 The inventory system.

Just wanted you folks to know you're apparently not alone.

Inventory is sorely missed. Not being able to change your armor/weapons in a mission is pretty bad. They took away too much. Also, the leveling system sucks too...just a mission complete screen and number of XP given.
Levels should open up new talents/weapons etc. not just add skill points imho.

I dont mind. It is more realistic. That being said, we should have way more armor and weapons.

That Keighley has always loved Mass Effect.

I'll never forget the way he defended it on Fox news way back when ME1 came out.

The guy brought up a good point.

They removed too much. ME2 felt a lot less like an RPG, and the removal of the inventory system was part of that.

Maybe it's more realistic but: IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A ROLE PLAYING GAME!!! If you take out 50% of the RPG elements you don't have an RPG but a 3rd Person shooter with some dialogue options.

If you want a realistic game, play Flight Simulater or something like that.

I'd hate for that to be the reason ME2 misses out on a GOTY award.

We wanted inventory FIXED, not REMOVED. At least, that's what I gathered from the forums.

I really miss the old System, honestly and personally I think the new one sucks. In the Future there probably be no Ammo. We don't like need Ammo in Mass Effect. Many many other games have that, you can play those. I really do miss the old system and exploration. :(

i love mass effect 2 more than 1 but... mass effect 1 just felt more immersive. mass effect 2 does not really give you much time to breathe while on a mission. its constant action action action EXPLOSION.

mass effect one although it was too slow for my tastes you kind of got to get into the world at a more comfortable pace. in mass effect two you dont really get a sense of the world. maybe thats because most of the hub area's are so small. omega the citadel i'm looking at you. i love the fact that pretty much the entire citadel in me1 was accesable by just walking everywhere. it kind of felt like a real place. and i'm kind of sad that we didnt get to go back to the places on the citadel that were in ME1 and see how they evolved over the two years

i dont miss the inventory but as was said earlyer in this thread we should have alot more weapons and armor. and i kinda like that bioware keeps adding new weapon in DLC and stuff with new models etc. but i feel those should have been part of the game on day one.

just my 2 cents

Yes. Excactly my thoughts on this topic. The ME1 inventory was not very user friendly but I loved al the different weapons & armor & stuff. And I also loved the character system (skills, abilities, etc.). I didn't want it to be removed but to me more user friendly. I miss the looting and I don't like the fact that there are only a few things to buy in the stores on Citadel, Illium & Omega.

And I miss the character system of ME1. E.g. it's just ridiculous that in ME2 everyone can hack systems now. I liked it better in ME1 that you had to play either as a tech or have a tech exper on your team to be able to hack systems. In ME2 it doesn't matter who is on your team. In ME1 it was an important decission before almost every mission.

I agree that they went to far with the changes. But I don't really expect them to change anything back for ME3. I can always hope though.

I definitely miss looting, and that shops constantly changed their items.

I wanted an inventory overhaul. Apparently, so did those reviewers.

I also like how missions were more varied in structure in ME1.

Now its all-

1. Arrive.

2. Shoot anything that moves.

3. Leave.

I agree, let hope BioWare in future Mass Effect bring back old things and add new things. Make it fair for both and different type of players. It be sweet also in future games or expansions, you can play as another race than human. I just miss miss the old Invent that they should have done better with. The weapons and armor as well the old exploration, the freedom you had than limits.

I'm glad the inventory system from ME1 isn't in ME2. It was a burden. How do people enjoy turning 20 items into omnigel after every battle? That is not fun. And it was annoying to navigate, changing ammo types in ME1 was annoying, and all the "loot" was useless because you could buy the best weapons very early in the game. And the guy's favorite game of 2010 was Alan Wake... I think that speaks for itself.

Those guys didn't really know much about video games either. They thought that Halo: Reach is basically going to be Halo 3 v2, when there is SO much different in Reach than in Halo 3.

Yeah ME1 felt like real life with all the terrible frame rate dips and texture pop-ins...

I don't hate ME2. And I'm not ignorant. I like most parts of the game (story, characters, combat system, etc.) and in fact IMO it's one of the top 10 games of the last 5 years.
I only dislike the fact, that most RPG were removed in ME2. (inventory, looting, most character skills & abilities, etc.).

ME1 was an Action RPG. And no matter what yo're saying: ME2 also was supposed to be an Action RPG. Now it's more like an 3rd person shooter with some RPG elements and dialogue options. I really hope that ME 3 will combine all positive aspects of both games (Combat system of ME2, improved inventory and character system of ME1) to create the ultimate game.

In Mass Effect 1, there were only 4 weapons - shotguns, pistols, sniper rifles, and assault rifles. And I say that because the only thing that made them different was "this one has higher stats." After you get Spectre gear everything else is worthless. In Mass Effect 2 the weapons are far more unique. While I prefer the Carnifex Hand Cannon due to its superior single shot damage, I see other people use the Predator since it deals higher total damage (due to its ammo capacity) and can fire faster. I like using the Tempest on a Vanguard (charge + subgun spray = some super fast kills) but prefer the Locust on an Infiltrator, since it has superior acuracy.

What's wrong with someone liking Alan Wake? Its like he said and we said- We wanted ME1's inventory IMPROVED, RENOVATED, and CHANGED. Not removed.

I think we can all agree that an improved ME1(inventory, story, etc etc)+an improved ME2(combat)=ME3(the perfect game)

Yeah. its WAY more realistic that in completely removing a cluttered and horribly flawed system they implemented a new where you are basically restricted to GIFT SHOPS (minus the small amount of N7 armour pieces and boring static upgrades).

Still, I suppose the gift shop system kind of suits the fact that all the hubs are pretty much glorified shopping malls with little to do of any major substance.

Seriously, Im glad Bioware decided the inventory system in ME1 needed addressing in ME2, but their take leaves a lot to be desired. Its like cauterizing a patients wound by burning them to death.

Agreed, MarchWaltz.  I love options.  But when those options are countless replicas with only marginally different stats, they aren't as meaningful as they should be.

Thank you.

I'd take that same explanation(cauterizing by burning to death) with the Mako and its levels.

But that's a whole nother topic.
