to have the kind of attitude you would like.

I'd have to put this in the 'third person action game with RPG elements' genre.

Without nitpicking or being petty about it, this much we know, it has elements of -- rpg, action and fantasy with little bits of adventuring thrown in.

It should be WHO CARES.

Will labeling it enhance or detract from your enjoyment of it?

All you yammering back and forth about what makes a "true" RPG are freaking ridiculous. All that crap you are trying to define by is pointless. You know what is a true RPG? That 12 year old on the basketball court across the street pretending to be Jordan....

Get over yourselves.

I don't know, if Activision went and started calling Call of Duty an RPG I'm not sure if I'd really enjoy it as an RPG. (Or anything for that matter, but that's besides the point.)

I don't understand why some people think the only true RPG is a top down perspective tactical combat thing. An action RPG is till an RPG and can still offer a wide variety. Like take Hawk for example sure he has a predetermined background but he can be a mage, warrior, rogue, determine how he plays and reacts level him up, it sounds like a roleplaying game to me!

Sometimes this friend of mine comes over. She likes to pretend she's a cop and I've been caught stealing. Yeah I don't think we've ever kept track of things like "stats"......

But that's kind of the point. Labels don't change anything, so who cares what they are? Unless someone goes around buying everything that says RPG on the box, which I guess is possible.

If she books you, you've got stats! *ba-dum-tisch*

Seriously though, sometimes - while I understand the need to market games - I think genre definitions are more limiting than they are helpful.

The big question to me is - "do I think I'll have fun?" followed closely by "do I think its worth whatever $$$ (buy/rent) to play it?".

That said, I do think that there's nothing that I've seen about DA2 that makes me think its suddenly not going to be some type of RPG game.

uhh.. rpg. honestly, what does it matter, the only people who would be whining about it being anything else are cynics anyway.

This whole conversation gets a little ridiculous after awhile. We all might as well break out some dice and start playing some D&D, I'll go get my Gnome Sorcerer and we can all be happy.

No. With everything advancing, so will the RPGs of today. What matters is what is inside the damn game, not some label it's given by people wishing for "the good ol' days" where "true gamers" were.

difference between nwn and dao is, i feel the pace of nwn too slow, too much micro management.

BG has nice micro management vs pace but without a good graphic

DAO has a good graphic, good pace and light hearted micro management of character.

everytime i want to play nwn, i will exit the game within 5 min due to the thought of having to go through all the management.

That said, it does not mean i am the action-rpg type of player. As long as the RPG micro management (equipment, items etc) is done well, it does not matter whether this will be an action game or not. I do, however, hate the idea of pure action/adventure game where they left out RPG elemental or decrease it to almost none.

Maybe "advance" was the wrong term to use, because that may not apply to you. How about change? They are changing to what the majority of gamers want, that is how a company makes money. Not by going to individual people and making a game based on the wishes of one person. They are attempting to fix what people don't enjoy and keep what the majority does.If you simply want a game based on what you think would entertain YOU.. Goodluck.

But here the majority will win every time. So don't act like they are taking away all what Origins was and starting anew. You don't have the information to make the assumptions you are. From what BioWare HAS said they are actually keeping many of the same things in this game. Of course you probably don't believe what they are saying anyway, so why am I typing this? :pinched:
