I assume the "red fist" lines will be delivered with a good amount of force. Plus, what do you mean "allowed to decide"? It's not like (I hope:D) Hawke will randomly deliver screamed lines like he were on a battlefield.

I don't want to be forced into delivering a line a certain way if that's the only way to make that point.  If I want to ask a specific question, will there generally be more than one way to do it (thus avoiding the problem of having Hawke needing information, but being unable to ask for it without breaking character)?

Eh, I think the Investigate options are going to be character-neutral. The conversation options who are classified as good or bad or snarky or flirty or whatnot will probably almost never be questions. I don't think the Warden was able to ask a question without having to say "I have some questions" first. You see where I'm coming from?

i have to say I am not a huge fan of female Sheppard's voice, she sounds like a man, no offense to the speaker cast for the roll. She can sound a little more feminine without sounding like a cheerleader. The grand majority of game developers tend to be male so they do not seem to understand the need for a woman to feel attractive. A lot of games just have the man-version of attractive which tends to be a little uncomfortable for females. I would like to see simpler things for women. Simple robes, simple hair styles, and a normal tone of voice. I understand the voice had strength to it, and it does, but a woman doesn't have to sound like a man to be strong. :P

*shrug*  Jen Hale's never sounded particularly manly to me.  In some of her voice work, she has a deeper voice than your average woman (Shep, Kyoshi, Samus), but her voicing always has some punch to it, which makes sense for FemShep.  She's a goddamn Space Marine who shoots people for breakfast, punches them for lunch, and saves the galaxy before dinner.

As for the whole way females are portrayed in video games, there are a frillion things that have been said and could be said.  All I have to say is that just about anything in terms of appearance can be justified when we start talking about objectification of women in video games, from FemShep's man-walk to the hilarity of Bayonetta :innocent:

The paraphrased wheel options were often questions, but then Shepard would do something other than ask a question, which always bothered me.

Since questions can't contain information (and they can't - if they could, then they could contain false information, and that would make it possible to lie using only a question, and I have yet to see evidence of that being possible), they are starkly different from every other kind of remark.  Questions never make assertions.  All other sentence types do make assertions.  Never the twain shall meet.

For example, the wheel option might say "Then what happened?", only to produce Shepard saying "I bet that didn't make him happy."  Those are entirely dissimilar remarks.

We haven't announced our "Hawkes" yet, but rest assured that they all had to go through a fairly extensive audition, reading stuff from the game in multiple moods. Getting a main PC actor with enough range to cover the wide ranging situations they come across is a definite challenge, but really pays off when done right.

So far, I'm very happy with how both genders sound. Lots of range, good use of humor, and more than enough force when needed. If they weren't sounding good, we'd have replaced them already.

"all"??  as in more than one choice for a Hawke voice?

You can lie using questions exclusively. You are using definitions that are too narrow to encompass language again. I'm sure you're going to say that a lying is asserting a false statement (or possibly a statement you think is false as true). But you can use questions exclusively to convince a person that a statement you know is false is true, by leading them to form inferences.

For example, the wheel option might say "Then what happened?", only to produce Shepard saying "I bet that didn't make him happy."  Those are entirely dissimilar remarks.

Yeah, I remember similar moments. All of it comes back to anchoring a line to what Shepard is saying and making the NPC drive the conversation. It's IMO because the writers probably write the NPC lines before Shepard versus the other way around.

We all learned how basic sentences work when we were seven years old.  Those rules haven't changed.

Yes.  If you think you can do that with a question, I await a demonstration.

But you can use questions exclusively to convince a person that a statement you know is false is true, by leading them to form inferences.

Yes, but that's not lying.  If I make a series of true statements, and from those true statements you draw a false conclusion, that's not me lying to you.  That's you making a mistake.

But worse, if I ask a series of questions, and you draw from that any conclusion at all (beyond perhaps suspecting that I want to know how you'll respond to that question, but that's arguably true with all sentences), that's guaranteed to be you making a mistake, regardless of what your conclusion is.

This is a concern I've been thinking about. That's one good thing about voiceless RPGs ... you can imangine whatever inflection or accent or dialect your protaganist speaks.

Now when you get a game with one voice you pray it fits. Was extremely difficult in ME for me to play any other Shepard that wasn't the default one (I started and beat the game with him). I do hope they get someone with a gravelly voice ... or some smooth talker with a slight accent. /melts

Damn, now I'm wondering if Hawke's voice is supposed to be going for the whole gruff soldier type like Mass Effect tried to go for.

I honestly felt the female Shepard voice was just ... ugh ... not good enough.  Seemed to fake when she tried to sound tough.  And though there are those who didn't, I really enjoyed the male Shepard's voice ... /purr

Thank you!  I had that same problem with Female Shepard's voice, but I don't I've ever seen anyone agree with me about it before.

[vaguely on-topic stuff]I'm still bothered by the idea of "my" Hawke sounding British.  It'll seem really strange to me, as I generally don't play characters with accents, since I don't do them well.[/vaguely on-topic stuff]

That's why I liked her.  She didn't sound tough.  She sounded matter-of-fact.  That's often what I want from my PC.

Indeed, FemShep's voice was just totally awesome. The MaleShep voice was totally horrible in ME1, I never bothered with it in ME2, I assume it was better simply because it'd 'have' to be. I agree that Jennifer Hale would make an excellent Jennifer Hawke :) . Also, the lady who did Queen Anora might be a really good choice too, she was excellent. Of course my favorite voices were Leliana and Sigrun, but neither of them exactly sounded English, so probably not great chances for them. Hopefully they'll at least be in the game some way, and the bigger the character the better :) . So yeah, Hale or the Anora-girl would be my top two choices of those that seem to be eligible.
