You know how when characters go into battle they make a comment such as "Die foul beasts!" Or something along those lines? Mannerisms too would also add character. I watch Lord Of Rings, it's like Dragon Age but alot better. You see it too probably but not remember this bit too well.

At end of movie when Uruk-hai fight Fellowship, when Viggo Mortensen about to engage  them in combat he doesn't just run up to them and start swinging like generic action hero man, he does a small mannerism thing were it  looks like he is blessing his sword without actually saying anything. This is a good small detail, should be stolen for Dragon Age 2 as sporadically used (as in not constantly) pre-baked animations to give characters more physical character outside of class.

I notice you really, really like Lord of the Rings, and think it should have more influence over DA2. Me, I'm glad for the differences. We have enough LotR clones out there.

I thought the art in DA2 was to show that it wasn't so similar to LOTR?

Mannrisms need not be exactly like Lord Of The Rings. In Halflife 2 when player stare at Alyx Vance like pervert for a few minutes she reacts nervously. When playing shine flashlight directly in her face close, she reacts and covers it up. These small details like Lord Of The Rings sword blessing.

One of the problems with a non-vocal fight "mannerism" is that unless you are controlling that character you probably won't see it. Still, it would be cool if maybe they did a little something after the fight. A religious character might bow his head in prayer or a cocky rogue might dust himself off.

Rubbish Hero wasn't comparing DA story with LOTR, in fact no one even mentioned anything about the two franchise's storylines, all that was being said basically was that "wouldn't it be cool if your characters had little subtle mannerisims similar to what one of the main characters did in a fantasy film (in this case the first lotr film) before heading into battle."

Personnally I think it would be kinda neat.....by no means necessary but cool nonetheless.

How are these even mannerisms?  Nobody likes being stared at, and having Alyx react to it in HL2 just made the game more atmospheric.  Same with shining the light in her eyes.  She was supposed to be reacting like a real person.

More animations are always good I guess, but I don't see how Bioware could create mannerisms for your character that would actually reflect how you perceive your character to be.   Praying before a battle wouldn't really mesh with my version of Hawke.

I not say single character or even your character.
You bring up good point through your bad point that not very good, in old CRPG player get to choose voice and personality as well as physical appearance. Add option for physical mannerism type too. All Dragon Age character like copy-paste Cp30 arms, suck big balls.

He's actually raising his sword in salute, not praying, but sure. Not every character would do that before entering battle.

You know what I love about these forums? The fanboys are so quick to dismiss any idea or product that hasnt been made or used by Bioware in some shape or form as rubbish even if they dont have any reason why the idea wouldnt work, I mean you accuse Rubish Hero of wanting Bioware to turn Dragon Age into Lord of the Rings when all he was doing was using the Lord of the Rings as an example to illustrate his idea. If you diddnt want Thedas to turn into Middle Earth then you should criticise Bioware for using Dwarves and Elves (there is a loophole for using Dwarves and Elves in a way that is not ripping off Middle Earth however as far as I know Bioware diddnt use it).

TO me you are wrong...David's stories are so far nothing new.
LOTR at least when i first saw it  was new...probably because i was still a young kid when the first one came out...how long ago...cant quite remmeber.
Your idea rubbish hero is good but I think it should be able to be done either very quickly or on the move.

Would this loophole be that Tolkien didn't invent Elves and Dwarfs (which is the correct plural of Dwarf, not Dwarves) and he took them from Norse mythology?

Well it does seem like a good idea but unless you arent controlling the character you cant see it.But if it were to happen in a mini - cutscene where the party like gets ready for action and they all have a different animation. For example a rogue might sharpen his blades on one another or a warrior could like bash his sword on his shield to get some adrenaline rushing. But it should be kept for more special battles like boss fights or maybe a large battle with many enemies

No I am pretty sure that the correct plural of dwarf is dwarves but you are correct about Tolkien not creating them, however most fictional worlds seem more Tolkien inspired rather than inspired by old Germanic myths and legends, while Dragon Age does use a few elements that are common to the old Germanic myths my point is would Bioware have used elves and dwarves if it wasnt for Middle Earth and all the other worlds that followed it that made elves and dwarves a popular fantasy race?

Well see that makes me confused, as Tolkein admitted that he wrote it incorrectly as Dwarves so as to fit better with Elves. But once he had finished the book he was annoyed that he didn't use the traditionally correct Dwarrows, which I shall be using form now on ^_^

I have a much better idea. Let's just put Vigo Mortensen in the game and have him fight urukai, just for a little bit. Then him and hawke could team up and fight the darkspawn like jackie chan and chris tucker in rush hour..THEN all the darkspawn form a circle and they start yelling gibberish and move from side to side waving their arms like the puddies from Power Rangers and we fight them one at a time.

Using your sword to salute isn't exclusive to LOTR movies.

The idea would be nice in cutscenes before duels like the one at the Landsmeet.

Basically OP, you want's class taunts/celebrations? I like the idea.

Ex: A mage calling down lighting, a sword and shield fighter, drumming his shield.

it is always good if characters don't all use the same animation/movement sequences

I agree! In fact, we have characters who can not only walk in their own way (gone is the "man walk" of DAO's female characters! Yay!) but have their own idle animations and such. It's a brave new world, my friend. :)

Glad to hear, this is the very first news that doesn't worry me the slighest and makes me actually look forward to DA2 (yeah I am terribe, I know) :D

Think about possible additional moves for dual wielders, unarmed combaters, young kids,  old people, crazy people, and cheeky young cleptomaniacs

ah yes, and animals, like cats, dogs, parrots (and horses?)

...As long as none of them say, "Show me your moves!"

(I don't have anything particularly against Smash Bros, just... not in this context)
