so it's only for Duncan and a nondrop item for others......damn, what about his ponytail.....that has to add +5 to cunning.

Indeed. While the Battle of Ostagar was the perfect place to kill Duncan off, I'm of the mind that it happened far too early in the game's narrative. But, hey, there's always the possibility of DLC... however unlikely.Collider wrote...
It's a shame we didn't actually get to experience traveling with Duncan to Ostagar. Duncan could have been the father the Warden never had (for some origins).
It would have made Duncan's death far more impacting to the player.

I have a feeling he escaped Ostagar. He's too badass to be killed by mere Darkspawn.
So, what? He just decided to let the two new guys stop the blight?

No body at RTO, you don't see Duncan get killed, nothing. Its obvious that as the Hurlock Vanguard was swinging back his axe, Duncan's beard thrust the sword into the Hurlock's throat. Its obvious...come on.

Yes... THE STORY OF HAWKE!
Having Hawke being the spawn of Duncan's beard is the only explaination for how he will be the most important person in Thedas!

Duncan killed his way off the battlefield chasing after Loghain but got sidetracked. He ended up having to bring Fergus Cousland back to health, and then helped a bunch of templars track down Jowan, who rewarded him with a golem rod. The rod ended up being a dead end, so he then set Brother Genitivi on the right path to Haven while traveling to Redcliffe to get help from Eamon, only to arrive at night and find it completely taken over by zombies. He then made it to Denerim just in time to watch the fireworks on top of Ft. Drakon, and then Duncan had a sudden fatal heart attack due to his ridiculously butter heavy diet, and the soldiers threw him on one of those anonymous corpse piles that seemed to be so popular.
LMAO, "butter heavy diet" omg, too funny.

Poor Duncan was so over-hyped before the relase of DA and bam, there you go, second section of the game and he's eating dirt.
OR
Bioware is trolling us and he will show up in the end of DA2.
