to automatically generate (and how realistic/expensive) it would be to say a character's first name. Obviously something ridiculous like Kra'lith'vorel etc might be a bit beyond it, but what about popular first names?

Although the game was kinda meh, I remember Grid actually had this in (of course, being that my real life name is John, I found my name in the list pretty damn easily and quickly). I guess if this feature would be added, people would purposely try to break the functionality, but still... maybe I'm alone in wishing for this sort of extra 'immersion.'

Anyway, just a thought and I was wondering if anyone agreed with the basic premise.

Are you asking how expensive it would be for the computer to be able to say, out loud, a name that you enter in?

The thing is you would have to do that with probably half the characters/npcs that talks to you...so you would have ridiciously long list for like half of your voice cast...But they would need to say that name in the context of the whole sentence...meaning they have to use the right tone of voice, for that it fits in the scene....so that means that each voice actor would have to go through the list of hundreds of names Multiple! times!

Yeah, emotional variances would be the hardest thing to map, but that could probably be read in during a line of dialogue based off mathematical data following voice pitch etc and 'changed' (like running it through something like a voice synthesizer). Obviously it's going to eat some processor cycles, but it'd be interesting to see how just how many after it left the prototyping phase.

I think we will see that the moment we reach a point in gaming where we actually type the answer in ourselfs! and the AI/KI/NPC/Whatever reacts absolutely accurate.
