Downloaded the EA digital verion of ME on my desktop and laptop and cannot run it on either:
On the desktop I can run the config utility if I run the .exe from the binaries folder but the game crashes whenever I try to run the actual game. Before I reinstalled it I was getting a WINMM.dll error.
System Details
CPU: Q9450
9800GTX driver version: 258.96
sound: Xonar DX, driver version: 6.12.8.1764
Vista Home Premium x64
DX10
4 gb ddr2 ram
Problem: when launching the game .exe it shows the splash screen then freezes. I've run as administrator and in various compatability modes but the game always just freezes when it starts up. This is the second installation; the first time I got the WINMM.dll error, reregistered that, then got the crashes. Reinstalling did not help.
My laptop will actually run the game if I launch the game .exe from the binaries folder but not the launcher. It will not run the config at all. I can change the settings in-game but am unable to select the 16:10 aspect because the launcher will not run. I have run as administrator and in the various compatability modes to no avail.
Win 7 Home Premium x64
Intel Core i720
Nvidia 330m
Realtek HD audio
DX11
At least I can play it somewhat on the Vaio notebook.
Another Mass Effect crashing on Vista and W7 thread :)

I got on chat with EA. They do not support Windows 7 so I'm on my own with that.
On my desktop the tech pretty much had me do a dxdiag and he said the system is fine and to reinstall. I did that already but did it again and made sure to turn off anti virus, spyware and all of that and got a dsound.dll error. I reinstalled without clearing the cache in the EADM and the dsound.dll error went away but went back to freezing on the launch screen.
I tried to be specific in the above post so I'm updating hoping that someone will have a suggestion. Thx.
