The Ancient Darkspawn, for some superficially odd reason, has decided that it wasn't important to die at the hands of my Grey Warden. He has been either bugged not to show up at all and is not registering in the game, or he has been spawned somewhere else, maybe..
Anyone able to fill me in on this? Is this some new disease, so to speak, as a result of lack of patch? Or do you guys believe it actually might be something random and I just happened to be screwed? Wouldn't be surprising with all that has been happening to everyone else..

Had no problem with him. He spawns only when you have active quest "The Admirable Topsider". Hard to miss when you explore the part of Deep roads where he spawns, since he's incredibly overpowered.

I went down the road that he spawns, and he doesn't show up. Perhaps there is some sort of level requirement to face him?

you have to kill and loot the genlock emissary at caridins cross hes right where the genlock runners head just follow them you wont miss him
loot Ruck's place it should be in the urn or barrel at Ortan Thaig
Examine the Warriors Grave at Ortan Thaig
Kill and loot the Ancient Darkspawn
Go back to the warriors grave and loot it at Ortan thaig
and you should get one of the better swords that is a great help against the archdemon

The dwarves of Orzammar are actually the first of three main parties I recruit in my story, for story purposes coordinating companions, mainly Sten. I was searching on Dragonagewiki, and to my dismay, there are no conditions revealed to trigger his appearance that I know of.
There was, however, no mention that I had started the Topsider's Honor chain either, so perhaps that might be it. Now, as far as actually doing the quest goes, I am more than familiar with it and know how to complete it; my elf mage just never actually bothered to find the first piece. He's the "squire" of my main character in role play, and thus doesn't actually use the sword himself.

You went to the Topsider's Grave, correct?
I don't think he will appear unless you visit the grave.
And I got very adequate usage out of the sword, so
to the rest of you.

Was also gonna disagree against the lack of utility from Topsider's Honor since I got it earlier than most, in fact Alistair made excellent use of it before passing it onward to Zevran!
