I've read a few threads that have polls on "Are you boycotting DA2?" but I haven't been able to find the reasons why people are boycotting the game, it honestly surprised me when I saw this...

Can somebody out there give me a few reasons why [apparently] DA2 is being boycotted by so many people?

It's not for sale yet, so in fact, no one is boycotting it.

Whether anyone does in the future remains to be seen.

Kordaris has become something of a legend of trolls.

Terrible trolls but trolls nontheless.

lol... it really isn't "so many"

although I hear you. I figure, "ooh, I am looking forward to this game... I'm gonna go over here and get excited about it!"

And then I just see a group of people talking about how it is going to ruin their lives because it doesn't have like two options in it that they really like. Or something.

To be fair, the poll itself wasn't calling for the boycott of the game, it was a poll asking people IF they are boycotting it. I don't care either way really, if I hear new details and I think it will suck, I just won't buy it. Right now, I'm alright with the details I've heard.

It's just a couple of random people getting overly worked up about a game. There will never be any kind of organized boycott. Eventually everyone will make it through each of the stages of grief. Seems like most are still stuck on denial or anger.

And those couple of random people create multiple accounts to cry on making the outcry seem far worse than it actually is.

A lot of people calling for boycotts are really emotional and reactionary. Not everybody of course, but enough. As soon as they hear a whiff of good news like "OMG NEW LI'S ARE SO HAWT!!!" they'll change their mind. I'm pretty sure most of those folks are going to end up buying it, probably on opening day.

Bioware is making a lot of changes with the next game and it has people concerned that DA2 will feel like a completely different game compared to DA1, and not feel like a proper sequel to the game that they loved so much.

Give it time.  Perhaps DA2 will blow everyone away, and the changes will be for the better (hopefully).  With all of the complaints, it just means that people give a damn and hope that their input will have some kind of positive effect for the future of the franchise.  Other people just like to complain.

Because raging and going all emotional about a video game you still haven't heard practically anything about it's a quite fun way to pass time apparently.

Reasons :

Hawke the PC is human.

Is named Hawke.

No more dwarves or elves.

Dialogue wheel similar to ME.

People like to whine.

Ah yes the human psyche, sometimes difficult to understand. As you say, they'll get over it soon enough.

creating multiple accounts = ban, iirc

The poll thread itself is still open for discussion so maybe we should move over there.

I remember my mum boycotting produce from South Africa because she hated Apartheid. This ... doesn't seem in the same league somehow, unless Bioware is making some kind of right-wing political statement with all the oppressed City Elves :?

I'm not gonna 'boycott' this game under any circumstances. If it looks crap closer to release then I won't pre-order, and if it looks crap upon release I won't buy it (or maybe wait until bargain bin), but I'm happy about what I've heard so far, so not worried yet :)

Thank you very much, perfect answer format.

... That's kinda sad though
In the, "People that plan on boycotting a game for such stupid reasons are stupid." sense of 'sad'.

Oh well...

it is amazing how emotional some people are getting though

most of the people making complaints are trolls, and their trolling means that anyone who may have a legitimate complaint with proper reasons is less likely to be heard

i dont really have any, the game looks awesome
