it is always good if characters don't all use the same animation/movement sequences
I agree! In fact, we have characters who can not only walk in their own way (gone is the "man walk" of DAO's female characters! Yay!) but have their own idle animations and such. It's a brave new world, my friend.

You know how when characters go into battle they make a comment such as "Die foul beasts!" Or something along those lines? Mannerisms too would also add character. I watch Lord Of Rings, it's like Dragon Age but alot better. You see it too probably but not remember this bit too well.
At end of movie when Uruk-hai fight Fellowship, when Viggo Mortensen about to engage them in combat he doesn't just run up to them and start swinging like generic action hero man, he does a small mannerism thing were it looks like he is blessing his sword without actually saying anything. This is a good small detail, should be stolen for Dragon Age 2 as sporadically used (as in not constantly) pre-baked animations to give characters more physical character outside of class.

...but my favorite by far is Anders shaking out his hands after killing the darkspawn with the Flame Blast when you first meet him. I don't know why I love it so much but I just do.

So wait, you want to force the player to perform an animation before he or she becomes responsive to the command? Ludicrous.

i like the idea too, or even after the battle, like victory poses, but also agree it should be used sparringly.
i am just worried that if it happens to be BEFORE the battle, and it's a surprise one or a particularly difficult one I would be screaming "NPC! Stop doing that/playing with your sword and just KILL/STAB that darkspawn!"
Hope it wasn't replaced with some sort of "sexy walk" straight out of Poser nonsense, thoughDavid Gaider wrote...
