I never really thought of the warden as my character. I had fun creating him but I never thought of him as mine and never really felt close to it, it's just a game. Dragon Age Origins is awesome but I never felt like the character was a part of me in any sense.
No one ever said anything about it being a part of you. However something doesn't have to be a part of you to be yours.

"The DLC is designed to be for high-tier characters to traverse a punishing dungeon against high level enemies. While the DLC was never named (nor was the name of the dungeon), the focus of this new content is entirely combat based encouraging players to use their tactics against hordes of enemies. This also means that you should not expect any story elements ala Awakening"
Don't expect stories, don't expect continuation, don't expect good plot.
Your character no longer fits the worlds of Bioware.Your character was never the Kratos clone you will play in the next game.

Well it can be argued that he's no more your character than Hawke will be, except that the Warden had six origins (still pre-defined) to choose from and Hawke will have one.
And it's a valid argument which is for the most part correct (The fact Hawke's story is purposely being retold as an exaggerated story means that anything we say and do can all be a lie and ultimately that would mean the real Hawke, if that is ever gone into, isn't actually our character, we only created his false and bloated legend). Stating the Warden isn't your own character however isn't and that was the theme of this thread.

But he didn't directly imply that the character is OWNED by bioware, but rather, the character is what BioWare made him/her to be. Which is true. It's BioWare that gave us the choice, even if near unlimited. Then we of course make a selection of choices, but still, we aren't 100% free to do whatever we want.Arttis wrote...
Not saying part of you....you just own that character.

Again that doesn't mean it can't also be our own character as well. BioWare created molds but it was we who filled those molds, baked it, and stuck it together is each of our own unique shapes and sizes. It's kind of like giving Lego the credit for building the castle you made; sure it was their blocks you used and without them there would be no castle, but they are there and at the end of the day you built and designed that castle in your own unique way.

there is all this talk by some people about the grey warden being your character. I want to be the warden again! he's my character! but really how much is he really your character? you don't really get to choose what he says you choose what Bioware lets you chooses, the story takes you where Bioware wants it to go. This isn't a table top roleplaying game where your character talks the way you want him to. You are limited to what Bioware wants you to do so they can tell their story. Once again The Grey Warden is Bioware's no matter what you want to believe.
Nor was the/your Grey Warden all that special. He/she defeated a blight that had barely come to fruition.
There are stories of actual "badassedness" in Warden leaders, who did have to fight real Blights.

The Warden definitely isn't my character. If he was, he would've stabbed Alistair and deserted, instead of that stupid saving the world rubbish.
Yes, but all RPGs present a certain amount of restrictions. If the restrictions aren't there, the story is bland, practically non-existent. It removes the complexity of choice, since the game can't account for everything you're going to do. If you buy and play a game, you come into it expecting certain things to be beyond your control.

Thats what I was getting at. Its not your character because most of the things you're going to are beyond your control.

Then you, personally, will never play a character that you feel is your own. No matter what, things are always assumed about your character when you play a game. Technically you could just stand around in Castle Cousland until the cows come home, but then you're not really playing a game. You have plenty of options about how your character handles situations, what they feel is right, how they speak, whom they like. It goes on.
