Oh Noes!

I hope Bioware continue to bring new gamers to their products and wish them every sucess, I'm biased as I love their stories and games have not been let down since I was introduced to BG2.

Heads up, any business that doesn't look to increase it's consumer base is very likely to fail.

Ah yes, "console gamers are barbaric", we've already dismissed this claim.

I'm wondering just how different these "legend" parts of the game play from the actual thing though? Are they frequent or only present in the game a handful of times?

I'm wondering the same thing.  Are these "embellished tales" frequent, or just a small fraction of the overall narrative?

I'm not saying the game is doomed or anything but Gamespot? They are the last review site I would ever trust with anything. They tend to review games I like low (Gothic series for example) and games I despite high and there is the whole wierd thing with Kane and Lynch. No matter what the truth about that was I don't trust gamespot. I trust them as much as I trust any other game review site, meaning that an aggregate is generally a pretty good indicator of how good a game is. I agree that they overrate "Blockbuster" games, and underrate others. For a game like Gothic though, even while it is one of my top-10 favorite games of all time, it is still littered with terrible game design in some areas. If you ignore the numbers and actually read the reviews, they are not all that far off.

They rated Gothic low because the combat was too hard for them, and they were whining around and started bashing the game instead. That's why G4 will be incredibly dumbed down to a LOT of clicks only (or so I hear).

As for Gamespot, hell, the y are the only that say Hurlock and not orc or goblin or whatever.

They're definately biased, as all opinions/reviews, but this seemed like a pretty straight forward perspective.

Switching over to the mage resulted in a more tactical style of combat along the lines of the first game.

Sorry, but if the 1UP reviewer concluded that it's a hack & slash by trying out only a melee class, he's an idiot. Melee classes hardly need turn based combat micromanagement anyhow since Baldur's Gate.

I won't buy the game if it's a hack & slash, but if a reviewer tells if a game is hack & slash by trying out only melee, he needs to go back to Pool of Radiance to find out a tactical one, even in BG I never micromanaged my melee's.

Anyhow this is all too confusing and hardly worth dedicating time. When it's released, I'll look up some youtube videos, if it's hack & slash I skip, if it's tactical combat I buy.

Thus far, it's been the only measured, intelligent preview that's actually shown prior knowledge of the series that we've gotten out of Comic-Con; so in this case, yes I am inclined to trust them.

SSI Goldbox all the way! Though even there you really only needed to micro-manage melee because it was turn based. Anyway, both the IGN and the 1UP previews were pretty pathetic.

Haven't some Devs stated that combat is mostly unchanged on the PC, except for quicker movement/responsiveness?

This preview has really raised my opinion of the game. Before I was hopefully optimistic, now I'm back on board. It sounds like they've managed to keep the same tactical depth while making the warrior more "dynamic". Looking forward to this now.

Sure.  Not necessarily always, but in this case, it was the best written preview of the ones I've seen, with a tone that suggested that the previewer was taking things with the proper perspective and trying to avoid making undue inferrences.  By contrast, the IGN preview was the worst of the bunch, IMO.  But since I found this to be the best written preview, and the one most consistent with the known facts (what the developers have told us about facts, not just their opinions), I feel confident giving the most weight to the GameSpot preview.

Nothing's clear tbh,

dev-wise:
- yes they did say that but
- they also said, when asked if da2 is h&s, that h&s are games without story and this one will have story, totally skipping the combat bit.

review-wise:
- 1up saying it's h&s.
- gamespot saying it's not h&s.

So go figure . I'll wait for gameplay videos, h&s is skip for me, tactical combat is buy. Tbh if it wasn't for this preview, I would have totally forgotten about da2, not caring at all about it.

I'm sort of disappointed that the combat hasn't changed much; it was pretty awful on the console in DA:O.

So we are all of a sudden supposed to trust Gamespot when they say things we like to hear despite the fact they have a long history of shoddy reporting and blatant lying?

Why shouldn't people trust Gamespot? They haven't said anything we didn't know from the other previews.

Caught up, thanks for that I hadn't seen it.

However, quotes from the opening paragraph:

'unsettling rumor today from an anonymous tipster'
'the conditions under which he was allegedly dismissed '

Hardly damning, pretty much journalism of the ' a friend of a friend told me' variety, no quantifiable sources or evidence whatsoever.

Next we'll here there's no smoke without fire.....

Promising info, glad to see that the combat is more fluid, and that it isn't anywhere near as clunky..

Are you seriously trolling in every single thread? The first post in this thread except the OP was you, full of negativity and just putting a ****ing downer on everything.

You don't like the game. WE. GET. IT.

I don't come here to read your whining and trolling.

Here's another crap preview of DA2 from a norwegian site : http://bit.ly/c1rJ0I
It's google translated to english.

What the f**! What is it with these people? They've seen 10 minutes of a game that's MANY hours long. How can you base a game of just 10 minutes of it. That's just bull. Wait till the game is almost here. You've seen 10 minutes of it.
I can't stand all these bad preview's. Bioware doesn't deserve this. DA2 will be a great game. They haven't made one bad game.
