I like her for a few reasons...

1. ME1 Noglastia

2. Mystery around the character

3. Banter with Garrus

4. Arguably the cutest romance. It's very D'aawwwwwww...

5. Emotionally moving Loyalty mission (talihugz anyone?)

I don't like how people are starting to dislike her because she's liked. It's stupid.

people be hatin'

People are argumentative by nature. If all you do is brag about how awesome a character is non-stop, eventually someone will start to disagree.

Am I seriously the only person who thought all of the romances were awful? The only ones that even seemed remotely believable were Garrus and Tali's because Shepard has known them long enough.

Basically I just picked the characters I liked to romance and find all this bickering about whose romance is the best hilarious.

Agreed. Most of them seemed far too abrupt. I'm of the opinion that ME3 shouldn't have romances because of things like that, but making a thread about it would just be trawling for death threats.

Tali is one of my top three characters, but not as an LI.

Doesn't mean much, some of the other character support threads have gotten closed and had to start over for getting off topic, for some reason the tali one gets a pass...

There had been 4 threads before it, adding to a total of approximately 18,000 pages.
Yeah.

Its gonna be bad if they devote hours and hours to tali in ME3 and then give the other LIs cameos. I mean if they don't have any of the other LIs as squad mates in ME3 then as far as I'm concerned Tali may not survive the ME2 suicide mission... yeah, about that multicore shielding...

I truly have no Idea what these guys see in her. She is deformed, nothing close to pretty and looks like a robot (which is why it's weird to find her attractive.). Her accent is terrible and she isn't a very well developed character. I don't get it but they like her still.

Some people say it's just a giant troll movement. But trolls aren't that dedicated and obsessed.

I disagree about development; I think she's one of the best-developed characters across ME1 and ME2. The accent seemed fine to me (pretty much every race has some unique accent), but I definitely agree about the deformity. Honestly, when I first looked at the forum I expected her to be completely unliked because she looks like 50% machine. I didn't personally mind because I like machines in general, but...am I missing something about the appearance? I really expected Miranda to be the one with the biggest cult following.

Well in my opinion she isn't a terrible character but her dialogue and development are weak compared to others.

ALSO what annoys me about tali is....SHE'S USLESS story wise we don't need her when we get a superinteligent uber consenous building geth and master thief hacker...think shes only a squadmate cause of huge fan following.

Kasumi is a DLC character and Legion is nearly always the last squadmate you get--Also, Shepard most likely wasn't going around expecting to side with a Geth at any point until the derelict Reaper.

Made perfect sense to me.

Nobody liked her until ME2. That's when It all started. I think. I don't really know.

I liked her in ME1.

Liked her in ME2 for the similar reasons, which is to say, for plenty of causes which were NOT the romance. Something about the addition of the romance might be what screwed everything up. :/

Like 50% of the topics on the original Mass Effect forums were people begging for Tali and Garrus romances.

Yeah, well, the whole cult following deal makes it hard for those of us with justifiable opinions to get much respect on the subject. I detailed the problems with this in another thread, but to summarize, the group of extremist Talimancers generally wound up screwing with the public's impressions of the character and anybody who supports the character even slightly; I can list several supported reasons why she is in my top 3 favorite characters, but of course nobody cares and I'm just one of the "horde" in terms of public view. Others are probably in a similar situation.

It's sort of a pain, but I guess every forum has to have its HERP DERP somewhere or other.

You pretty much get ****ed at for liking any character that isn't Legion or Garrus. Espeically if the character is a LI.

A bunch of 12 year old's actually dedicated a hategroup to me because I admitted to liking Jacob and Jack =/

I dunno about this.  There were a number of rather long threads on the old Bioboards devoted to Tali.  Heck, a popular theory (true or not) is that all the interest in her lead to her inclusion as an LI in ME2 as fanservice.

This, same is true for Garrus.  Talimancers are not a recent occurrence.  And I remember watching a developer interview WAY back when before Tali was even announced as a squaddie in ME 2 that the devs were surprised by the amount of admiration for a certain "little character" in ME1 and decided to bring her back.  He even got nervous because he accidentally dropped the "her" pronoun because they hadn't officially announced it yet.  Also, many women were screaming for a malien option on the old boards.  It started in earnest right after the Thane demo first came out.  But there are older Garrus threads from WAY back when right after ME1 came out.
