1.We wont be able to choose our race.Instead, we re given a pre-defined character to play,
2.Combat looks more action oriented, based on few previews on console version of the game,
3.Traditional CRPG Dialogue has been replaced by the The Conversation Wheel,
4.Change in graphics.
Well, here are my thoughts about the above mentioned concerns.
1.One of the best CRPGs of all time (if not the best) was without any doubt Planescape:Torment, where you were not given the choice to select your name, race or even customize your character. However,as the story unfolded, made me connect to that character (the nameless one) more than every other computer game.So i wont rush into any conclusions, till i find out what's the story behind this Hawke fellow. Maybe he's a crucial character to the world of Thedas and it's history (its like playing Elminster or Drizzt before they become famous).
Moreover, the guys at BW made a new world from scratch, and they want to introduce its history, lore, locations, etc. to us. Therefore, try to look their efforts as a world-oriented game and not as a character-oriented one.
2.According to my humble opinion, true fans of the "old school" RPG gender played DAO on a PC and not on a console. As i ve read,PC combat system will remain mostly the same,so no worries about this one. BioWare is just trying to adjust DA2 on the nowadays demands of the console market.
3.One thing i didn't like in DAO was that i got more connected with the NPC's of my party, rather than my own character. The main reason for that might have been the fact that my hero didn't speak at all, just stared like an emotionless puppet. So the new voiced hero is a plus for me!As long as they keep in track the choices we re given in the Conversation Wheel to what the character actually says,i wouldn't mind the change (see also "How to fix the dialogue system" topic by BlackyBlack).
4. To be honest on this one, i really expected a more "epic dark-themed" kind of graphics, rather than the ones we ve seen so far.But as i said before..Good things come to those who wait!

Can't you at least wave your arms around, maybe stomp around a bit, maybe toss a tomato or two?
(I agree with you good sir and your well-written post.) <3

You are still assuming this will be an RPG. Good for you.

His very presence depresses me.

No it's to engage in combat. Read the reviews. Just like they turned ME2 into shooter they are turning this into God of War clone.ibortolis wrote...
No,Kordaris may be right, maybe Hawke's purpose on DA2 is to invent football,so in DA3 we ll have the Thedas World cup championship! So DA2 might be a first-person shooter sports game!

I have to admit I'd like a voiced character in Dragon Age. For some reason I never got very attatched to my warden, I far prefered my Shepard.

the most gripping bits of Mass Effect were the rousing speeches shepard
made. In DA, your Warden just stood there awkwardly with a blank look on

I completely agree. Even though DA:O let you roleplay your character's background much more than ME, and certainly gave us much more in-depth relationships with our party members, in some respects the Warden was this hollow void at the heart of the game. People would refer to "the Warden" and I'd usually think "don't you mean Wardens - Alistair's standing right there!" Or, sometimes, I'd wonder why everyone acted like my character was the hero, when, to my mind, Alistair should have been garnering much more attention. I mean, my character's voice was never heard. And no one ever addressed her by name. Those are two of the factors that make Shepard so much more alive in Mass Effect. I am genuinely delighted to see them being introduced in DA2 (even if I'm sorry that we'll have no choice of race, as I enjoyed playing my City Elf in DA:O).

It's like Nintendo said last year they would never give Link a voiced because you know it your head what he should sound like and whoever they cast is never going to be good enough. There was a huge amount of angry players when the gave a voice to Samus in Metriod:other M because the Samus didn't even come close to what everyone thought she would sound like.

That's all very well for an established character like Link, but when you're introducing a character for the first time I don't see how voice acting could disrupt immersion.Jmojocat wrote...
The reason they didn't give a voice to the character is becasue you have in your head an idea what your Warden will sound like making it a more imersive experiance.

Besides, when *everyone* else is voiced, it's like your character is somehow less real when she or he remains silent yet everyone acts like s/he speaks. *That* disrupts my immersion.

The only thing we know enough to complain about is the graphics, because we have actual screenshots! The devs are promising a long clip of conversation for us to see soon!
What combat and conversation that's been seen and reviewed so far were just exaggerated examples to grab attention.!

No, we also know you won't be able to pick your character from several choices, you are stuck with the Hawke peasant. The game will also be more combat orientated, with ninja-like moves for characters-already shown.Kritanakom wrote...

Personally, graphics look very well made. Perhaps some more refined textures will make them even better, but facial structure and in general the new hurlocks look quite gorgeous. Also, the blood seem to be much better looking, without any actual rain that dirties you behind your back. Which is good.
We'll still have to wait and see though. It can get better as well as it can get worse. We can't say yet.
Also, combat = sport. There was an interesting "how to destroy the world" on discovery channel. they started with war and battle, then they passed to sport, to end up in video games. It's basically the same.
