That might be a sad news for DA2 PC (PC Magazine Scan Inside)

Today I bought the new issue of "Giochi per il Mio Computer" wich is an italian magazine dedicated exclusively to PC gamers. This month there's a a preview of Dragon Age 2 and a little text box came to my attention since it talks about the Toolset.

The tex box says (I translate from italian):

Bioware ensures that the PC version of Dragon Age 2 will offer an experience really similar to Dragon Age: Origins. Beside it is almost sure that DA 2 contents won't be compatible with the Origins editor and it is not sure a Toolset release for this second episode.

Some weeks ago I opened a thread regarding the Toolset (you can find it here) but Bioware didn't answer my question and that made me think about. Now that I read that preview I am almost sure that there won't be any Toolset for the PC version and that make me sad. I mean it is not such a big deal but a confirmation from Bioware will be much appreciated and fair.

What do you guys think about that?

EDIT Since I don't know if it is allowed or not to post magazine scans I'll wait for you guys to tell me. You can ask for the screen in PM ofcourse. It's just a text box by the way so maybe I can, just let me know.

They weren't sure if they'd release a toolset for DAO until a few month prior to release either IIRC.

Why do you think they never released a toolset for ME?

So they can charge us for stuff we can make ourselves. I'd do the same in their place

Well I think they simplay havent made up their mind about it yet :)

It is probably something optional, that they start if they still got time and DA2 is polished and ready...or when the programmers needed for tthe Toolset are finished with their part in DA2.

Didn't know about that, beside can someone confirm that the engine is the same from ME? I'm pretty sure I read about that somewhere but I don't remember...

That's really a shame....the toolset was one of the best features of DAO on the pc.........I hope they continue to have the toolset for DA2. So much creativity came out of players who utilized the toolset, Wardens Keep was made with the toolset as well.

Having the toolset from DA:O incompatible with DA2 doesn't mean there is not going to be one, but I do think they are not going to release one. *sigh

They better either give a lot of support for the current toolset or give us a new one!

Rawr....Seriously....there games are better than most but without the toolset....I am gonna lose interest soon...

Magazine scans are not allowed, sadly. Of course, if it's just a textbox, then there isn't much point to scanning it anyway.

The engine is not the same. The Mass Effect series is built on the Unreal Engine. Origins uses an engine made by Bioware and DA2 will use an improved version of that.

Well I'm glad about that because it leaves a little chance for Toolset, I am not asking for an official sentence from Bioware but something like "We're working on it!" will be really appreciated

Hmm, this is unfortunate. It's always nice to have a toolset to see what kinds of content people come up with. However, I'm not too broken up about it, as the vast majority of the mods were either these really juvenile sex mods or hair style / appearance packs. Yeah, you'd get some bug fixes and game balance mods here and there too, but very few new quests/adventures. I know that it hasn't even been a year since the release of DA:O so maybe the good stuff just hasn't come out yet, but I really haven't seen any really interesting mods out there in the horizon like I have for Oblivion.

They probably did it to save development time so that they could focus on content for the sequel. Just conjecture on my part though, I could be wrong.

That hasn't stopped Bethesda. And I'd be more happy to use the inclded toolset, and buy DLC. (At this point, I will note that I have not bought any DLC for DA:O, but that's because I don't think their worth it, rather than anything to do with the toolset) ME really is dissapointing in this respect, not just because it lacks a toolset, but because it's so unfriendly to any kind of modding. For me, that really hampers the game's replayability (and if a game is less replayable, that's less incentive to buy the DLC, surely?).

My inane ramblings on the subject. Pay no notice. ^_^ As pointed out though, they weren't going to have a toolset for DA:O until months before release, so I will wait for word closer to release, but I am hoping.

Of course not, it's a "make your own story game" like Mass Effect too busy attempting to be bad emulation of Hollywood movie than video game. Also console lead platform. Pretty much any news article regarding game have keyword "disappointment". Cryengine 3, Baldurs Gate, no the Mass Effect. Game doomed, time to start over.

People, they CAN'T release a toolset for ME. It's the Unreal Engine.

How can people jump to conclusions so easily?

License. Basically, it's not their own engine so they can't release a toolset for it.

And don't feel sorry, there's no problem in asking when you don't know something, all of us are ignorant on many things. The problem is not knowing but believing the opposite.

WHAT?!
that doesn't even make sense. Just becaue the main game has a VO protagonist doesn't magically mean you can't create your own mods and modules with a mute protagonist.

After all, NPCs in DA:O, NWN I & II all had voice overs yet you could stick them in a module bade with the toolset and unless you kidnapped the VA and made him/her dub audio files they would be mute.

Its like people turn their brains off to complain:?

I'm hoping your VO means something other then voice over because that has jack shat to do with releasing a toolset.
