Hello

I just signed up to this after pre order on steam. Now i tried to register my game but it needs a CD key? I cant remember getting a CD key when i payed for the pre order. I've looked thru my email but all I can find is the "thank you for your purchase" mail from Steam.

will i get the CD key when the game is released or how does it work? did i miss something during my purchase from steam?

Peace!

usually games on steam gives you the CD-key when you enter the game for the first time..

Guess you'll have to wait then

As far as we webmonkeys have been told, the steam purchase will somehow get you a regular-type DA cdkey.

edit: just got confirmation of this from a dev - they say steam has "the same CD Keys and stuff as all the other DA versions".

With steam applications with associated CD Keys, the first time (and subsequent times until you manually disable the feature), a CD key will be presented in a small dialog box which runs "in front of" the actual game in the bottom right hand corner.

Pressing Shift Tab to access community features at that time will place the CD key dialog in the full screen view until you use the community features key combination again to return to your game, full screen.

I have Starwars: KotOR through steam and I can't seem to find the key for that to register it, I also have pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe DA:O game and can't get the key for that (though it's not released and can wait till it is to get that key) however I would still like to be able to obtain the KotOR key so I can register that game with my profile. I've tried looking around in steam client and running teh game, as well as checking other places, however I simply can't seem to find the CD Key to register it.

Is there anyone out there that might be able to help out with this? Clocks, if I some how disabled the feature to show the key, I don't remember ever doing that or seeing it, but if I did somehow, do you know how to get it to come back or to view it another way?

KotOR doesn't actually have a unique "key" for each copy.

Dragon Age will :-)

Why would they give out the key before release? It's not like you can use it for anything yet. Register, sure, big deal.

You are entirely correct, steam does not have an associated key for KotOR purchased through steam.  Thus it is somewhat of a moot point.

Your dragon age key will not be made available to you until the game is made available in the client.  Much of when the key is made available to you in my experience is kind of game by game.  The earliest a key ever goes out is when they make pre-load available for a game.  Sometimes the key is then available in your game properties, etc.  Depending on how the backend stuff works for DA:O, you may not see your key until the first time you are able to run the game itself.  You would then get a dialog which displays your key and instructs you to write it down to use for the game.

The only thing you can do right now on steam is verify which version of the game you have purchased.

To do so, go to http://store.steampowered.com and click the Log In link.  Enter your steam username and password.  Once logged in, click the link which is your steam ID and the word account from the top right.  A list of current title licenses will display.  Underneath that, you can scroll down and see your recent purchases.  DAO should show up as either Dragon Age: Origins (non-deluxe) or Dragon Age: Origins - Digital Deluxe (deluxe).

One other note, in-game purchased content WILL work with a steam-based title.  One game where you can reference how this has worked in the past is Burnout Paradise.

Not sure about DA:O as I haven't ordered it through Steam. But I did buy Mass Effect from Steam not so long ago, and with that you just right click on it in your "My Games" list and you can click view CD-key.

Hope that helps (although I assume you might've tried that already :D)

With the serial you can register your game yes, which allows you to download the DA:O toolset which many many people are desperate to get their hands on (including myself! :D)

I was under the impression the toolset is in closed beta and yet without a release date.

Yeah, there is no cd-key (at least a viewable one) for the steam purchase. Seeing as all the files are encrypted until release, I'm guessing also some file that includes the CD-key to decrypt @ release. :)
