why is it that every game has to be first person shooter? why mess up something that is fine the way it is?

I'm not the op, but seriously, way to miss the point. All you ever say is the same thing over and over again in both threads. "Not everything has to be an FPS", And while you are entitled to this opinion (and I agree for the most part), you bring it up when it isn't warranted.

and yet the same topics are made 50 times a day so your argument is? you give me crap for repeating but i dont see you doing a damn thing about same threads being reposted

I've stated my position in topics like this already, and I don't feel the need to repeat the same trite over and over again. We get it, you don't want Mass Effect to be an FPS, you only need to say that line once. And my issue with your post is that you quoted something, and then your response didn't relate to the quote at all, besides mentioning FPS. And you aren't doing a damn thing either, in fact, by posting in this thread, you only perpetuate the topics by bumping them up to the top of the board. I didn't mean to get hostile or anything, but your responses tend to end up being very forceful (imo). These topics are not made "50 times a day", there are only a few topics that people post in consistently. Just read this, think about it for a second, and if you still want to argue, I'll go ahead and do that. <3

i admit i am forcefull but seriously though how many times do we have to see the same thing posted non stop? either the newbies are trolling or they honestly are stupid and cant grasp what this franchise is.

BTW, those that say Mass Effect 2 was catered to consoles...I can't see why. I absolutely can't imagine playing that game with anything other than a Keyboard and Mouse.

Just look at how the HUD and key bindings were changed to make it easier for consoles, while eliminating several (important) quick keys for PCs.

wait one second if you hate Mass Effect 2 for being a shooter more than a rpg thats your right but to sit here and spew the same ol bullsh*T about consoles and us console owners being the reason why a game gets changed is starting to ****** me off. The Mass Effect franchise started out on the xbox 360. so i am not sure what you mean by us console gamers changed the franchise. EA did the right thing in making Mass Effect 2 more of a shooter game. like the one guy said Mass Effect 1 was a poor attempt at merging a shooter and rpg. Lets be honest the 2 greatest selling games of all time are Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 they are both FPS games. RPG games are not the dominate genre in the video game industry if it was Mass Effect 2 would have been more of a rpg game. EA knows that shooters sell and more people will buy a game that has shooting in it. Bioware had to fix the game play from ME 1 and they did in ME 2.

So why has ME2 not sold over 4 million copies then huh?

one reason why because it does not have multi player and as we all know multi player games are what drives xbox live. if Mass Effect 2 had either co op or multi player it would have sold more than 4 million.

Well, the reason people criticize consoles for changing games  is because they keep changing games to suit consoles. Less buttons, simpler interfaces, slower combat. These are all changes to make it playable on consoles. Not that I blame devs for taking that approach. It's as much PC gamers fault as i is the console's. Console games outsell PC games by a large margin. Coupled with the ease of development, a stable setup that doesn't need to accomodate nearly endless configurations, and that fact that PC gamers gripe out of a sense of entitlement does little to help the issue. Take Crysis. PC gamers  always ask for games that keep pushing the boundaries of tech. Crysis delivered a game that 3 years down the road still chokes top of the line computers at max settings. The PC crowd promptly responded by making it one of the most pirated games in recent memory. So given the choice between making games for a large player base that will readily consume whatever your selling as long as they like it, vs a smaller base of hardcore gamers who will scream if you make a game that doesn't specifically cater to their desires..... Well if I made games, I'd probably make them for the console, too.

However, while the CoD games may have sold 4 million apiece, Britney Spears sold nearly 9 million of her 1st album. That doesn't mean it's good.

Why you say something is not good when it's selling alot?

I mean it's good to someone who's buying it, but not necassary for others. If game doesn't sell much it can still be good, but there is alot of players who did not like it enough to buy it. So, yes selling more means it's better in one thing, more people likes it. Who are those people are other question. My point that saying, "selling more doesn't make game good", is little misleading, because it's still more accurate than saying, "selling less makes game good". There is correlation between numbers of sold and how good the game is, no-one here can deny this. How ever, that doens't mean some game what is sold less can't be better. But better to who is the question?

Yes, console games has small negative affect to PC games. How ever, many game company who does both games also tries to minimize the negative aspect for PC by creating little different interfaces. What is interesting does PC side has any negative effect to console side games?

As for main topic. Yes, I have also find it very "unpolite" behavior in this forum to hate shooters, just because they like sertain type of games. I my self hate FPS games. That doesn't how ever, mean I hate shooter players. Why would I. They play the games what they like. Just because those games aren't for me, doesn't mean I should hate players who play them. That would be like rasist way to look situations.

Could it because because target customer base size for product?

Only people who buy some products are the people who are interested that type of producs. Not all products has same size of customer base. Cars are sold a lot more than helicopters, why?

The Mass Effect franchise started on the 360 so pc gamers really have nothing to complain about.

Sorry, but the ME series shouldn't be more of a shooter rather than RPG because shooters are the dominant and best selling genre in gaming (you talk like the others genres shouldn't even exist), not while it is marketed as an action/RPG hybrid, If ME (as series) was marketed as a pure shooter i would pass easily,
woudn't even bother...
But, it was advertised as an action/RPG so it
caught my interest (RPG combat in itself was never my thing).

If it's gonna continue to be an action/RPG hybrid they either have to make a decent RPG to go with the shooter parts or just dump it all and make it a full blown shooter with multiplayer (probably the best decision in terms of sells).

A bit off topic but, how do you guys even play a shooter with a controller?????
I tried at my friends house and man... what an awful thing...
I'd rate myself average/good with mouse and keys, but with a controller... i couldn't move, aim, do anything...
How shooters made it on consoles is beyond me...

Seriously, kudos to the guys that are good at it.

It all depends on whatever you prefer/started with. If I you played your first shooter on a console, and were primarily a console gamer, a controller would seem natural. If you want a hard shooter to play on a console, try Quake II on the N64: Worst Controls Ever. Now since most everything is standardized (l analog moves you, right analog is camera, X is usually reload, A/Y  is usually jump, right trigger is shoot, left trigger is aim/or throw grenade, bumpers are grenades or weapon switches, d-pad is various abilities/gadgets), for the most part they are usually very similar.

That's why Halo is held in such high regard. It didn't really bring anything new to the FPS genre, but it showed how to do a console FPS right. I think a lot of the hate it spawns is because newer players seem to think it's the first FPS ever made. If you've played FPS for years, it's like trading your motorcycle for a kid's bike with training wheels.

Yeah, i saw how they managed to fit all basic shooter commands into a limited (in comparison) controller.
I just couldn't get them through my thick skull, i was worthless, a dead weight for my team, and i mean veeeeery worthless, embarassing really :P

You're absolutely right, it's a matter of getting used to it, but it would take some time for me.
I have a controller on my PC that i use for sports games, fighting, adventures etc... i'm used to it and i do fine, but shooters... I wouldn't dream of  playing ME in the controller.
