Bah, I do not like the game direction at all.

I love the Elder Scrolls series cause I have "my own" character, and I loved Dragon Age: Origins because I played as "my own character" whom I created, spent time customizing and made decisions based on what I'd do in that particular situation.

Now this Hawke.

Gah I don't even want to think about the spectacular failure this game will be for me.

Not to mention the carebear WoW zombie darkspawn.

I'll probably rent DA2 and if it's not complete trash *MAYBE* I'll buy it.

Again, you can believe what you like about what does and does not constitute badass, but I rate preventing death in the first place somewhere above decades of death. And, as I recall, all of those Wardens had the backing of all the countries of Thedas, years of experience fighting darkspawn, and hundreds of other Wardens at their side.

Not all the countries in Thedas fought against the blight (Ferelden never did until the 5th Blight, for example). As for other Wardens, I seem to recall our own Warden putting toghether an army of dwarves (potentially with golems, so in everyone before the 1st blight's face) ,elves/werewolves, mages/templars, and humans.

That's four independent factions the Warden can call upon, all four independently governed. Quite the the multinational force, I think.

Plus, our heroic Warden gets to live only because of Flemeth's plot. Irrelevant because of what he achieved, I'm sure you'll say, and I agree, but note that if Alistair and he die, then this blight likely progresses as all others do. Alternatively, if Duncan lived (David commented on this once) the Grey Wardens would have abandoned Ferelden as a lost cause.

Personally, the only Warden I'd rank above ours is Garahel, who had a much greater challange to overcome, with far less multinational support. All Garahel had were Teyrns from the Free Marches, and Wardens from Orlais and the Anderfels. No elves, no dwarves, no golems.

What I know about all of the Blights comes from the game itself--I've never learned anything extra from these forums, or over the Internet at all, but you may have. From what I know, they never go into detail the exact proportions of Thedas' armies, how many Wardens they had (I'm guessing more than two), the circumstances surrounding the Archdemon's defeat, or anything similar. For all we know, Garahel was actually saved by Flemeth at one point and she tried getting a god baby out of the mix. I can't imagine where Flemeth would have learned the ritual for (1) God Baby unless she tried before.

Wild Mass Guessing aside, I don't really know how hard Garahel or the other Wardens who defeated Blights had it. We do know they all had more Wardens--a very critical factor in defeating Archdemons, I should say--than Ferelden did. The Warden and Alistair/Loghain (who doesn't actually need to be there--also, am not counting the Mauve Shirt) manage to do it all by their lonesome.

The last thing I'll say is that all four factions you get were promised to the Wardens--presumably, Garahel and the others got the same amount of support. When you get them, they give you a tough time because of circumstance and when you finally manage to get them, they've already been hit pretty hard.
