So we have five different choices and a sixth option to "investigate" which opens up more choices.  I've never played any of the Mass Effect games, so I have a question: What does the second tier of things consist of?  Is it like the first options are speech and the second are more speech or are they nonverbal commands?

They are questions which do not advance the conversation.

Stuff like "What's a templar?" and things like that? I think that makes sense; the conversations don't have to be so cluttered with you looping back around to the same questions all of the time.
