I think the article gives some new information, they seem more positive about it than 1UP.

I'll get impressions out of the way first: It's faster and more brutal,
less cerebral and more exaggerated. You might think that's because
BioWare wants to make the game a little flashier and more accessible,
and you'd be right in part. But Dragon Age 2's dark secret is
that even if the action is a little more over-the-top and a lot darker,
there's a real, solid, story-based justification for it.

That doesn't make any sense, does it?

Is this what they're referring to?:
"In other words, the game is told in flashback, by a not-always reliable third party. Which means that if Hawke's story is flashier, grittier, or more fanciful than the first game, that's okay -- anything that might be a lie probably is. "We wanted to see what happened if a legend is exaggerated," said Laidlaw during the demonstration."

Sounds like the combat is going to be a mix of Fable and DA:O. It will either work or suck hard. Here's hoping for the first.

The combat is hyped up to make Hawke look superhuman.  The Demo was of Verric's embellished retelling.

You know, the coreidea of playing what is actually just a - maybe - altered story of someone, that sounds pretty exciting in my books. I am curious to find out how this will be handled, both in design and mechanics, characters, relationships and decisions.

I do hope that we won't be disappointed in this regard. The integration of a narrator could open up a lot of interesting options. Looking forward to new information about this aspect!

It's great Dragon Age 2 is now a far more action focused game as action games have been in short supply in the last few years, very original, glad to they cop out and target mainstream demographics for wider sales bursts.

This preview was better than the crap that the other gaming sites were putting out the last day or two. But even here, they seem to be implying that certain things (like Hawke taking down enemies in one hit) apply to the game as a whole, whereas on the forum we have been told that that isn't the case. Still, that was a decent preview.

Hey, you started out saying this was a good thing, but then changed your mind and said the other thing!  I have been deceived!

Sounds like it could be great, I like the idea of the combat being oot to make the story sound better and it won't be the first time Dragon Age stories have been exagerrated.

How does it sound like Dynasty Warriors? I've only played 1 or 2 of them but there doesn't sound like there is anything similar, gameplay wise.

because they are completely changing the combat to have it more ''action=orientated'' so people will go 'wow this iz de ****z get meee blud, GET MEEEEE' so it will become a generic hack and slash. like dynasty warriors.

That was really bad journalism... Did anyone else catch that he kept referencing Ferelden as where this game is taking place? We all know that isn't the case. People should have their facts straight before posting articles like that =/

Positive preview for a change =] What interests me more though is this little piece of info: ''players would make decisions that show how "the Chantry's fallen to pieces" '' . I remember someone on these forum suggested that maybe Hawke proved that The Maker is not real. Maybe he proved that Andraste was just a powerful mage ... whatever it is it must have hit chantry in the sensitive spot for it to fall apart.

Maybe some kind of conspiracy in regards to Andrsate, The Maker, Darkspawn and the Black City ... I can already feel great story coming =)

And the combat improvments sound good as well.

this game sounds awesome and I don't see the problem of having more action in it. As long as I can still make decisions and kinda guide the story then it's still a roleplaying game to me and that is what matters. I wonder how side quests will work? will the narrator talk about those?

hmm, I like the story concept. A 3rd-party unreliable narrator telling your legend, sounds cool. I can imagine some of the control freaks on this forum are having a fit though :P

Changing it to make it more action-orientated could mean anything, not necesarrily like Dynasty Warriors.

"That framed narrative is the key, however -- BioWare isn't just turning the sequel into "Dragon Effect," it's actually baking a story into the game that allows the developers to go bigger cinematically and thematically."

Oh, so its official now. It will be an "RPG" just like ME2....

everyone should really listen to the Dragon Age 2 podcast. Mike Laidlaw explains in detail how the demo was made easy for PR reasons, and that wouldn't be the case in-game. Overall a super 1st podcast.

Again, EVERYONE should listen to it.

I wonder how far the embellishments will go in the retelling. Will we see Hawke slice down a 4 story ogre with his mighty sword?
