I want Jennifer Hale for both genders. She can manage to do it, I'm certain.

And beatboxing the entire soundtrack.

I just hope they don't make the VA for Ladyhawke as tough --Rah! I'm a commander in the military like-- as they did for Jennifer Hale. That was one of the main things that irked me about ME.

I would take a less-than-perfect line delivery of ambiguous and misinterpreted lines of text any day. I don't know how many times I've lost points with Alastair because my honest joking was taking literally.

We haven't announced our "Hawkes" yet, but rest assured that they all had to go through a fairly extensive audition, reading stuff from the game in multiple moods. Getting a main PC actor with enough range to cover the wide ranging situations they come across is a definite challenge, but really pays off when done right.

So far, I'm very happy with how both genders sound. Lots of range, good use of humor, and more than enough force when needed. If they weren't sounding good, we'd have replaced them already.

Y'know, you're not wrong in my case. I like making a hot looking male and then I like making him snog Zevran. Boy on boy. Rawr! Posted Image

Damn, now I'm wondering if Hawke's voice is supposed to be going for the whole gruff soldier type like Mass Effect tried to go for.

haha... silly yaoi loving women...

anyway, about this voice thing... maybe they've hired more than one actor for each gender... i mean, i'm hoping for at least a tough voice and a suave voice for men then a wise one and a seductive one for women...

no "Spartan" Woman then?!? ... oh oh ..

as long as it wouldn't be any "alien" species from ME1 or ME2 ... that would just lead to weird associations .:?

While I don't agree with the delivery, this message has a point.

TO be fair to Mike, Shepard's voice may have had a different objective.

It might depend on how the convos are allowed to proceed...

For example, can you switch your tone back to the default "neutral voice" track after an "aggressive" reply, or will you go along an "aggressive" version of the convo instead? The latter option would allow us to skip the inherent blandness of Shepard, but it might demand too much VO...

i have to say I am not a huge fan of female Sheppard's voice, she sounds like a man, no offense to the speaker cast for the roll. She can sound a little more feminine without sounding like a cheerleader. The grand majority of game developers tend to be male so they do not seem to understand the need for a woman to feel attractive. A lot of games just have the man-version of attractive which tends to be a little uncomfortable for females. I would like to see simpler things for women. Simple robes, simple hair styles, and a normal tone of voice. I understand the voice had strength to it, and it does, but a woman doesn't have to sound like a man to be strong. :P

Thank you for taking the time to write back Mike and thank you for putting my fears to rest. It's good to see that Hawke still has the oppurtunity to be witty and clever! I was worried that my character would have to be super serious all the time Posted Image which just isn't me lol. thanks again

I'll pray to the Flying Spaghetti Monster for this to be true.

I think the forum would be relieved if you simply told us that you're not going for the whole Gruff Van Deepvoice schtick Mark Meer has going on in Mass Effect. Because you're not going for that... right? Right?

But will we, the players, be allowed to decide when force is needed?

I assume the "red fist" lines will be delivered with a good amount of force. Plus, what do you mean "allowed to decide"? It's not like (I hope:D) Hawke will randomly deliver screamed lines like he were on a battlefield.

"I'D LIKE TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE TEMPLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARS!"
"LET'S SEE WHAT YOU HAVE IN STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE!"

You know, on second thought, that'd actually be pretty funny...

I don't want to be forced into delivering a line a certain way if that's the only way to make that point.  If I want to ask a specific question, will there generally be more than one way to do it (thus avoiding the problem of having Hawke needing information, but being unable to ask for it without breaking character)?
